>tfw you will never live in japan, have a decent job, spend your weekends cruising to daikoku in an r32
why live
>>
you could do it. work hard
>>
>>15708425
Getting a job as a gaijin is nearly impossible unless you fluently speak japanese and have some sort of connection
>>
>>15708442
learn it. it's fun
>>
>>15708442
you deserve to fail, you're a waste of resources.
>>
>>15708519
I've been taking lessons, but really lessons will only get you to a kindergarten level if you aren't speaking it on a regular basis.
>>

>tfw that is literally my life
>>
sounds boring as hell
>>
>>15708571
I had a feeling SCBro was gonna post in this thread
>>
>>15708577
It can be, Daikoku isn't always crowded and lively

And after a while you start to see a lot of the same cars, it becomes more fun to drive there than actually be there
>>
I have way too many friends who've done the "work for a Japanese company" thing, and would never want to do it.

That said, I'd love to be the Japan correspondent for an English car magazine/blog. That seems like it'd be the best of both worlds.
>>
>>15708592
It's coming to an end senpai, I have to cherish it while I can
>>
>>15708623
nooooooooo you coming back to the states? What's gonna happen to the r32?
>>
>>15708632
The R32 is coming with me, the RX7 is chilling here for a year and then coming to the states too.
>>
>>15708659
The air force shipping them for you or do you have to pay for shipment?
>>
>>15708670
They're shipping the 32, I'm shipping the 7 privately unless I can attach it to a friend who leaves in early 2018.
>>
>>15708680
You're friend gonna just watch it until then? You avoiding shipping it cuz of the 25 year bullshit?
>>
>>15708695
Yes and yes, it's a 3/93 car.

Also I'll be retired so I can just catch a hop over here any time fo free. Which will help when me and my friend start importing and selling cars.
>>
>>15708726
>retired
shit you've been in for 20 years?
>>
>>15708680
Nice, it'll be cool cruising around in the 32 in the US, though RHD here sucks. A friend recently got a 32 GT-R and he's been having a ton of fun with it, he even drove it up to Monterey last week and they gave him paddock parking next to all the classic Ferraris.
>>
>>15708755
Nope, 7

Got a fucked up ankle, so they're permanently retiring me.
>>

>>

>>
>>15708984
I could, but that'll never happen
>>
>>15708996
Lol. A clean, stock R32 is already 25k+. Depreciation has bottomed out.
>>
>>15708413
Why do you wanna live in a country who's streets and highways are cramped as hell?

I'm saying I wouldn't sell it for that low. I wouldn't sell it for $30K

I've had it for over 2.5 years now and bought it stock, I love it too much to let it go for market.

It's going to cost you around $4,000 to get your Corvette up to Japanese standards. So if you want to try that, go for it. If not, either leave it with someone you trust or sell it. Do not fucking use the military storage system for your car.

Look to spend around $17,000 for a decent one.

Hit up 'Japan Bases Used Car Review' on Facebook, he's by Yokosuka but will ship to Okinawa (mainland cars are generally less rusted out anyway). I bought mine from him, and visited again a few days ago. He's got some damn nice cars there right now, with the newest one being this MNP V-Spec BCNR33 that makes my dick hard.
>>
>>15711192
Is finding an NSX a possibility? Trade my vette and some cash for it
>>
>>15711159

I never said that I didn't import anything when I came home.

I brought a Te27 back with me that got destroyed by a teen on her phone running a red light completely ripping the rear off the vehicle.
>>
>>15711222
It is, but they're insanely priced. Some older guy here at Yokota bought one for around $50,000. Idk why it was that high.

I'd plan on at least $35,000 for one though.

I'm not too sure how easily you'd be able to sell your Corvette to a Japanese person desu. You could try it but honestly I think you're better off just selling it before you leave the States.
>>

Try all the food. You'll learn that you like a lot of things. Travel to the mainland and see all that you can.

>Marine in Okinawa
Keep your fellow Marines in line. They have singlehandedly been fucking up the US military's reputation over here, but I'm sure you already knew that.
>>
If I join the airforce can I go to japan?

scbro where u at
>>
>>15711401
No.

If you join the Air Force you go where the Air Force tells you to go, sometimes that means Japan
>>
>>15711431
dont you get choices tho?

thats what ive been told.

