So 2003~2007 7 series are now around 9-10k to buy and I was wondering whether I should buy one or another luxury car around the same year. As far as these cars go, I know that maintenance repairs are going to be a nightmare (same for s-classes and upper end audis im sure) and just basic upkeep will also be expensive as well. My job requires that I drive a lot, and with a budget of around 10k just for the initial cost (I make about 45k) would it be silly to get one of these? As far as comfort, what other options could I look at for the price?
Get a Lexus
2008 Acura TL Type-S
Horrible idea. Tires alone will cost you 800 a set, and you will need a new set every year.
IMO get something japanese as you will be driving it a lot. The 7 series would be ok if you were just going around town.

I have an 06 sitting 20 feet away from me getting $3,000 worth of work right now. I can guarantee you that, at the very least, your new 7 series will have a shit ton of oil leaks that are stupid expensive to fix. The valve covers alone take 6 hours to replace and there isn't a 745/750 out there that doesn't have leaky valve covers.
Spend that 10k on literally anything else. It'll get you a solid LS430 for sure.

Lexus LS430 my dude. Bangle 7s are awful reliability wise, there is a reason they're 3-10k and LS430s from the same year and MSRP are 10-15k

unless you are good at working on cars it will be rape
also you'll need friends at a bmw garage to lend you specialist tools

I love me some 7 series. But the E65/66 seems to be one of the worst BMW's to own... ever?
I did like the '10/'11 Ford Fusion Sports though. They were nice and comfortable. Had an '11 as a company issued car and put 50K miles on it before I left the company. No problems. Took it from Seattle to Manhattan and back, with a few stops.

Take your 9-10k and buy a mint v12 e38. Better in every way.

Yes, but still not a car you want for reliability. Maintaining an M73 is a full time job itself.
Unless you do a full engine and transmission build, then it's mostly just standard maintenance.
