I played assetto corsa a lot. I started studying how cars worked from a youtube guy called Engineering Explained. I really enjoyed his videos because they were very technical with some math that I like while also being very simple in their execution. I learned a lot of little things in between about my tire traction, scrub radius and suspension parts/calculations. I learned how turbos and transmissions worked from that channel too. Its just a plethora of information I really wish I didn't have a lot of debt right now or I'd actually invest in learning more by buying some good condition car out of the 90's just to play with and work on

My dad. He was known very well for being a good mechanic. Since at the time my mom and dad had split custody he'd take me a few times with him when he had to do work on cars. I always saw him as my role model until i found out the horrible truth of how much of a piece of shit he was. When he died when i was 8, i didn't really care. I promised myself I'd carry on his legacy of being the best mechanic in the neighborhood. I'm costanty doing work on my trucks and a lot people go to me to daignose and fix their cars, but when it comes to fixing them i always refuse because deep down I'm afraid to fall short of my dad. He could fix anything I'm afraid i won't be able to fix something so I'm scared to even try. Even though people ask me to perform work that I've done a hundred times before i decline in fear I'll mess up their vehicle and they will think im a bad mechanic. Fuck you dad why did you ruin my mechanical ambition.

Pic related is what i did a couple days back. I also did some work today that isnt really worth mentioning.

You don't even know what kinda shit he did m8. He would beat my brother (he was fucking like 10 years old maybe even younger) just because he belonged to a different father. He'd beat my mom which i didn't even know until recent. My brother fucking absolutely loathed me growing up because of my father. My mom still uses him as the largest insult possible. And my father would always just use me to spite my mom. For example whenever my mom wanted to take us out somewhere fun like say we were planning a trip to Disney land or some shit he'd demand custody of me and he'd just drop me off at my grandmas house and get drunk. Whilst my mom would be having a blast with the rest of the family. He'd then drop me off and force me to tell her that we had so much fun spending time together when I'd hardly even see him. He started a new family. I went to visit him at his new house with his mew family. (His daughter was due the same day) he told me to stay with my grandma, hed be right back he just wanted to visit his wife and the newborn baby. He NEVER came back. My grandma ended up putting me on a bus to back to my moms and they both disappeared out of my life forever. When i was 16 i got a phone call saying my father had passed. I didn't give a shit. He made me the ugly duckling in my family. Everytime any family speaks to my mom i always over hear them ask her if she isn't afraid I'll end up just like my father. Would you not hate someone that has caused your own family that you've known your whole life technically hate you? If you say you wouldn't hate him too then YOU'RE the edgy one

>>
>>15629180
That was just a few things he did. He was a very bad person. Too many examples to list really. The crazy part about it, is when you're young you don't see the truth. You don't see anything wrong with what they do. I remember one night i stayed up late. I didn't now how to tell time at the time, but i just remember my dad would come home from work when the smurfs came on, so i decided to hide and surprise him when he came home. Well he got home, and i jumped out to surprise him and he got mad at me. Asked me why the fuck am i up so late. Called me a piece of shit and went to sleep. That broke my heart as a child. But i still didn't see anything wrong, as a kid, when your parent yells at you, you can't help but feel like somehow you did something wrong. And its all your fault. I can go on and on about this guy. But it'd just be too much man

well i don't know where it started. but i do remember where it took off. i used to play allot of GTA SA when i was 12 or so. and i eventually found out about skin mods. and sometime later i found this car.. a Ford Model A skin mod. i installed it and never drove another car again in that game. so some day i decided to learn more about it as it became my dream to own one of these in the future. started reading books, looking at schematics, ect... since then i've always been busy with mechanics and now own a 1954 ford prefect :D it's a resto project tough, but i feel lucky that i learned all that shit so early so restoring has become an easy thing for me.

Had literally no interest in cars, primarily because of anime and video games, always felt that I never needed one, never went out with friends as all the friends I had in high school were the same type of faggots, school then Vidya rinse and repeat. Was too much of a fuck to get a job in high school, looking back should have. Ended up getting into cars after walking to and from college bus stops for the last couple years, public transportation is shit. Would still be walking now if it werent for my father Running his car to 200k miles and giving a big ass truck a love tap. So he upgraded and now I have an old 06 325i, working to get the fender fixed.

Used to watch Mad Max and Road Warrior a ton as a kid, then got on Gran Turismo with my stepdad, he loved playing the racing games.

He got me into Touring Car racing and we used to play TOCA Touring Carsa lot on the PS1, sometimes we even went to see the actual races, remember going to Silverstone and Donnington Park with him.

Oddly I ended up with a motorcycle, mostly down to his doing as he had three motorcycles himself, one was an old bike from when he was younger which he was gradually restoring, he had a 1991 ST1100 which he still has to this day with no issues, and some other bike that I can barely remember.

