i want to buy a new shitbox with 150k miles for 1800 dollars
everything in the engine compartment looks good but its a manual and and im worried the clutch might be worn and need replacing soon
On this car thats a $1000 dollar job which is more than half of the cars value
So my question: Is there any way to check a clutch to see how worn it is and if it may need to be replaced soon? or in buying used manual tranny cars is it just a blind hit or miss?
> disengage clutch
> engage clutch
> is it okay?

Unless you have the service record of the clutch being replaced very recently then short of going most of the length of replacing it anyway there's no way to tell if it has 90% of its life left or 10% of its life left. You have to judge the SELLER.

>start car
>let out clutch slowly
>where does it bite
>intentionally stall car
>does it stall hard or does it slip a lot
boom answers.

>Go to hill
>Put in 4th or higher gear
If clutch slips it'll be noticeable by the engine picking up rpm, if it didn't then the clutch is guud

If it sounds like this between gear changes, the clutch is fucked.

Well, if it's not slipping, IT'S NOT FUCKING WORN YET!

All depends on the feel, have you ever driven on a bad clutch before?

I did some of the tests there like letting go of the clutch abruptly and it stalls immediately on 4th gear with handbreak on
However when i did a test one anon posted about when using the handbreak and letting go of the clutch slowly on 3rd gear i can hear the clutch slipping for a sec before stalling
what does this mean?
