What is best way to undo smoked taillights? Judging by this picture is it a tint or a spray?
Belt grinder, headlight restoration kit.

maybe an abrasive compound and elbow grease?
>>15488120
what does one call it?

The tail lights? On that STI pictured? I think that's called stock. AKA, factory, OEM, original?
I'd just buy new ones and put the old ones on letgo or craigslist
Would an abrasive compound work?

Just new ones. There's no easy way.

some people say to remove and wipe down with brake cleaner

You won't want to do that, you'll damage the clear coat on the lights. Unless you can peel off the film, if it is film, your only option is new OEM units.