He used to work nights with Avis rent a car company, so often he'd take me out late at night for a spin in various cars whilst delivering or collecting them etc, good times.

Should probably get around to doing my driving test, biker, but still have a fondness for good cars.

Other honourable mentions go to V Rally, Sega Rally, WRC on the ps2, and Tokyo Highway Battle on the dreamcast I think it was...fun stuff.

Also, instead of a simply fast vehicle, I wanted to be a loud ass annoying faggot with a shit ton of flash, so I got an old muscle car that sounds like a freight train at idle and bolted a supercharger to it. I frequently shitpost IRL by driving up and down quiet neighborhoods late at night rattling windows and setting off car alarms when I rev.

My brother was the Mustang obsessed family greaser. I was the pathetic computer and video game nerd. We were night and day different (still are actually)

Being poor, and not being able to afford the rediculous (and often fraudulent) charges levied at the dealergogue is what changed my tune about cars.

I started with my air and cabin filter, then my oil, then my breaks, and it grew from there. Working on my car ended up being the same to me as working on my tower.

I still don't know as much as most other people here, but I know a shit-ton more about cars this year alone, than the past 25 years combined.

Im also on track to be smarter about cars than my brother, which I plan to keep under wraps to avoid blow his self esteem the fuck out.

I only heard of Initial D when I started shitposting on this automotive board of a Canadian basket weaving forum and I ironically enjoyed it at first but it got boring and repetitive real quick.

Probably started with collecting Matchbox and Hotwheels cars, had some of my dad's since I can remember. Loved construction vehicles and trucks as a toddler, watched the shit out of Bob the Builder and pic related (obscure Australian kids video about trucks).

Later moved onto vidya, mainly PS1 and PS2 later on. Hotwheels Turbo Racing, original Need for Speed, Andretti Racing which was always too hard, then Mashed, Race Driver 2, Juiced, Midnight Club, Ford Racing 3, Gran Turismo 3, NFS Hot Pursuit 2, MX vs ATV, Cars movie game, Spyhunter, and a few others.

My grandparents had various morotbikes and trucks on their farm which I got to play with.

Had a bit of a dead patch through high school, but got into muscle cars and JDM after watching Mad Max and having a mate who collects Celicas.

And from then on it's consumed me.

I think it largely stems from being unhappy as a child.

And my dad always driving explorers and blazers and puckups and drifting everywhere in the snow.

My dad was a mechanic and very into cars so I was 'into' them in a very normie sense since I was young. Like collecting hotwheels, lego sets, and 1/18th models of random cool looking cars. First car was a handmedown so I didn't concern myself with finer things until I started researching on what car to buy next. Guess the real spark was that, finding out what was the best thing for the money I had to put down. Then came everything else like topgear, initiald, and videogames

Being a child and asking my dad "can we go down dirt roads" and then we'd hop in his F250 and drive down some bay-access road listening to CCR cassettes. Once in a while we'd hit a cool state park and he'd drive through puddles and run one side of the truck onto the berm on the side of the road to make it feel like its tipping over.

Thanks dad ;_;

i bought a car for work and it was fun to drive
also it was manual because i was honestly stupid enough to buy a car i couldn't drive for no real reason other than i thought it was cool.

it worked out much better than expected

Same here man.

>get my first car
>I4 FWD manual

I realized I was going into High School with no knowledge on cars and too much knowledge on video games and TV.

My dad is a ASE certified master tech. It was pretty hard not to learn about cars.

All my friends are into cars. It rubbed off onto me and I got tired of not knowing what the fuck they were talking about so I started to learn more about them.

I liked cars a little when I was younger, like all kids. Didn't really have an interest in them until I drove my dad's car for the first time, it was lots of fun, and I really started enjoying driving. Then, I met lots of cool folks who liked cars, so I got more into talking about them.

My neighborhood was filled with car geeks when I was growing up.

My dad also took me to a lot of races at the local track.

I learned how to read when I was 3-4 years old by reading out all the road signs I drove past with my dad. The primary school I went to made a big deal of it. The principal used to call me out to read in front of people. Obviously to show off how good his education was but I learned how to read before I started kindy.

Old man used to let me change gear sometimes too. He'd hold down the clutch and say put in 4th or whatever. I almost crashed my dad's ute by taking it out of gear when he left the car to talk to somebody. He had to run after it and re-engage the handbrake. It was one of those weird handbrakes that need a twist and is located near the steering wheel. I couldn't help myself.

Then when I was a 5+ years old and living with my mum she got me one of these to play with as well as a few hot wheels cars. I was always into cars, since I was old enough to talk.Got my licence as soon as is legally possible and it takes multiple tests here in NSW. Passed everything first try.

So I guess my answer is: the world
