/lit/ poster here, first time on /o/ (you guys must get this shit all the time)
Im currently driving a passed-down 2007 charger, and im sick of the goddamn thing. One thing or another is always wrong with it (brother crashed DWI it years ago; was fixed but never the same), filling it up with gas is a bitch, and besides that it's just not the car for me.
The most appealing car to me right now is the Geo Metro. I like everything I've read about it, and for whatever reason I just love the way it looks.
>TL;DR Should I buy a Geo Metro? Have I been memed? Is it a good car to buy for a non-car person looking to learn?

great starting car my dude, could also look at 1st gen crx si, ef civic, honda insight as they are similar in the small as compact car with great mpgs type of way (and they will have better driving feels than the metro)
With their age, I wouldn't recommend one just because it will nickel-and-dime you to death unless you're willing to DIY repairs for dumb little shit. Also, rust. That being said, if you can find a good one (read the sticky for how to inspect a used car) it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

I'm willing. I've also heard a great deal about how it's easy to repair and how replacement parts are cheap. Not sure how much credence to give that kind of thing though, being a novice at best

I will check those out, thank you my man
They're great little cars, but you may want to just take a weekend, rip out the interior, and cover everything in dynamat insulation to help with noise, then reinstall the interior. small cars built cheaply don't have much in the way of noise insulation.

It's why we have the sticky. You'll note the Geo Metro is actually on our sticky.

Then you're fine. I'l try to dig around for the /o/ approved tool list, but basically get some metric and imperial sockets, a few different flathead/phyllips screwdrivers of different lengths, some vicegrips, and you'll be able to work on most things on the car. At some point a floor jack and jackstands are also a good investment.

Where do you think I saw it initally?

Also, sweet spot is $2500.
All the metros in your area are trash. If you are willing to drive to Rockport, this would be good: http://corpuschristi.craigslist.org/cto/5745248625.html

mmmmmm 230 horsepower luxury sport.
i'm a stout believer in japanese pre 2000s cars, most of them today are extremely well built as long as they've been properly treated like a regular car, and most of the time will be very, very difficult to break.
