Backstory:
>6 speed S15 was made 5 speed S15
>friend bought used gearbox, threw it in

Theory being the box was so fucked it loosened the flywheel, which then elongated and trashed the threads.

The whole thing is a shitfight.
It's the ex-Zen Garage/Need for Speed S15, so it looks mint, just drives like shit.

I watched the video. What sort of drongo takes an angle grinder to the end of a crankshaft? And fuck you guys have some nice houses up there in Sydney.

>Still waiting on engine head and clutch
Shop's having trouble getting hold of ARP head studs, and his head guy is on leave at the moment. Water pump I ordered is the wrong type and the impeller is too long for the housing, while the neck isn't long enough to reach the drive belt. Old one still looks quite decent after a clean so I'll use that for the moment...
>>

>it's been a while
Aye, that it has. I've been playing the waiting game with parts and money for a while lately. Just spent an hour or so cleaning some bits and pieces up for when it all goes back in, I'm getting impatient now.

So many silly little bits that I need to buy tools for, like getting the oil filter mount stud out of the block. Dipstick tube is going to be a prick as well, it's stuck in the oil pump with some sort of rubbery crap around it and no amount of turning or pulling will get it out.

On another note, I did have some success getting a pilot bearing out using bread...

I was going to go for flipped exhaust manifolds, so RHS to LHS pointing forwards and vice versa, a mechanic friend has a spare truck turbo that we can have, then weld water pipe to bring the air to a fat front mount, then sort out some sort of engine management. Should be budget, can resell parts when it goes pop, and make a Rodeo go way faster than they ever should

>>
>>15460538
Honestly I don't know why the ecotec gets shit on. I much prefer I6s to V6s but there's just so much shit for the ecotec. From factory you have a low-comp engine (the supercharged one) with a supercharger available
Then you have every mod possible available for the engine

Also how hard would it be to get a supercharged engine, slap on an n/a manifold and remove the supercharger then run a joocy turbo at 17.5psi
>>
>>15460633
The SZ-R (96 and up) has the TT (RZ) gearbox, diff, brakes and other shit.
It's so much better than the normal SZ it's insane, and if you're planning to keep the car and throw a GTE in it when you're off your Ps, a much cheaper way to do things in the longterm.

Also consider driving a shitbox on your Ps (SSS pulsar are alright) and saving so you can get a spotless >00 TT when you're off them.

GTiR, I love Skylines but the GTiR is underrated as fuck. SR20 turbo and AWD in a setup that is only a bees dick over 1200kg curb weight.

Killer little cars, work it up to a lazy 250KW at the wheels and enjoy your salt making machine

That's expensive unless it's mint.

I bought my 1J soarer for $3,600 and the exterior and interior condition is acceptable considering it came with a good sized intercooler, filter+box, dump pipes + high-flow cat into 3", steel wheel high flow turbos, an engine that's 105,000kms newer than the body, a built auto with a higher stall converter, a supra diff, 4-piston supra/LS400 brakes, supra wheels with 275s on the rear and a very good alarm+imm system with an electric boot release.

I'd expect a $4k V8 to have a bunch of similar things done to it, the brakes and diff are especially important.

Spent days trying to work out this one, Car was revving high randomly after driving. Turn it off it may go away it may come back on starting.

No fault codes, no nothing.

Ended up being a oil pressure sensor at the back of the motor was damaged internally. Forcing oil into the harness, then over a long ass time it was forced and pushed and made its way all the way to the front of the engine and into the ECU causing a intermittent bridging of shit across the ECU and telling it that it needs to rev.

Straight 6 motor with the sensor at the very back and the ECU behind the LHF head light area. about 2 meters of harness in total, Not a single bit of oil came out of any other park of the harness so it wasn't visibly fucked.

Countryside looks a lot like the UK though. Especially in the top half of the state. West coast and Central Highlands is more like southern Chile.

