So guys, this happened to me today... I usually fix things on my own on my cars but ive never had to work on anything wheel related, im kinda lost.
Can anyone kinda assess what im dealing with here, this bracket broke when i went into reverse in my driveway and i heard a drop, took the tire off so you can see it better

Thats some serious neglect m8

that shock is destroyed. You need a new shock.

Only had the car for 2 weeks, its a project
Anon it's definitely the shock. Replace the shock with a nee shock and come back to us with a picture of the replaced shock.

Sweet mother of Jesus.
replace the shock, pop the shaft back in, clean and regrease that joint, then slap yourself for letting it get to that.

Yea the shock comoletely moves freely lol

Replace that lower balljoint too.
Shocks aren't a structural component. A strut is.
That is most definitely a strut, not a shock. It provides damping like a shock and also provides a function similar to a upper ball joint. Never seen one fail like that before. That's new. It looks like you also need a CV axle and lower ball joint. You wanted a project, you got a project.
Thankyou for all the answers, im probably gonna just get some used parts from a car yard until i eventually replace with newer parts. So in all how many things am i supoosed to replace, im probably going to do this on the other wheel end too.
You will need to replace #1 and #2 with either a working used set (preferred), new from an online supplier or worst case- stealership.
#1 is your strut. Looking at your photo...you MAY be able to salvage that if you can get it free of its housing to the carrier and thoroughly clean all the corrosion off it it.
#2 is the carrier. The carrier is absolutely shot and must be replaced. You may be able to save the wheel bearing and hub that is pressed into it, but if you find a used one that is complete with the hub, wheel bearing, caliper and rotor, just by the whole damn thing and be done with it...because, you will have to pay the labor to a shop to pull then press in the hub into your spare, so it may just be cost effective to buy the carrier as complete as possible.
If you see anything else fucked up while in there (wheel well) fix it then and don't be a lazy/broke fag. Just suck it up and do it. Good luck, mang.

# 2 isn't necessary to replace and the hub bolts to the bracket on the bottom of the strut.
You pic is a different setup.

Thanks bro i really appreciate it
You dont see them fail very often.
In fact, in 15 years of wrenching ive never seen it.
you'll also need to replace the inner CV boot because it ripped apart. And replace the outer one while you're at it since the shock is now sitting on it it's probably torn.
