Total car retard here, just a quick question

What is the outlined (pic related) part called? The long "tube" going through the LSD?

Thanks /o/
>>
It's called a centripetal rotary jack.
>>
It's not a single tube. It's the drive shafts.
>>
>>15558137
Cheers

Question im asking is because im looking at getting rust protection underneath my car, and everything looks fine except for that part ..(I thought it was a single long tube) is rust on drive shafts normal? Doesn't seem like theres holes or anything just seems weird that everything but that part looks fine
>>
>>15558150
>is rust on drive shafts normal?

Surface rust on any metal is nothing immediately bad. Salvageable, usually.
Try and scrape the surface and see if it's just that, otherwise leave it alone and replace at some point.

not worth it

If I want to get into cars (knowing a shitton about them in terms of operation) and, after that, into doing my own maintenance and, ultimately, working on cars, what should I read/watch/listen to/etc.?

Do you have any suggestions? (not links to downloads or anything)
>>
>>15558209
Id suggest starting with a bit of youtube and learning the lingo used in car communities all around the world. Heres a few to list (youtube channels)

Mighty Car Mods
Two Australian guys who have great quality videos and how tos related to cars and documentaries on car culture, mainly Japanese domestic vehicles, but they have also traveled the world.

Regular Car Reviews
Has the voice of a radio star who reviews regular everyday cars as well as sportscars here and there with POV driving. Cracks some funny jokes but some of his videos are wasteful. Overall great content and reviews USDM cars to JDM cars EDM cars etc with plenty of knowledge on history.

Chrisfix
Extremely helpful videos which are easy to understand no matter who you are or what you are capeable of. Mainly on the lines of repairs and some slight modifications here and there. Also teaches you how to buy a used car a few episodes back which was really helpful for me

TheSmokingTire
Corvette owner reviews many different modified cars taking them on winding roads. Most of the cars are fan-owned. He did a feature when he went to review a few cars in new zealand for a while which i thought was great.
Overall good content with a wide variety of cars reviewed

Other than that try and download the shop manual for your car online and start doing minor repairs and / or fixes on your car that are within your foreseeable reach.

thanks man. I should have said that I'm not completely clueless about cars, that's my bad. I always kinda assumed the best thing to do would be to buy a used car after already owning/leasing a daily driver and go crazy with it

Already subbed to RCR, I enjoy his reviews a lot. Probably should watch a lot more of his falcon build videos tb.h. Thanks for the other channels; I've heard of a few of these before so I'll check em out

How large is all of that content? It seems like it'd be great to have.

Normal and usually minimal as most contaminates get spin off it on account of them spinning at several thousand RPM.
