I feel like a lot of people don't get that the RB26 is super old technology. It doesn't even have VVT and the VVT retrofit kit is unpopular because the tuning community is a bunch of retards.

The VR38DETT is much closer to something that can do 600 HP with good response, and it has an extra 1.2L of displacement to get there. The RB26 realistically can only achieve about 450 HP before response starts to suffer. Even bored out to 2.8L response down low won't be great if you push past about 500 HP.

You can absolutely go nuts and make an RB26 get up to 600 HP or more but you're never going to hit boost below 4000 RPM.
