it is not a great car but its ok. if i had a choice i would get a GTO instead

The 4.6 DOHC is a better option. It's aluminum, it's lighter and has 4 valves per cylinder. Both pale to the coyote.

4.6 3V was all aluminum, and had a composite intake manifold over the cast ones on the DOHC, hence a small weight advantage. DOHC is better up top, but the 3V design is really not that much worse, and the cam phasing allows for much more uniform power delivery.

Oil windage tray from the FR500's made it into regular production on the 3V engines as well, which is a definite plus over the older mod motors. Early (05-06) motors also had magnesium valve covers to further drive weight down on the engine.

It's not quite as sexy as a DOHC mill or as cheap as the 2V SOHC ones, but it has it's strengths. Reliability is above average, save for engines that have a nasty habit of having the factory spark plugs breaking in them during removal. Aftermarket is also insanely good, mod motors will always see much love from the community, but new parts are now becoming slow in the pipe as most aftermarket companies R&D has shifted to the 5.0.

Performance is solid, considering what it'll be up against. Mine put down a 13.6 with nothing but dropped mufflers. I've since edged that down to 12.9 with a pretty rounded list of engine bolt ons and a good bit of suspension stuff.

There's a lot of stuff that newer, sexier, and faster, but mine is paid off, I love how it looks and drives and it puts a smile on my face whenever I'm in it, so take that as you will.
