Mechanic here, euro cars are fine to work on you fucking softcock.

Its not even just the cars that are garbage, the owners are too. Had a guy come in a couple years ago with some high spec mercedes AMG. 3 years old done 50,000kms and it needed brake pads and rotors all round, the kicker is that they were carbon ceramic shit. I give the guy a $9,000 price just to do his brakes and he flips it at me saying im trying to rip him off and that im a scumbag. Its not my fault he bought factory ricer upgrades

Im working on an alpha now, clutch to be specific. Ive already come across 5 different ways this car could have been made better and saved a lot of time and theyre all common sense shit. Ive only taken out the battery and undone the cables at the top of the gearbox
>>
>>15599216
he's probably one of those people that say Subarus are hard to work on too
>>
I on the other hand will probably never again buy anything else except BMW. I know they're a bitch to maintain, but it's all labor of love.
On the other hand, I hate working on other peoples BMWs because they're not mine, working on them doesn't have a clear benefit for me aside for keeping the money rolling in.
>>
Im the same way, anytime a eurotrash pos rolls into the lot i get pissed. Such shit cars and the customers are all cheap, broke assholes.

And there is your problem. You won't get through to her no matter what you do.
>>
>>15600253
I think its more of "if they made the bolt go from the other side then i wouldnt need to take the whole crossmember off" kind of shit that euros are infamous for
>>
What if German cars were actually better but the people who buy them, buy them because they are German and are better, so that they dont have to worry about things like, oil, coolant, air pressure, etc.
>>
Good idea: learning how to do something that you think you'll enjoy
Bad idea: doing it for a living
>>
Honestly I have a hard time feeling bad for anyone who regrets becoming a mechanic. You knew what you were getting into. Everyone told you not to do it, that you would hate your life, but you just plugged your ears and shouted "LALALALA CAN'T HEAR YOU" and did it anyway.
>>
im also an mechanic/technician, i think german cars has some issues in them but they arent so bad (some bmw, vw engines are pretty shit, mercs are better). but in japanesecars toyota has far more better choices than nissan. some nissans like from the 90s have shitty choices in chasis structure, and nissan engines are more unrealibe than toyotas.
>>
>>15600353
but i enjoy my job for some reason, french cars are the worst
>>
>>15599007
Pretty much the same story with me, I couldn't ever standing working on anything euro, especially german.

I worked at a diesel garage for a long time, we had detroit and Mercedes engines that we mainly worked on. The mercedes was a slightly inferior engine in terms of power, got a little better mpgs, and was about 3X as complex as the detroit. Any money you saved on gas definitely was offput by the amount of labor you'd have to pay for the goddamn thing.

That's typically what german engineering is, does basically the same thing as anyone else, but it's way more complex so OMG IT'S SO HIGH TECH, SO ENGINEER!!!

This isn't a new philosophy, german engineering is a pretty old concept to them, and it's lost them several wars.
>>
How's the race car?
>>
>>15600365
Remember the good old days when you didnt need to dismantle of the engine to change the alternator? What the fuck happened?
>>
>>15599007

how are porsches, audis, and VWs?
>>
If you work at a eurotrash dealer its probably not that bad, but its the independent shop guys that get stuck working on the old, neglected, 100k+ cars that Tyrone picked up at the lot for $6k with a 25% interest loan who cant even afford the most basic maintenance on it. The car only gets brought in when it won't move anymore after years of abuse and you know the customer has no money and is going to be a whiney bitch about parts on his imported, luxury car costing so much more than the ford focus he used to drive.

This is what happens 99% of the time in my experiences.

I've got backups for the things that actually break (pretty much anything with a spring in it), but I still only need to replace a tool every 3-6 months. 3 HF ratchets in each size is still cheaper than a single Snap-On ratchet.

Plus there's a handful of tools that HF just can't get right. I use Channel Lock brand channel locks because Harbor Freight just can't manage to make a set that are actually useful for anything.

>previously be service advisor
>speak to cheap ass customers in plain English, explain recommended work, fluid changes etc in an honest, straight forward way
>developed small customer base, do easy light bulbs for $10 versus the $30 listed in the catalogue because it takes 5 mins
>shop becomes known for honesty and good customer service like using floor mats and seat covers to keep old rich white people happy

I'm always busy and getting customers to request my services and book appointments while other tire installers sit around. It takes logic, patience and trim panel tools and German cars will make you big money you whiny bun.

Pic related German engineering at its best

German engineering is great if your definition of engineering success is something working 100% under ideal conditions with maintenance by a trained professional.

A German might ask, Why do you want to fix things? Leave that to the mechanic!

The buses suffered from high heat build up in the engine bays that would deteriorate the fuel lines. Eventually fuel would leak onto the hot engine and ignite.
>>
>>15599193
Switched careers three years ago from mechanic to railroad. One of my better decisions. Never understood why so many mechanics are scared of euro. It's just nuts and bolts.
>>
>>15602674
iirc this happens after an improper fuel filter replacement because for some reason Volkswagen braided the fuel lines in fabric and if you route it wrong, it touches the exhaust and burns away.

On a slightly related note, my father long ago owned a VW van in which he accidentally set himself on fire with a joint, while driving it. He had this enormous Bob Ross afro and it just went up.

This reminds me of guys who were scared to do timing belts and gaskets
