Thinking about getting this for my first truck, only thing worrying me is the high miles, but i hear the 4.6l is a very well built engine. whqt do you think /O/?

its in rough shape, but not a terrible deal for a work truck. I would talk him down a bit on price. Also has the manual BW 4406 t case, they are pretty stout. a lot of explorer people like to swap those into their awd expos.
That thing is a toilet, save up a little more and buy something nicer.

also 214k isn't terrible for a 4.6L if it has been maintained properly.

would you say a grand is a fair price for this then? guy says he changed oil every 3000-3500 miles, said it want burning oil or burning fluid. how long would one expect this engine to last before it shots the bed?
>>15854610
I just want something cheap to pull my boat around and make it through the winter. would rather keep money aside to move out.

i meant not leaking fluid
Arn't miles suppose to be helpful?
Not bad for a 4x4
The rust is typical on this series of Ford's.
>All of them look like this here in the rust belt
If it was a 97 I'd say run away.
>I own a 97
I'd buy it for 1,200 depending on what else needs done. I'd expect to be doing upper / lower ball joints in the future if he hasn't already.
>>15854549
I'll sell you my 4.6 f150 supercrew 4x4 for $2500 with 122k I'm not to far from you
>>15854612
4.6l tritons last forever you always see livery town cars with 400-500k on it
talked the guy down to 1000 gonna take a look at it tomorrow and see if he will go a bit lower as well.
>>15856282
214k miles on it.
>>15856335
out of curiosity what's wrong with the 97 in specific? Also are ball joints relatively easy to replace myself? (have only done basic maintenance)

don't have enough money right now
used car newfag here: are either of these worth looking into?

I've got a 96 and I haven't had any problems and mines got 375,000 miles
>>15854549
IF the exhaust is factory it's getting ready to fall off. If it has been maintained it should be a good vehicle.
>>15854549
FWIW: the landscaping company I used to work for had that exact truck, except a long bed.
It had 419k miles when I quit, and we were fucking hard on that thing. Towed a 16 foot v-nose trailer with two zero turns, push mower, a few blowers and hand tools every day.
Didn't really do much other than change the oil and brakes, nothing outside of regular maintenance.
>>15854655
That's a really tall camper it has in its bed.
I have a 99 5.4.
I have put over 30k miles, and it's at 160k miles now.
It wasn't maintained, and I have spent just about into it as for what I got it for
>cv axles, ball joints, E brake, spark plugs, leaks oil, rotors, U joint,
But hey, it's been through a lot of shit.
My 4x4 don't work anymore either. I figure it's a hose or something.
It is honestly a pain in my fucking ass, and I look forward to the day I am rid of it and don't have to buy a 3rd or 4th hand vehicle.
Hey though, I just drove across country with it... I would say without any problems, but it started misfiring, and cost me $550 to fix since I didn't have the special tools.