You get a bunch of places you can choose from but you can only pick 3 and out of those 3, the air force picks one of the one you go to
>>
>>15711358
Yeah we can be garbage, though I think the last incident was the Navy. Will do, thanks anon
>>
>>15711401
>>15711431
>>15711448
You go where they need you. Marines is a but easier because we don't have alot if choices to be stationed. Alot of people don't want to go to Oki here so your practically guaranteed it if you put it on there, depending on your mos. But ultimately it's wherever your needed
>>
>>15711448
You have a "dream sheet" of 8 CONUS and 8 OCONUS bases of your preference.

The AF will look at it and if you're up for orders they will compare their needs to your list, sometimes you get an assignment you want and sometimes you don't.

>>15711454
Yeah the last one was Navy.

an R32 GT-R is like £10-15k if I wasn't a lazy faggot & had a job I could have owned one by now, as long as the insurance isn't stupidly high
>>
>>15711334
I just finished HS.

If I started studying Japanese now, would there be a way for me to make it into a foreign student program or something? Apperantly there are also programs for English taught lessons. That way, I could avoid getting ducked in the ads acedemicaly while I learn the language through social interaction.

My parents have my back for any monetary issues. (They're both lawyers)

Tbh I just want to leave this shitty country. It seems getting fucked up by the libtard government, political correctness and refugees.

I'm in Canada if that matters.

>>15711794

After I left highschool, I went straight to Public Uni and started doing my Comp Science track along side studying Japanese. I took Jap I and Jap II in the first year and now I'm in my Sophmore year. I went to Private School and that helped with me completing most of my AA before even entering Uni.

After a year of Jap, I realized it was a hard language but I was doing fine with it and it was relatively fun. I took a trip to Nippon in the summer and I thought it was the greatest thing in the world.

The Uni offers a 5 week summer study abroad (Basically 1 summer semester) to Japan for students who have taken Jap II or higher (up to Jap VI and there's Jap for Business). Also, I am in the Honors College and they offer a Summer study abroad to Jap, but for non Jap speakers/studies.

If you start now, you can get the hang of it more quickly, especially if you are bi/tri-lingual. I know Spanish ontop of English and that helped with my pronunciation, they said I have one of the best.

Just work hard and stay on track and you'll be able to do fine.

日本語は楽しい、 でも、 毎日勉強して。
>>
>>15711794
>>15711854

Also, they have this program called the Jet Program, where you basically go help a professor teach English in Japan for a year. It's a program that is much harder to get into but it's possible with hard work and dedication.

I would suggest taking a trip like I did after my first year at Uni to experience Japan first before deciding what to do next. I plan to take both study abroads, but I don't wanna teach English in Nippon, not my thing. They do pay you for that and include housing (I believe).

Also, Canada, sucks meng.... it's basically turning into Cucked Europe from what I hear and see.

That I have no idea about. I started off learning Japanese for the fuck of it, even though I had my language requirement fulfilled from Highschool. But then I realized the minor, or at least certificate, would be easy to achieve, since the study abroads would fulfill many credit requirements.

What I do know is that if you don't have a degree, forget about even applying to anywhere outside of 711. If you don't know fluent Japanese, I would assume you're automatically shunned from anything.

The Japanese are very 'racist' when it comes to foreigners. They are xenophobic and to an extent prefer their own people over foreigners. But I'm not the one to talk to about that, I just like the culture and country. They are very conservative and heavily based off of traditions and the such; Male dominated society and so on.

I just hope that I can use my Japanese with my future job to maybe land myself with a Software Company that is connected with Japan. If not, I just wanna go visit a lot and maybe have some sort of house over there for vacations. A man can dream.

Wages are also, on average, much less than over here. But, everything over there is also relatively cheaper besides some obvious expenses. Fucking gas over there was 90-110 yen a LITER. That's about $4-5 a gallon

The price of the z06 corvette is about 75 000 dollars while the gtr nismo is around 150 000 but the speed difference between the 2 is minuscule. For a American exploding car based on old technology to be 2 seconds slower then the "pinnacle of car technology" gtr shows that gtr is incapable of competing
And with the current picture you have posted and proven again the gtr is a waste of money because the camaro is even cheaper the the corvette while being the pig fat car it is

>tfw I pay $2.30 a gallon at most.

