That was a sleeper car in some models. The 1997 year brought out the 2.4L which was a fine engine for that car. The 1997 was able to out-slalom the lotus elise.

The car's main weakness was the type of people that bought them generally didn't take care of cars. So it's next to impossible to find a chevy cavalier on the road now. I still see one or two once every 3 months and they look clean, shiny, waxed. So I predict that is their first owner and one that takes care of it.
