This is great. I hope the final design looks a bit less busy and more sleek but I guess crash regulations will mean it stays chubby. Loving the fact that Mazda are bringing the rotary back. They deserve to be successful in this.

The new engine is called the 16X, apparently it's been ready for a while but they've just finally decided to build a chassis for it.

It's similar to the 13B but displaces 1.6 liters because of a "longer" (more eccentric) stroke. This might help with emissions by reducing the intake/exhaust overlap.

In a patent they filed recently they also decided to design the engine to be mounted upside down, so the exhaust ports are close the the top and the intakes are below. This should help with some of the heat issues the FD has with its twin turbo setup.