Jeez that must suck.
In Japan, most of the cars I saw during the day were Hybrids such as Toyota Priuses and Aquas (a reskin of the Prius basically from what it looked like.) Acassionally I'd see a nice スポーツカー drive by and rev their engines (pic related) but that's it. But during the night times you could sometimes hear glorious RX7s and Silvias roam the Wangan. I also had a friend of mine who went on the trip with us pay someone he knew in Japan to take him down the Touge for a night.

Anyways, the Minor is mostly the Languages up to like level 6 (22 credits) and another 12 credits in composition and electives. Not difficult if you take the study abroads and do the language coarses.
The Major is 36 credits in total, just 2 more than the minor, but you basically have to focus your studies on Japan. Which I don't personally recommend unless you want to Dual Major. You said both your parents are lawyers so I'm assuming money is no problem to an extent. To make it cheap, do it in a close Uni and get scholorships everywhere.

If I play my cards right, I can get the minor, my CS major, my Masters, and all my Study Abroads payed for by scholorships. Being in as many honors programs helps. A little bit of extra achievement goes a long way, even if it's just a title.

I have a job on campus that pays me non-taxed income (because it's considered a government/university job). I tutor other students that are taking the computer science major.

Literally just put some effort into your studies and don't be a total autist and you will be guaranteed to not be homeless.

Honestly, I have no idea.
I think it has to do more with being fluent in the language than having the minor. I would assume the minor, major, or certificate is like proof of knowing the language.

I don't even know if they would outright hire you to a decent position just for being a foreigner. I'm only 19 and barely know much about their businesses and requirements. I think you would most likely need connections to be able to get a good job, after already knowing the language.

Like I said, go there first, learn the language, and do YOUR major first. I have a bad hunch about anyone who outright studies Japanese only to try and get a job there. The only jobs I think that have a higher chance of hiring you are English teachers in Japan, and I have no experience with that. But before I mentioned the Jet program, which leads me to believe that it would make it easier to obtain.

I assume the millenials in Japan have more leniency with foreigners, because they always seem happier and less hostile when interacting with foreigners. But what do I know, they are the nicest country I've even visited.

You'll probably have better luck saving up a boat load of money and going for a long vacation. I don't know if you can rent an apartment, but if you could I'd say that's ideal. If not, hotels are decently priced, and public transportation is relatively cheap. I heard you can pre purchase train passes for a whole month. The train systems are god like over there.

Honestly, I don't know. When I went it was more of a tour/visit to get the feel of the country and just explore with a guide. I did not see many foreigners working except for in some alleys where people shopped, there were many blacks (there were so many in that area) doing advertising in front of the shops.

If you look it up I'm sure there is something, even if just a cashier job, that you can find that is available to foreigners. I haven't done my research on professions and work that foreigners can do in Japan.

I'd focus on just saving up money first. I can give you estimates on how much shit cost me when I went if you'd like.

For flights, I'm not experienced with them but a round trip on regular pricing is about $2100 per person for coach. I'm sure you can get cheaper prices if you know the system or have someone who works at the airport.

In Japan, 711 is godlike and has everything you'll need for day to day uses. i.e. water, microwavable foods, hentai, car mags, snacks, liquor, and general shit. A 2 liter bottle of water was like 92 yen. Amazing.

Train passes are a must, if you can find out how to get one for the major city you'll be living in, do it. It's relatively fast and easy to navigate. Most transportation is in english as well as Japanese.

For Breakfast, if you are staying at the hotels, most give breakfast passes to buffets they offer every morning. It is pretty good but you can always eat out. Lunch and dinner will cost anywhere from $8-20 per person at a normal place. It is pretty cheap and filling. Obviously some are much more expensive because of popularity and the prices of meats.

The summer is the rainy season so you should get an umbrella, but even the rain was nice and polite. It barely ever poured, it mostly drizzled. Winter is snowy but I never went during that time so I have no idea.
Gas is about $4 a gallon, so walking, trains, and biking is necessary. Taxis aren't expensive but I'd prefer the trains.

Almost everything is close enough to one another in places like Tokyo that a 10 minute walk from your hotel can get you anywhere. (That is a necessity I mean.) The trains will get you anywhere else. There are stops everywhere.

Cont.

