I am new to bikes and still don't understand the petcock. When my bike is parked, should I leave the petcock on "On" "pri" "reserve" ? I get how the petcock works and what each one is for. But when I look up what the bike needs to be on when I am parked, I don't get the answer. Just that on is when it's running, pri is for flow of gas throughout, and reserve gives access to the lower part of tank.

Mounted my tires myself tonight with the help of a friend. My first time mounting tires that weren't moped/dirtbike tires myself. Just tire spoons, balancing beads, and some dish soap. Was honestly easier than dirtbike tires.

Otherwise got my new brake pads on as well and did a lot of cleaning/scrubbing in/around/behind the swingarm and the spring where it was filthy. Also heavily cleaned the wheels themselves. Hoping I can wrap most everything else up tomorrow. With as hot as it is though I can only stand to actually do much work after 9pm and I usually try to go to bed around 11 since I'm up at 7 every weekday for work.

Can't wait to have the 9r back on the road though.

I'm considering suicide

Just stalled on my steepass driveway going up hill. I managed to just pop it in neutral and walk it into my garage but after a long day of riding perfectly I can't fucking forget this dumb fuckup

I've had my bike for 4 days now and hadn't stalled it until today.

Shit happens. I've had my bike stall out on me because it didn't like cruising forward at idle, then have to row down through the gears and find neutral so it would let me start it up again. I would've just started it up and rode it the rest of the way. Fuck it.

What are you gonna do when you actually crash a bike?

Clutch was in.

Basically, my bike advances the timing based on speed. I was coasting to a stop with the clutch in in like 4th gear because I figured I could into rolling stop. Since I tuned the living fuck out of the bike plus the gradual timing advance and low RPMS the bike just stalled because it was like lol fuck you and your 20 degree ignition advance.

Ever since then I try to hold idle at like 2k rpm above 15mph.

M8 don't even worry about that shit. I had my GS300 shit itself halfway through a group ride like 50 miles from my house and I had to push start the fucker 4 times to get it to go because the battery was on it's way out and it wouldn't crank, and was running on one cylinder. While running insanely lean. If you crash that bike it'll be a good experience and you can get a new one.

Shit, when I crashed mine I just took it as an excuse to upgrade the fucker. I've been squidding it around locally trying to break in the tires while I save up and try to figure out why my FUCKING TACHOMETER REFUSES TO WORK REEEEEEEEEE.

It's a small, thick tube that you pump up to 100 psi. It seals your wheels so that you can pump up the tires as if they were tubeless, acts as a wheel lock, and the bladder protects your rim, so you can literally just keep running if you get a hole in the tire becuase the bladder will protect the wheel.

>>15273263
>have you been out east yet?
Nope. Taking the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Tail of the Dragon with my dad and brother this coming week. Returning to Rochester for a week or so, then heading to NYC to begin my TAT trip west. I'll be riding by you on our way to NYC at the very least, so I'll stop in and lube up.
>>
>>15273277
Good it would be really stupid if they had you install a tube and call it tubeless with a typo.

>Are the Dakar pants waterproof?
Nope, cheapest goretex klim shit is the Traverse, but they're not worth it becuase they don't come with armor, and adding the armor makes them more expensive than the Overland pants. Overland gear is the best Price:Performance imo, though the Badlands shit looks way more A D V E N T U R E.

Eh. My tire spoons have a bead breaker on them too so I can do full tire changes easy as fuck.

It literally takes me 2 minutes to do the rear tire onto the wheel of my bike if the tires are warm beforehand. The rest of the time is spent just seating the bead, which usually involves starter fluid on the front.

>>15273263
>Is this your bike friend?
I was. I sold it and got the MV Agusta, which is currently running but not functioning as it's supposed to.

Either one of the diodes is blown which is allowing the incorrect circuit to complete and shorting out my tach and speedo circuits, and fucking up a relay for my start switch, or my instrument cluster is fucked. If it's the diodes, I'll just replace them. If it's the cluster, pic related.

250s and 300s are tons of fun to fuck about with. Plus if you're like me and don't really give a fuck about crashing them you can easily become street rossi and fly in front of everyone else because you're not afraid of lowsiding.
>That sounds embarrassing but you seem unaffected so that's good.
I generally stay away from group rides with assholes. Plus I figured since the bike rides okay enough then I'd still ride as it was close to the end of the season and I wasn't sure what the issue was (turned out to be a loose connector on the left ignition coil).

I miss fucking around with that shitbike.

The KDX is 220lb dry, KLX is 230lb dry, XRR is 270lb dry

I know but I also have this problem where when I buy a nice bike [my XRR and Tiger] I feel a need to buy nice parts for it, unlike my KLX which I paid $900 for 6 years ago. Ebay parts are fine for that, I don't want to put Ebay parts on a bike that costs more than most of my cars

Difference is basically with the KTM piston i can start the bike and start riding, don't even need to warm it up.
With the wiseco piston if you don't warm it up the piston is likely to shatter.

I'm a little scared /dbt/. I'm the fag who rode his bike the first time on Tuesday, 25km on country roads. I'm going to ride it to the shop to have the bumped turn signal looked at and I'm just not 100% confident in my riding skills. I'll also be riding alone. I'm almost considering putting pic related on it somewhere, just to explain away why I go down to 20kmh in turns.

I'm considering going to a contest on Saturday on the bike, which is 100km on highway away. I'm taking things too quickly, aren't I? I should ask someone to carpool me.

I haven't felt this anxious in a while.

I think I'm remembering something about getting a bike with upright seating position as a first bike because it wouldn't be as scary as riding with forward lean, can dbt confirm?
Also going under 35kmh would cause the bike to lose stability afaik

What is /dbt/'s opinion on the Yamaha XSR700?

I will soon take my A2 license and will take the full license next year so I am looking to get a bike that I can restrict the power on until I have my full license.

So I am currently thinking about getting this bike as I have money saved as well as I'm a sucker for cuck racers. Most cuck racers are to low for me and I fear that they will be uncomfy after a while of riding them as well as not an enjoyable experience. This bike seems to be a good mix of old and new just reading about it. Would like to hear what your guys' opinon is though.
>>
>>15274177
Your the guest here m8. You should show some respect and at least not talk about your attraction to bearded men. This is a motorcycle thread for gods sake.
>>
>>15274206
But that's a modern scrambler, not a modern cafe racer.

I think it's a neat bike that would be a good daily driver.

My bad, really new to this.

Is it worth investing in? I've been looking at a lot of bikes and since I'm a new rider I'd like ABS on it as it also lowers the insurance.

I've found some used bikes of other brands that I like and they're a tad bit cheaper, however the insurance is almost twice as much as opposed to the Yamaha.

Do you have any other recommendations along the lines of this Yamaha?

Hello /dbt/.

After years of being a no-bike and only lurking this thread only for the webms, I've got the opportunity to buy a bike. Since it'll be my first bike, I'm not buying brand new.

I've got the opportunity to buy the pick related, since I want a daily drive who can provide some comfort in the road. Here's the gig, it had the engine redone at 37.000km, and it's at 44.500km. What precautions can I have to make sure I'm not getting scammed? I've got a friend who is a mechanic (but doesn't work in the area) and trust a mechanic who is my client, I'm sure I can make him take I look but I want to know for myself.

I've read here that engine redone is actually a good sign (although they were talking about cars), but I'm not sure. About anything, realy. But I really like the bike and it has a good price for me.
