For the past week my Rav 4 2004 sometimes takes two-three times longer to start after turning the ignition. I'm pretty uneducated when it comes to cars but can i get an idea of whats wrong with it?

Can you be more specific?
There's a million possibilities.
Like when you turn the key all the way it takes longer than usual to start the car?
>>
Well it looks like you have ice cream in one of the cylinders, so start with cleaning that out.
>>
>>15631790
Exactly that, after turning it all the way it takes much longer than usual before the engine actually starts fully running.

How does your battery look? Is it slow to start? How long have you noticed the issue?
>>
>>15631837
Battery seems good as far as i can tell
>>
>>15631941
>Looks good

Have you bothered to actually have it tested other than just "looking" at it?
>>
>>15631960
I'm at work right now so i can't really test it. I just want to know if its a common and or easily fixable problem.
>>
>>15631975
Literally a million things dude.

Time since last oil change?

Is it carbureted or fuel injected?

Does it fire up better when warmed up?

Were not faggit apple store geniuses, you can't just hand us the problem, and say fix it! We need details. Come back and post in this thread when you have some information for us.

This guy knows how to diagnose a problem

Another idea: go for a 20-30 min highway drive to charge up the battery and see if it makes any difference the next time you start it up, could just be your battery has done its dash

>carbureted

No

does it have the same engine as Toyota Matrix and Toyota Corolla of the year? i know on those 4 banger engines the intake manifold gasket was an issue and we've done some of them at work that had trouble starting and it was the intake gasket

you can diagnose this by having someone spray brake cleaner on the intake near the gasket to the engine while you try and start it, if it starts better its most likely the gasket. but as said this could be a million things, very worn out spark plugs can cause it, dying fuel pump, plugged air filter, plugged fuel filter, etc. i would start by pulling a spark plug

lol the last carb Toyota engine was the 1989 22R pickup i think, he doesnt know how to diagnose if he thinks a 2004 Rav-4 has a carb
>>
Does it sound like it's cranking slower than usual? Like more time inbetween pulses/cranks. Take it to autozone/oreilly's/advance whatever and have them test the battery. They do it for free.
>>
If it's cranking the same speed as normal when trying to start and simply takes more time with no other apparent changes, it's most likely the fuel check valve. The way to check is to first turn the key all the way to the on position and listen for the fuel pump to cycle off. If you can't hear the pump, just count to three or something, and turn the key off. Then start the car normally. If it fires right up, it's that check valve. Add a few ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil to your gas tank each fillup for a few fillups. It should get the check valve to work again.

it sounds like your knock sensor went bad. Would recommend replacing it and changing your oil.
>>
>>15632068
nah I meant the guy who replied to your post, you're clearly clueless or else you wouldn't be here

spark plugs?
