The street racing thread?

I actually think that biker might have been ok after the wreck. They only had like 2 lanes closed and he might have been standing in that pic.
>yesterday, rainy afternoon mixed with Florida drivers and Friday rush hour traffic
>bumper to bumper, moving 5mph on I-95
>crotch rocket comes crusing by lane splitting, maybe 35mph
>10min later, accident in the left lanes
>bike is under a car and can't see where rider is

That pic is like 30min later going back the other way

How do you fellow ATGATT faggots deal with the heat? Like, just putting on the jacket and helmet I feel like I'm going to get heat stroke, and that's before adding gloves and the actual engine warmth.

Also, what do you do with your gear on hot days? I can lock the helmet to the bike no problem but have no idea where/how to stash my jacket. At work it's not an issue, but on days like today when I just wanna go to Ribfest....the fuck am I supposed to do?

Bikes are shitbikes when you can loop the fucker, drop it in a ditch, otherwise damage it but will still run and function and you don't particularly care about it.

If youre still here senpai, drench yourself in water.

Literally submerge your tshirt in the sink before putting the suit on, throw some water into your helmet, and make sure to bring around 1 liter of water per hour you'll be outside. Bring some isotonic tablets if you can too.

By the end of my first toogay run in 40°C Mediterranean weather my tshirt is already dry. By the end of the second one I'm questioning if this ride was a sane idea at all.

On really really 40+ hot days if I go out in full leathers I start to get dizzy and my pressure drops. Avoid the hottest hours, its not fun.

Or you can just go full on fuck the world without a condom and squid. It's an unequalled feeling.

If it's your first bike just get a used DRZ400SM, then once you're confident get the KTM. I've been salivating over a 690 SMC for years, almost flew out to Cali to buy one from an Anon on here.

Also, the Husqvarna 701 is the same bike but updated with a comfier seat and 1gal larger tank.

The 690 makes 50kw.

The DRZ is the cheap jap 'slightly worse in just about every way except reliability' 690. Buy used and you should be able to sell it for what you paid for it and then get the 690 when you get your full license or however you eurocucks do it.

The WR250X is another option very comparable to the DRZ400SM.

DRZ is definitely a meme bike, but it's great. They're actually super comfortable for around town because you sit straight up and can move forward and backwards on the seat wherever you want. The seat is a thin dirt bike seat though, so it feels like you're sitting on a 2x4 after about an hour. I've done 6 hour trips on the stock seat and while it wasn't great, it wasn't unlivable.

>what are 2x4's called in euroland?

More of an ice nigger. We only have a few days a year over 30C and the average high during my riding season is like 18C. So it's kind of shit when all the sport/track gear is aimed at hot weather.

Grom means like "dope" or "rad" in Norwegian.

I mean, like with a supermoto that i'm going to own for a while as a toy anyways. I don't really mind dropping it and working on it myself to learn. They're pretty resilient as far as i've heard, but if you drop like a Honda NSR type bike on the side a lot more gets fucked up.

my dad bought this thing for $500 last year with a rusted up motor because the gas drained down into it. it was never registered or titled, just sat in a guy's basement since new. he just finished it up this week and put it in a bike show. just gotta get it onto RSBFS and get a good price for it.

i dont know when ethanol was added to the fuel supply, but i dont think it was a factor for introducing moisture to the engine. nonetheless, the timing chain, roller bearings, rings, nearly everything steel inside the motor was gunked up with a rusty varnish and the bearings were pitted. you couldnt turn it over with a cheater pipe.
>>
>>15246381
I know that if you run a 2 stroke for a short period of time and then let it sit for a while it'll rust the bottom end out, but I don't know if 4 strokes have any sort of problem like that.
>>
>>15246388

>>
>>15246393
>i dont know when ethanol was added to the fuel supply
10% ethanol won't do that much and that looks 80's, if that had the same fluids the whole time it wouldn't have ethanol in it.
Basements are good for being humid and rusting shit but the gas likely didn't do anything.
>>
>>15246393
If the cam chain and bottom end bearings are rusted out then ethanol played no part, must be water or some sort of moisture in the oil, perhaps a coolant leak.

oh, to expand, if it's water cooled, anti-freeze turns into straight acid after a long time of sitting.

Ethanol is pretty hygroscopic, which means it attracts water. Secondly, gas never reaches the cam chain or bottom end in a 4 stroke , only oil. Somehow, water got into your oil. That's the only foreseeable way for a cam chain to rust.

Netherlands, 2010 - deaths per 1 billion km traveled
Motorcycle: 77 (or 1 death per 13 million km)
Scooter: 43
Pedestrian: 14

motor oil is hygroscopic but gas won't cause anything directly to rust if there's no ethanol.

Steel can't physically rust if it's just gasoline lad. This is science.
You said it was stored in a basement.
Basements in homes are generally more humid than outside areas, both gas and oil are hygroscopic. Water caused the rust, you can store gas in a tank indefinitely and it will never rust as long as there's not ethanol or water.

30 years of sitting explains some gas in the bottom end. But the gas couldn'tve taken on much water because it was in an airtight environment (the cylinder). I don't think it would have enough water to rust it that much. But, I could be wrong. And you said it was air-cooled, so that eliminates coolant in the oil. I guess water in the oil and gas is the problem, I can't think of anything else that could have caused this.

When you bleed any hydraulic system, you pull the lever farther than you would when you normally use it, which pushes the cup seal farther down the master cylinder than it would normally go. Unfortunately, that part of the master cylinder is where all the crap (dirt, solidified components of fluid, etc) settles and sticks to the side of the cylinder, which damages the cup seal as it rides over it.

SO, you need to rebuild the master cylinder.
