Why does /o/ hate CVT? It's the perfect dd transmission. Is it because it is computer controlled? You can't show off your stick shifting skills to your fellow high school drop outs? I just did some work to mine and it was the easiest thing ever.

I would guess its fragile components and the lack of response
they are no good in the more aggro city's
>>15915711
It is boring beyond belief.
>>15915711
And you can't just "work on" a CVT. If something breaks, you have to replace the whole thing. That's gonna cost $1,500-$5,000 depending on make and model for even if it's only a bad solenoid.
1/10 made me reply but no (You) for you.
To newshits: CVTs (Continously Variable Transmissions) have a track record of:
>short lifetimes
>inability to handle power
>fucking terrible driving experience
>being expensive to "maintain".
There is literally no advantage to using a CVT ever.
>>15915886
Not a CVT dick rider but from a 3rd generation mechanic that has no bias (I've owned all sorts of cars and trucks)
>short lifetimes
With proper maintenance, they will easily last 180-200K miles without a hiccup, which is about what cars these days are built to last. Got to keep renewing those leases. Cars are more like laptops these days than mechanical marvels.
>inability to handle power
If they weren't able to handle power, you wouldn't be moving. Just because a CVT isn't made for muh V8 and horsepower doesn't mean it isn't an economical option for people who aren't losers that speed on public roads
>fucking terrible driving experience
For an average person, it's a great driving experience.
>being expensive to "maintain".
Only expensive when you won't maintain it, because it has to be completely replaced if one thing goes wrong.
A CVT prius will still out-accelerate your corolla
>>15916077
>not speeding when there's no traffic and no bandits waiting to steal your money aka cops
it's just a number on a sign
might makes right. absence of might, you remake the right.
>>15916127
It's no secret that /o/ is full of people who can't drive, and should stay off the road. Everyday you get threads like pic related because muh vroom vroom on empty road.
>>15916077
>proper maintenance
Lots of CVTs and transmissions in general are sealed for life.
>>15915711
Boring and shears the belt when given sudden throttle.
>>15916299
All you have to do is change the fluid. This isn't 2006. CVTs are better built today than 10 years ago when the steel belt links weren't worth a hoot.