Is it plentiful in the car scene? Are the cops easy on the hooning? Do people race in the touge? many places to highway pulls? Any events like skids or HWY like we have in Vic?
>>
>>15461571
>Is it plentiful in the car scene?
If sex spec R33 GTS-t's are your thing, then it's plentiful. Not really many tasteful vehicles there though. I saw a very tidy Jap import AE86 in Launceston recently but for the most part, car culture consists of riced Lancers, dropped Hiluxes, and Mangtecs.

>Are the cops easy on the hooning?
Hard to say for me. I've been pulled over for speeding pretty exorbitantly (79 in a 60), and the copper said "don't let me catch you again m8, have a good night, okay?". But the only thing I've been pulled over for in NSW is for having out of state registration, so I can't really give you an apt comparison.

I can say that the police presence itself is less noticeable. Like, HWP in NSW like to camp all the way along the Hume and some select spots on the smaller single lane highways as well, but you don't really see much of that if any in Tassie. No point to point speed cameras, and very little in the way of fixed speed cameras - the ones that are around tend to have a sign warning you about 2km ahead anyway.

>Do people race in the touge?
If my car were alive and running, I would be pretty keen to touge battle that AE86 I saw in Launceston. Typically no, not really.

>many places to highway pulls?
I guess. How good does a road have to be to do a highway pull though? There are dual carriage ways and the Midlands Highway is sort of straight, but you won't find dead straight roads to belt along at 250km/h for an extended period of time like you would in WA or SA.

>Any events like skids or HWY like we have in Vic?
Not really. I reckon closest you'd come to an "event" would be the drift days hosted at Baskerville Raceway. I know in Sydney that one can go to Eastern Creek pretty often and drag race others, but there isn't really anything like that down there. There's a drag strip in Powranna that hosts an event once a year from memory as well.
>>
>>15461745
Sounds like it would be good to ferry my car across and stay in tassie for a few days. Tbh tho, I feel from what you're saying is that you would usually see the same modded cars at every meet. At least their police presence doesn't seem as heavy as vics.

The issue I've had with them is they take up almost a quarter of the opening, and not only keep you from standing and tying stuff off against the headboard, but make it too small for a motorcycle (which I'm sure is your motivation for looking at small pickups :P) which would otherwise fit without the tonneau.

No. But cutting up on the beach is.
I've never come across a dual cab that doesn't fit a road bike, so long as the tailgate is down. Longer bikes need to be parked diagonal, but as long as you don't have a retarded rake, no clearance and crappy turning circle like a Harley, you won't have any problems wheeling your Kwakka up.
The added benefit of a crewcab is more lockable weatherproof area, even if you're not carrying five people. Good for chucking your helmets and riding gear.

The SZ-R at least does 0-100 in 6.5 seconds or less, meaning it's still quite fun. An R33 GTS would be lucky to pull away from a fucking twin cam excel.

Too heavy for the RB20 and you can't really get the power you need out of them without creating tons of lag.

If i had to do the p-plate shit all over again, i personally would pick up a VZR pulsar. Don't listen to /o/tists, a little FWD that revs to the moon is equally as fun as a big power RWD in its own way.
Next choice would be an SZ-R supra, followed by an RB20DE swapped S13, before going to a BF XR6 Manual with an LSD and pacemakers or a Celica GT4.

An RB25DE in the 33, meaning you take an already slow car (GTS) and add a whole lot of extra front weight for no reason while sapping more power with extra drivetrain.

You are now talking about a car that is, and i wish i was joking, as fast in a straight line as a hyundai excel.

>>
Tacky matte black wrap, huge wings and fart cannons are consent, right?
>>
>>15466607
Well it's a matter of perspective.

For a P plater, given the choice between a NA skyline or NA supra, the supra is better because...

>More reliable (way fucking more)
>More torque, Easy to slide about
>Near perfect weight distribution so actually pretty decent at cornering

Now a NA supra is pretty shit in a straight line, but it's still a reliable car capable of having fun.

The skyline IS going to break and don't think i hate skylines, i own a skyline GTR.

As the other guy said, it's all the downsides of having a skyline with none of the speed.
Now if you're on your fulls, it really comes down to taste because both can be built to stupid levels and be crazy fast.

Between a skyline GTR and a turbo supra, get what you enjoy the most and then build on that, they're both great.
