I'm looking to buy a used hatchback under 10k. Considering that budget, should I go with a gti, golf, or rabbit OR a focus OR mazda3?
Also, I'm in the USA.

The si transmissions are still one of the best to build off of.
Vw won't give you that rally quick response.
Mazda fail consistently in long run.

And ford only makes good f150s
The rest is shit

Sorry, I forgot I'm not looking to mod this vehicle out. Just a reliable daily driver.
What are the main differences between the golf and rabbit?
Shut up and buy a Civic

Auto transmission?
Get a Toyota if you're going automatic.
Celica. Camry. Corolla.
The rest don't make reliable transmissions in the automatic bracket

That's kawaii as fuck. But is it even available in the us market?

You can get a Cobb tuned speed3 for that money, which is the fastest by a fair amount.

Avoid the VW's. Notoriously unreliable.
Look into the Focus, Mazda 3 and 2002-2005 Honda Civic Si

The name and the engine. US market Rabbits got a 2.5L inline 5 cylinder was was specific to North American VW period. Beyond that, it's identical to the MK5 VW Golf.

Are the auto transmissions unreliable or are both auto and manual unreliable?
I suppose I could deal with a manual transmission if those are more reliable.
>>15661739
manual transmissions are always more reliable.
Also, the Civic Si we've been recommending was manual only.

This. Performance cars are a good illustration of this. Very often you will find that performance cars (particularly with FWD cars) are often manual only or the automatic variant is detuned. All of GM's cars with Oldsmobile's 2.3L High Output 4 cylinder were manual only. All of Honda's performance cars up til the latest NSX were manual only. The reasoning isn't that the manual makes the driving experience more pure (although it does), but because the automatics can rarely deal with the power the engine makes. Hell, the automatics on even base model Honda Civics are known for blowing.
And, to an extent, it extends to RWD cars as well on occasion. Example: The 5th generation Chevrolet Camaro
The automatic equipped V8 cars were detuned as compared with the manuals for much the same reasons, as well as the fact the automatic V8 cars had cylinder deactivation for fuel economy reasons.
