High level excel macros aren't exactly simple, but its an area you can touch on to get a skillset in and it does show that you're at least interested in improving yourself.
Basic programming in something like Java or Python, any of the C's are always useful. SQL is also another in-demand one.

Don't get eurotrash for a DD. Parts and maintenance are costly and harder to get. Look at a Mazda3 or Ford Focus maybe (make sure if you get a focus you get manual, their auto boxs are godawful).
