Only kit I've done is an rc car. I'd like to get a kit car when I graduate in a year

You have to paint it. Do you have an airbrush?
>how fucked am i?
Depends on how much patience you have. Keep in mind there's more to it than just putting the pieces together. Just cutting them out and cleaning them up takes precision.

No but i have 2 - 3 weeks to gather all the supplies and prepare
what should I practice painting on?
and I am extremely patient.

Just use spray cans and brushed enamel anon.
You'll get better results than would starting out with an airbrush.
All the paints codes will be in the instructions, also get a decent primer like Tamiya or MR.HOBBY

ok thanks.
I just got pic related, I've always had 1:18 die cast models but always wanted to personalize them and never bought model kits because of the small scale but I found this 1:20 scale 928s by Tamiya and am really amazed by how much detail there is in such a small model. It's also cool for learning the different little features and platforms of various cars. It is quite expensive and requires a lot of patience but well worth it and a fun hobby.
Just do some research and you'll find out all the little tools you'll need.

>those seats
muh dink
I'm more into planes when it comes to models, but I have built a few cars too.
for me they almost always turn out shitty looking because I have shaky hands so putting them together is a mess, and I don't have an airbrush so all paint goes on with a brush. Im working on an f18 hornet right now

Go to /toy/ and ask the Scale Model or Gunpla Generals.
You're gonna need plastic cement (dont use superglue) nippers, a hobby knife, tweezers, primer, paint, sandpaper (800+ grit) patience and ability to follow instructions.
I would recommend getting ne of those cheapo snap in Airfix kits first though.

Quite a few scale model hobbyists in /ak/-GuP threads too, for obv reasons.
OP, if you want some good model building advice, might I suggest the gunpla threads on /m/? They're not really the same thing, but they've got a pretty good FAQ that covers a lot of the same basic stuff.
