Buying a 95 GT w/ a 4.6 engine swap, I'm getting it pretty cheap, pic kind of related. Learned manual years ago and drive it occasionally when DD'ing, never had one for daily use.
How can I expect the ride to behave when shifting, how to I whip the most out of it?

Is it a 96-98 4.6 2v, or 99-04? They have different heads/cams. And a pretty big difference in power
Why would you buy a car that someone swapped out the 5.0 for a 4.6? Unless it's a 4v, otherwise it makes no sense.
Expect an uglier fatter fox with a 90's GM tier plastic interior

I'm not sure which it is, but I'm assuming it's the 4v because it only has 90k miles and like you said, the 2v wouldn't make any sense.
As to why I would buy it is because I'm getting it at half the price of the other stangs in my area, leaving budget for aftermarket.

Yeah but it's still a 4.6 it's a shit modular motor mang.

mang its a 21 year old car my buddy fixed up and offered for cheap, I know it's nothing to write home about Im just trying to not fuck up it up any more than I have to

I wouldn't just assume that its gonna be a DOHC/4v. Its probably a 2v, just hope it has the PI heads and cams.
Anyways, definitely a plus to it being a 5 speed. You should get rid of stock cats/mufflers, maybe get a CAI, and then 3.73 or 4.10 rear end gear. A tune is recommended also. Best way to crack over 300HP in these is nitrous.
Eventually to make any more than 450 you'd need a forged crank, rods, and pistons. Then forced induction becomes an a decent high power option, but all that could cost over 10 grand, in a car thats barely worth 4 or 5.

4V Modulars are completely different animals than the 2V.
2V runs out of breath by 5000-5500rpm, the 4V pulls strong to 7000rpm. Not to mention having 45-60hp more than the 2V depending on which one you get.
Hell, even the Lincoln version has 10hp more at the very least.

> wouldn't just assume that its gonna be a DOHC/4v. Its probably a 2v
This, if it's cheap it's more than likely a 2V.
Very grateful for the aftermarket tips guys, but how do I drive it
>>15953538
If it's a 2V, shift at 5500rpm, if it's a 4V shift at redline.

Every gear? Thanks anon.
We're running out soon to check if its 2v or 4v how do we find out when we pop the hood
>>15953563
2V has thin cam covers like this.
>>15953591
And the 4V has much wider cam covers, like this. *note: the '96-'98 Cobra uses a different intake manifold, and the people do sway in DOHC 4.6s out of Lincoln Mark VIIIs which wont have the hand built stamping on the passenger side valve cover
Also,
>Every gear?
Yes, there's no reason to rev the 2V any higher than 5500rpm, the power peak on stock cams is around 5200rpm IIRC.

thanks a lot man

No problem, good luck.