Hotels can range from $80 a night to almost $200 a night but it all depends on location.
I stayed in a 5 star resort in Hiroshima for $80 a night, but it was far off from everything else and you needed some sort of shuttle or taxi to take you to the city. In Tokyo I stayed in the Pearl Hotel Kayabacho, which was a 10 min walk away from Akiba, if you're a weeb. And it was right next to a train station and many corner stores like 711. That was about $100 a night or $150 if you want to fit a friend in a room meant for 1 person

Everything in Japan is smaller than in America in terms of height. I almost hit my head on some door panels and I'm only 6 '

If you are interested in JDM car parts, they are cheap AF compared to over here. Just buy a crap ton of parts and ship em over for like $100 (just a wild guess). Some $120 set of lug nuts over here cost about $40 over there.

Everyone is very nice and respectful. No one said anything rude or even looked at me funny. They always keep to themselves and go on with their lives.

Bars and Karaoke bars are very popular for afternoon/after work sessions, and relatively priced. I think they were about $30 an hour for a room. Beer is around the same price as here but it tastes pretty good.

There's this store that is basically the dollar store equivalent. Anything without a price costs 100 yen. It's called Daiso. Go there and you'll find many essentials for cheap.

I've said mostly the general stuff. Ask me for something else if I left it out.

So money wise:
$2500 for a flight and anything that you'll need to do at the airport, probably an extra luggage if you decide to bring back extras.
About $1000 a week for hotels, probably less if you find a nice place.
$400 a week at the most on food if you stay to regular restaurants. But I'd say $500 because you'd want to treat yourself.
The rest is transportation and souvenir fees which can all be cut or increased.

>>
>>15712876

You can last a month with $6000 if you stay in cheap hotels, or even pod hotels which can cost less than $50 a night.
But I would save up a bit more if you plan on buying stuff over there to bring back.

Definitely do some more research but it won't be that bad.
Just make sure you know where you wanna go each day or so, so you don't waste any time or money and you can get better estimates.
A backpack or travel bag is also a good idea, to keep your bottles of water, passports, tickets, trash, etc.
They barely have trash cans anywhere even though it's the cleanest country I've seen, so you'll find yourself stuck with wrappers and bottles till the end of the day.

Most of their cash is also in coins. They have anywhere from 1 yen to 500 yen coins (1 cent to $5). So I suggest getting a coin purse or something to keep them together. Your pocket will get fat and uncomfortable if you try to keep it all together.

Also stay alert of the economy and how it fluctuates. Right now it's about 102 yen to a dollar. But before when I went, it was about 115 yen to a dollar, so I got better exchange rates. Taxes over there are 5% from what I remember.
>>
>>15711977

It's not that it's magical, it's just that weebs mark up everything with hype, media makes everything look perfect, and the way everything is built and structured over there that it looks like a fun house. No, America is doing just fucking fine. The economy has recovered. Our population is still projected to be neutral or to continue growing because we actually allow immigrants into the country. You can hate the mexicans but the immigrants are almost always the hardest working. Economic advancement is getting harder but if you are truly driven and smart you can make money in CS and EE where most of the growth is right now. I have never seen so much traffic in the Bay Area since the recession hit.

Japan is fucked. They're so /pol/ that they won't let foreigners in at a rate anywhere near what it would take to maintain their population and what foreigners exist are isolated because Japanese culture is obsessed with following every last unspoken custom and isolating those that don't fit in. Their corporate culture is killing people with salarymen working 12 hour days doing zero productive things. Freeters are kept from ever advancing to a better job and corporate sexism is still rampant beyond what happens in the US. They're so fucking afraid of taking risks that you never see startups and companies themselves are just beyond afraid of taking a risk on anything.

The US has real problems, but Japan has it worse. Korea and China have overtaken Japan economically.
>>
>>15713019

Oh, so Events and Festivals. If that is your main motive you can focus most of your expenses on food and transportation.
I don't know the difference in costs for everything in Summer vs Winter, but I would assume that in Summer there would be more tourists and events due to no snow and vacations. I do not know if that increases the prices of everything, but I would guess it would to hotels.

I would suggest looking up those prices on your own when you can. Changes in prices between seasons are harder to notice when you don't live there.

Also, JDM Garages are a must go. So many car parts, so little luggage room.

Do you really think that things will be better in Japan? You will be a foreigner in Japan no matter how much you learn the language and the customs. You will always be isolated. And god forbid you get remotely close to the justice system, they will fuck you hard with a show trial. The US justice system may need reform but if you have money you have a fair chance.

In most urban areas in the US nobody gives a flying fuck about you. Especially in a place like LA or NYC. If you wanted to repo a car you could do it in broad daylight at a mall and nobody would even look at you because nobody gives a fuck.

