I can't tell you what is worth it to you. Personally I would keep the electric start as long as I don't need to buy anything, but just do away with it if it doesn't work because I don't want to spend money on new parts

>>15258937
that's odd, I might try that. tho to be honest, I think I might just give up and get a moped or something. Less work and heartache. I had a klr before my ninja, and the engine on that gave out.

every motorcycle I buy ends up being too expensive to fix to the point where I'd be paying more than the bike is worth to get it rideable. Are there any reliable, durable, cheap ass bikes out there?

>>15258958
but then why would both plugs give a good spark when testing them? And if that is the problem, could I just take the coil pack off my KLR and put it on the Ninja? same make, same engine size, etc

Honda is 286, R3 is 321. I think they'll top out under 350 because they need to be 95% the same as the Asian 250 bikes or else there's no point. (CBR400R is the displacement limited version of the CBR500R and $2000 more expensive)

It's a load of shit that clubs make their lightweight racing class limited to 390 so the KTM is eligible but not 400cc imports though.

The CBR300R is ridiculously outgunned by the RC390 as well though, although there is an HRC big bore kit for that motor if you want to start spending hilarious amounts of money on low level racing classes. Mind you given cylinder count equivalency it's pretty outgunned on paper regardless, which makes the fact people race it successfully pretty remarkable.

Do carbs inherently become dirty over time? I just had mine professionally cleaned/rebuilt and my bike is running fucking MINT. I want to do my best to maintain this.

When had a 200c street legal dirt bike, lived in central america, and only had a backpack i would be able to buy and fit enough groceries for two weeks. I lived about 30 miles from the grocery store. Really wasn't that bad, buy a few cans, lots of raw ingredients, nothing frozen, some drink mix. I basically ate rice, beans, scratch made tortillas and some canned foods. Shit was so cheap and easy to cook. I would visit the grocery store every week to two weeks.

do some studying on bikes you're interested in and see what common issues are for them.
have them keep the bike off and stone cold before you get there so you can start it yourself and see if it sounds weird or acts wierd all through the heat cycle. then ride it and make sure its behaving properly when you test ride it.

if you dont feel confident in your abilities to ID problems call local shops and ask for rates on a pre buy inspection

A good starter bike, Great size for lane splitting. Cruisers are much more forgiving then sports bikes. I have a GV250 which is pretty similar but heavy. My advice is you plan to keep it so awhile maybe look at a larger engine. They aint going to kill you as cruisers are pretty slow anyway. Had my for 2 years now top ends arounds 140-145km. Great for commuting but i want more punch to its engine.

It just means that the insurance company doesn't think it's worth repairing, so they're junking it out. I can't say much because I only know California law, but even here you can re-register a total loss vehicle after a few inspections (smog, brake and lamp for cars, brake and lamp for motorcycles) you're free to ride again. It's likely even easier in your state, check with your DMV if you have doubts.

what one's that?

It was more of a general "How do I even buy a bike if I can't ride it?", but yeah, I'm gonna need help eventually.
I say eventually because I haven't actually decided on a bike yet. I keep on putting it off because I get stuck with my "can't ride" dilemma, and because I still need to save up a bit more to buy a bike, insurance, the MSF course, and the equipment I need before I can really start riding

shit sucks

Styling on indian is cooler, especially the light, but I like the geometry on the victory more.
Unlike what indian may think about rear suspension, it's going to absorb shock directed upwards, not towards the front of the bike.
>>
>>15260185
Aye. I found some leaking 1990 forks on eBay for 70 bucks. I could buy those and New fork seals, and have that knocked out in an afternoon. Should I go for it?
>>
>>15260337
The swingarm pivots around and compress the shock either way. Mounting the shock at a different angle just changes the leverage it has.

my left fork is leaking like a motherfucker

say i just ignore it what will happen?
>>
>>15260353
I hear uneven forks (left dampens different from right, like what will happen when one leaks out oil) can cause a tankslapper. Also if all the oil drains out it can damage the internal fork parts (bushings?)

Just check the title first. Here, some cars get "not repairable" titles. If yours gets this or something similar, it's done. Dead. Fortunately I almost always only see those for severe rollovers or total burns. So if that's your bike, you most likely will only need to patch it up to your state's standards and you're good.

still not good for the forks. Fix that shit
>>
>>15260365
he ggame me back my clear title and i read here in sc that if its less then 2000 you can keep a clear title the only reason for the total loss is the repair cost was a liittle over the price of the bike it still runs and drives
>>
>>15260377
yah ok

ffff i hate fixing, just wanna ride

Oil will leak and not dampen for shit.
>>
>>15260352
I sent him an email to make sure it's just fork seals. They're definitely used but they look good (better than mine)
I don't think it will be a problem given they're 1990 and my bike is 2007. Both gen 1 so it should be fine but I'd like to be sure.
>>
>>15260442
>>15260472

yeah it's already rough sailing, ought to seal that shit

I WANNA RIDE THOUGH, NOT WRENCH
>>
>>15260490
Can you manage one hour with some sockets, a measuring cup, and a pvc pipe? Then you can do fork seals.
>>
recently my bike does not want to start when cold. it cranks for a little bit and then the battery gets too weak to crank it quickly. it starts quickly and with no issues when push started, and with electric start after it has warmed up. does my battery just need replaced?
