Anything against me purchasing this as a first car?
Also, Subaru General thread.

Hey neighbour. Are you going to get an Adventure Pass for that thing?

For sure.

Bumping with a smol and fast subie.
>>15549452
It's a beaten up shitbox that has some stuff bolted to it in order to make it look like it's designed for something it isn't.
Expect an awful lot of drivetrain breakages if you intend on taking that thing bush bashing.

Goddabit, I want a Subie that's decently reliable and offroad capable around 3-4k.
What am I looking at>

If you want something off-road capable for that price point if be looking at Suzuki based off-road era like Geo Trekkers.
Subarus can work if your idea of off-loading is bombing down fire trails, but driving in such a way is going to be breaking stuff regularly.

>Geo Trekkers
most fun you can have for 1000 without getting arrested for soliciting services

>bombing down fire trails
This is exactly what I want to do.

Then, I'd suggest focussing on something that's built to cope with abuse, as opposed to a sedan that provides some good traction in adverse conditions.

No kidding. Putting stuff like Suzukis and Daihatsus in places where vehicles probably shouldn't be going is damn entertaining.

You know jack shit about those Subarus. The outback is fucking phenomenal

>the outback is fucking phenomenal
At hard parking for photo opportunities in unlikely scenarios? Sure. At driving up a beach? Yeah, go for it. Just bring a tool box full of half shafts with you if you're attempting something worthwhile or driving like a knob.

To be fair, almost nothing street legal and stock is going to be able to tackle rough terrain at speed without frequently breaking shit. Obviously a proper off-roader is going to be able to go to a lot more places, but a Suzuki still isn't a great for taking hard corners on dirt roads or smashing into deep ruts.
Fire roads can also be pretty tame. If OP is talking about smoother fire trails without tight transitions or deep ruts, even a stock Subie should be able to blast around them without much issue. The mad max mods won't make much difference, aside from maybe making it slightly harder to get stuck if OP runs a couple wheels off the trail.
