How come Mercedes doesn't make reliable vehicles anymore? They used to make W115 which lasted for millions of miles. Nowadays modern Mercedes plastic turds suffer catastrophic mechanical failures at 50k miles. What went wrong?

I see this is a scientific thread.

Hi Scotty, have you ever noticed that you look a lot like Hillary Clinton?

highly improbable. youre thinking of land rover. benzes are mechanically sound, their electronics are fucking dookie though, those will fail at 50k miles believe me

They lost the war, it was a steady decline from that point onward.

I always bring up blackberry as an analogy. Why BlackBerry is dead?

Their phone lasted years on end.

Downsizing and cucked pollution-related laws put an end to the era of forever-lasting low RPM diesel engines.

Mercedes were only unreliable from 95 to around 08 or 09. They were good cars before and they're good cars now.

Lexus.

Before Lexus, Mercedes Benz would design a car of a certain size to be the best it possibly could be, and then figure out how much to charge to remain profitable.

Lexus decided to build a car for a certain price based on consumer demographics, and make it the best it could be and still be profitable selling it at that determined price. Their flagship ls400 does last a long time, but still isn't nearly on par with the diesel benzes and even the best gasoline benz of that time.

Benz then needed to do something very ungerman, build a car to a price point, cut corners etc.

Benz used to build a car that would mechanically function forever. Lexus figured out that if they made a car perfect for the first and second owner, they could appear to be better than benz.