>>
Anyways, >>15714398, please listen to me. It's really related to this thread.
I went to Yoshinoya a while ago; you know, Yoshinoya?
Well anyways there was an insane number of people there, and I couldn't get in.
Then, I looked at the banner hanging from the ceiling, and it had "150 yen off" written on it.
Oh, the stupidity. Those idiots.
You, don't come to Yoshinoya just because it's 150 yen off, fool.
It's only 150 yen, 1-5-0 YEN for crying out loud.
There're even entire families here. Family of 4, all out for some Yoshinoya, huh? How fucking nice.
"Alright, daddy's gonna order the extra-large." God I can't bear to watch.
You people, I'll give you 150 yen if you get out of those seats.
Yoshinoya should be a bloody place.
That tense atmosphere, where two guys on opposite sides of the U-shaped table can start a fight at any time, the stab-or-be-stabbed
mentality, that's what's great about this place.
Women and children should screw off and stay home.
Anyways, I was about to start eating, and then the bastard beside me goes "extra-large, with extra sauce."
Who in the world orders extra sauce nowadays, you moron?
I want to ask him, "do you REALLY want to eat it with extra sauce?"
I want to interrogate him. I want to interrogate him for roughly an hour.
Are you sure you don't just want to try saying "extra sauce"?
Coming from a Yoshinoya veteran such as myself, the latest trend among us vets is this, extra green onion.
That's right, extra green onion. This is the vet's way of eating.
Extra green onion means more green onion than sauce. But on the other hand the price is a tad higher. This is the key.
And then, it's delicious. This is unbeatable.
However, if you order this then there is danger that you'll be marked by the employees from next time on; it's a double-edged sword.
I can't recommend it to amateurs.
What this all really means, though, is that you, >>15714398, should just stick with today's special.

If you want an experience of Japanese car culture, that you won't get anywhere else in the world, save up for a Drift Matsuri at Ebisu. It's seriously the most fun I've had in my almost three years here in Japan.

Very basic costs you'll have to plan for
>¥20,000 for two day drivers pass
>¥300,000-¥600,000 for a car (which you can get about %50 back if you sell the car back)
>¥700 per use of the nearest Onsen
>depends on you and how much you drive, but ¥30,000 for some tires
don't worry about a rental car, seriously all you have to do is walk up and meet any of the many Aussies, Kiwis, Irish, Bongs, Americans, etc. and hang out with us, we'll help a nigga in need out for rides to town or to the Onsen

fuck off, loser. I know people personally that have gone to Japan and worked there, earning a good enough living to enjoy themselves. Nevermind the countless stories of people doing it you can read on the internet.

This "I can't do it" attitude is cancer. Why the fuck can't you learn Japanese? The dumbest nip in nipland can speak the language, it's just a matter of effort seeking out the right methods and asking for help from the people that are out there.

As for getting a job and working there, if you have a degree in something marketable, and you speak Japanese fluently you can easily work for a company that has offices in Japan, and when they learn youre fluent in both languages you'll be put to work there. There's plenty of other ways to do it, you can just apply for a damn work visa and work a menial job for a while while hunting for something better based on your resume.

Fuck you, I hate that people have this shit attitude. If there's so many people out there that have done it, you can too.

A friend of mine managed to make the move a few years ago. She's fairly bright, but she isn't some super genius with "connections" like the naysayer said are needed, she just did pretty much exactly what this poster said.Hell, her degree isn't even super marketable, she majored in Japanese and minored in business.

>business

i suggest you check with airbnb and roomarama sites. I went to Japan in Nov 2013 and paid 13 days in a 40 sqm appartment with two rooms in Ochiai(Shinjuku) approx 500$ per person. Food is cheap if you eat at small shops which can be found all around, like 5 bucks per meal, also you can get cheap food at 711 which are all around. For drinks use the vending machines cause then you don't pay the sales tax which is 5 yen but hell, it's fun using their coins

they don't accept international licence, atleast they didn't few years ago. You have to go to their dmv and go into a simulator which most likely you won't fit in so if they see you have a licence for couple of years they will just give you a foreigners permit

I read somewhere they do now, I could be wrong though

They accept IDPs now, though they don't issue them. You have to get them in your country before going to Japan.

Also, if you are from one of the countries below, you can get your full Japanese license without having to do any tests other than an eye exam.

Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United Kingdom
