Gameplay was great and the map was fun to drive around.
Horizon pulse is the GOAT station.

I hate how Forza 5 tried to go all classy with an incredibly overbearing instrumental strings soundtrack that added unnecessary tension because it never changed tempo or intensity based on the racing, and there were no other style of music in the game. The menu and races had several distinctly different songs, but all in the same style so it was like listening to the same fake-pretentious youtube free-use crap with the same overused chord progression thorough the whole game.

It was so infuriating I sold the whole damn console.

They never followed you off road, but always knew where you were, so they just kept watching you on the road and the wanted/chase thing never cooling off unless you were on the road

It's more of a programming limitation. They couldn't program an offroad AI that didn't crash, but didn't want to make escapes too easy or encourange offroading Countaches either, so they went for a compromise.

I prefer the setting of the original Horizon much more. It just seemed to flow better and was more connected to its audience.

The "tutorial" in the Viper was fantastic, in that it turned out to not be the playable character but perfectly set up the theme and hype. Then you transition to a side of the road hangout with a bunch of dudes with much more attainable cars (Focus, old VWs, some classic muscle). The race to the Horizon party was fantastic.

It did fall on its face a bit at the end (wouldve liked a more dynamic ending than just staying at 200mph for 20 minutes - where was my race into horizon center to win the girl?).

My absolute favourite part of playing The Crew was gathering around the popular skills challenges like slaloms and racing lines, and intentionally blocking the efforts of other players that happen to sync with you.
Usually after their third attempt you've ruined they'll switch to what ever heavy weight baja offroad vehicle and try chase you down and ram you out of frustration. Favourites are when they call up a friend to try distract you while they keep trying to attempt the challenge.Seriously some of the most fun I've had with online gaming.

You could in the beta, and still can, turn off the HUD, freedrive challenges, notifications, GPS line and drive around with only your in-car gauges with no distractions save for player nametags. Webm fucking related.

It is the most supremely comfy game and the physics are really fun. I guess it wouldn't be very fun if you are autismo supreme about how your cars behave in video games, but the majority of The Crew's failings are in it's visual presentation, and not in the actual gameplay.

Also, while The Crew's driving physics model is incredibly arcadey, Hardcore mode is very similar to Gran Turismo 2 or perhaps NFS3/4: You can basically throw the cars into turns recklessly but if you get on the power too soon or too much, you will spin. The nitrous is not just a rocket booster that comes out of the tailpipe, it actually adds power according to the rev range of the vehicle you're driving, and manual transmission is a NECESSITY to make good use of the boost in races. You can even use a clutch and H-shifter, if you so desire. You can also use the H-shifter with autoclutch for those arcade racer feels, put on the Outrun OST and bomb across the US in a nitrous-snorting Ferrari like it's 1989
