>have brand-new Ram 1500 (5.7 hemi V8)
>engine sputters and shuts off immediately after starting unless I rev it a couple of times

What gives?
>>

Efi lol
>>
>>15824016
Chances are it's still under factory warranty. Take it to the dealer.
>>
>>15824016
Clogged EFI system. Car has probably sat on dealer lot with ethanol fuel in it, without fuel stabiliser. Go back to your dealer, and have them fix it if it really is brand-new.
>>
>>15824022
Gas doesn't degrade like that while its sitting in an EFI. The gas in the tank is likely shit though and that'll really kill it
>>
>>15824017
>>15824018
>>15824022
And this EFI thing, is it just a matter of rinsing it out somehow?

It's definitely under warranty, but I just hope I don't have to leave it at the shop too long.
>>
>>15824022
>>15824036
The Ram has an LPG system, would LPG degrade an EFI that quickly?
>>
>>15824040
Does it run solely on LPG? Modern gas degrades exceptionally fast from ethanol but efi can keep it under pressure to prevent it from varnishing. Never heard of LPG degrading.
>>
>>15824043
The car definitely wasn't on LPG when standing in the sales lot, it was converted when I bought it.

It runs on normal gasoline during start up and the first couple of miles, and transfers to LPG automatically after a few minutes when it's hot.

I ran the first couple thousand kilometers on gasoline as a break-in.

Btw, it starts up and goes right into a normal idle when the motor's already hot (and thus running on LPG immediately). The issue only occurs during cold start-ups.
>>
>>15824051
Pretty sure that conversion is your problem. The ecu during starting wants the engine to warm up quick but it needs to burn rich (increasing cooling efficiency) to keep a cold engine running.
Take that shit to the dealership and have them unfuck your truck
>>
>>15824036
If the tank has sat, the junk in the tank will clog the EFI system once you start it.

>>15824038
You have very little idea of what you're doing. Bring it to then shop under warranty, and demand a replacement truck in the meantime.

>>15824040
>>15824051
Where are you from?

Sounds like he regular gasoline system isn't functioning properly - it might be the gas itself, or it might be a badly adjusted system. I highly doubt that's a factory issue, so the retrofitted LPG system may be to blame there, or at least the ECU changes made to install said system.
>>
>>15824059
>You have very little idea of what you're doing.
I wasn't implying that I was going to do this myself.

>Where are you from?
Belgium.
I only ever used our version of premium, and I only fill up the gasoline tank halfway so the same gasoline doesn't sit too long while I'm using LPG.

>Sounds like he regular gasoline system isn't functioning properly - it might be the gas itself, or it might be a badly adjusted system. I highly doubt that's a factory issue, so the retrofitted LPG system may be to blame there, or at least the ECU changes made to install said system.
My first thought was simply that the idle was set too low or something.
>>
>>15824064
Ecu sets the idle and the only job an ecu has is to keep the engine running so the dealership fucked something on that truck
>>
>>15824071
So in any case it's their shit to deal with, and so far I gathered it could be a clogged EFI, or a mistuned ECU.

This at least gives me some ammo walking into the dealership, thanks bruv.

One curious thing that also happens: when I hear the motor sputtering like that, I push the accelerator eeeeeeeever so slightly, but the revs always go right up to the 3000 range.
This only happens the very first time I nudge the accelerator after every cold start, the motor revs up normally after that.
>>
>>15824064
Flemish or Walloon?

You can't directly set the idle you can with a carb, the ECU is just chasing desired air:fuel ratios using the sensors. At idle, it wants to inject it just do that it warms up quickly. Usually, that's not a problem. Something is wrong with either the sensors (not likely on a new truck), injection system (clogged due to fuel, again, not likely), or ECU - which I'd guess is happening here. To convert to LPG, you usually have to modify the ECU, which can result in problems like this. What brand is the LPG installation?
>>
>>15824084
Flemish.

>To convert to LPG, you usually have to modify the ECU
This dealership does a lot of LPG conversions, this shouldn't be a problem for them.
I brought it up once, but I guess I'm going to have to put my foot down or it's never going to get fixed.

>What brand is the LPG installation?
Prins 2.0.
>>
>>15824099
>Prins
I thought the dealership might have cobbled something together here, which certsinly isn't the case. Having driven several Prins-equipped Ram 1500's, I know their software is good and it shouldn't do this, which means it's either an installatie problem (dealer's fault) or a hardware problem, again injection system or less likely the sensors. Put your foot down, and tell the dealership to get to work.
>>
>>15824145
>Installatie problem
Installation problem. Damn you, Dutch autocorrect.
>>
>>15824145
I will, paid good money for this vee-hickle.

Any tips or experiences you'd like to share with Prins or Rams?
>>
I want to say it's having a fuel related issue
>>
>>15824165
Prins systems is the best on the market here in the Benelux - might be in the entire world.

Rams are pretty much great in Europe if you can take advantage of the tax benefits. Sure, they're oversized, but here in the Netherlands, they're about as expensive as a BMW 318 if you get your shit right. The only gripe I have is parts availability (and the cost associated with that): sure, I can get a mirror from some US cars specialist, but it'll be more than double the price than it is in the US. Customs tax is only 20% iirc, so that's a huge dealer markup. Other than that, great vehicles.
>>
If it's a piggyback to make the LPG work it might be fighting with the normal ECU and disabling the 'choke'.
>>
>>15824308
iirc the Ram I bought was the same dollar amount in Euros, so the markup for the car itself is very low.
Too bad about the parts markup, but it shouldn't bother me too much since I'm not into the whole aftermarket thing.
>>
>>15824340
>it shouldn't bother me too much since I'm not into the whole aftermarket thing.
I'm not talking about aftermarket, I'm talking about maintenance and replacement parts. Scratched the mirror on a mate's Ram, which costs 250 (?) dollars in the US - and 550 euros at the local stealership.
