Is the 4G63 the best 4cyl ever made?

How many engines can handle the absurd specific outputs this thing can?

they're not that tough stock though. the block and head castings are the only parts left at the power levels you're thinking of. and even those get modified.

Yes

Mass-produced consumer 4 cyl? Yes.

There are plenty of homologation and racing-specific 4 cyl motors that trump it in outright capability though.

Let's just keep it to mass produced stuff.

Obviously nothing on the road will match the 1500hp 1.5L that BMW made

GM's Ecotec (pic related. 1400 HP)
Honda's K-series

Both the F20C and the 4G63T aren't all that strong as far as 4cyl turbos go unless with mods.
Sure people wind them up to make big numbers but they don't last long.
Saab B2x4 and Cosworth YB are better in that regard. Probably others I can't think of.

It's not a particularly good engine. Long stroke, rocker arms, balance shafts. None of these are good things performance wise. It's just well supported in the aftermarket because of the cars it's fitted to.

The FJ20 is superior for maximum effort applications imo.

There's plenty of 600+ WHP builds with everything stock except rods, pistons, cams, and valve springs.
