Who /DIY/ here?

Yesterday
>rotating my tires, 2000 Tundra V-ate
>threading last lug by hand
>put wrench to it, gets halfway down and gets tight
>try to back it off
>gets tighter
>motherfuckitscrossthreaded.png
>say fuck it and decide to snap lug off and replace it
>take wheel off, put bolts in drum
>in a rush and forgot to release emergency brake
>drum gets halfway off, snaps back onto hub and cracks
>end up replacing stud and brake drum all because of a simple tire rotation

30 minute job turned into 3 hours, whatever.

Toyota stronk
>>
>>15216921
Ayy 2000 tundra here too. 192k miles
>>
>>15216921
So I should be nervous about people towing with this truck? Thanks for letting me know your truck is fucking WEAK. I rotated my tires Saturday too.
>>
>>15217065
No, it's pretty composed under load. It was my dumbass that crossthreaded the lug.
>>
>>15216921
>Cross threading from a hand started bolt
Wow, you fucked up to the 6th degree. I'm not even sure how that's possible.
>>
>>15217147
Seriously OP, I do tires for a living right now. The shop goes through about 60-100 cars a day. The last time a lug got cross threaded on was at least like over 6 months ago. There's no reason for a hand started lug to cross thread. You dun goofed.

I did an 80 mile shake down cruise on the engine I just built today.

Antifreeze out of drivers side exhaust.

Fuck my life.
>>
>>15216921
That bolt has been cracked for a long time. Look at the shear pattern.

Are you sure you didn't just over tighten it and it snapped? Seems more likely.
>>
>>15217147
Because it's not possible. Not that far. He threaded what he thought was threads then hammered on it because he's lazy. That is literally the only option.
>>
>>15217440
tundras have 6 lugs
>>
If you're bad at threads, rotate the bolt/lug/stud backwards until it clicks, and then thread it in by hand. If you still fuck it up this way, you just don't have the hand-eye coordination to work on vehicles, period. Give up and pay to have your shit not break everytime.

This is why you should need a licence to work on cars. So many people do shit like this but just leave it and say they'll fix it later

Getrag 6spd's of that year used ATF as lubrication from the factory.

It was strange to me that it went a good 4 rotations by hand before it got stuck on the lug. Maybe there was shit in the lug? It's the 5th lug to snap of this fucking thing. 2 tire shops sheared the other 4. Might be a Toyota issue.
>>
>>15218060
>>15218060
**stud to snap off
>>
>>15218052
"Lifetime Fill" aka it's good till your trans blows up. Been on the fence since changing fluid this late can kill the transmission. After driving it with RP Synchromax in it, it's well worth the risk. At 97k miles hope to see 100k more out of this trans.
>>
>>15218060
Likely the studs have been overtorqued in the past and threads misshaped. Taking it off, the lug and nut threads are misshaped to each other so no problem getting the nut off. But when you put the nut back on, you're likely not using the same nut to the same lug, so it jams against the mismatched threads. Not a Toyota issue. Very likely a not using a torque wrench issue.
>>
>>15218126
just do a fluid and filter change, dont have a flush done and your chances of fucking it up are pretty minimal

Changed the rear differential oil in my tracker last weekend. Had to take my time to clean the inside of the plugs out so my breaker bar could get a good grip and put some teflon tape on them to stop the very tiny leak it had. Other than that, it was more of a pain in the ass to drive all the way across town to a place that would take the old gear oil since autozone decided not to tell me they didn't when I bought my oil there.

>Twenty minutes to clean parts and change oil
>Hour and a half driving in awful post church lunch traffic to recycle stuff afterwards.
>>
>>15217065
I have never heard of a hub breaking
>>
>>15217424
I started changing tires at 14 and have never cross threaded any thing. Ten years of working with cars and 0 cross threads

We've all been there

We once took out the engine from an old Beetle buggy to replace the engine mounts with some new ones made from polyurethane, and after removing the engine, checking the clutch, cleaning up a bit and mounting it all back together we realised that we had forgot to put the new engine mounts on, and used the old ones again
>>
>>15216921
Pro tip. RWD cars don't need tire rotation. New tires to the front, old ones to the back. 2 new tires when rears are stuffed.
