What's /o/ say about mk6 GTIs? A woman locally is selling a 2009 in good shape, totally stock, 105K for $4800. Pic related.

maintenance records? auto or manual?

Manual. She gave me a list of the stuff done to it. The one thing I'm worried about is apparently these cars have timing chain problems. She's selling it now that the 7/100K warranty is up.
Her message:
fuel injectors 2011
all ignition coils 2014
brakes in 2014
starter in June 2015
new battery January 2015
wheel part (can't remember name- it was something unusual) in Jan 2016
alignment and filters 2016
regular filter and oil changes since purchase
oxygen sensor 2010

That pretty much sums up my experience with the MK6, too. Was in a Civic and 'upgraded' to a GTI. 100x more fun car but it needed a lot more attention than the Civic did. As long as you know this going into it, that doesn't sound like a bad deal (don't know where you are tho)

Wew lad

I'm assuming it's a typo but just in case, that's a Mk5
I daily an 07 Mk5 manual and it's a great car. Only worry I see there is the timing belt which you can do yourself, it's just a sucky job to do, but ultimately pretty cheap and not a big issue. I'd recommend replacing the belt with a higher grade one that you can find with a cursory Google search.

Ummmmmm, that's a MkV, not a MkVI....
One friend has one with a manual, it brakes down all the time; other friend has one with DSG, rapes it all the time, no issues found.

At 105k, that DI engine is going to need a thorough carbon clean.
Not a terribly difficult repair, but a required one beyond 60k.
Thats a mark 5 so its common to have the PCV valve fail and the diverter valve too. Check that she has replaced both of them with the up to date models from vw. Timing belt can be a bitch.

'09 US GTi doesn't have a belt. It's a chain engine.

>utterly rediculous statement
>no facts
you are the problem with the internet. GTIs are awesome cars.

My statement speaks for itself.
>buying a car owned by a woman
Equals poor oil change habits and beat to shit interior
>buying a Volkswagen
That's an insult to itself

What the fuck, all that in seven years. Steer clear and far away. What do you think you have to change in next seven years?
>>15205822
Ready to change clutch, maybe transmission. Bitches riding clutch all day.
>>15206583
Reading GTI forums is pretty funny. All that stuff is considered normal maintenance but these cars are "super reliable if you take care of them."
>>15207483
Awful.
I had VW once, never again.
How its even possible that injectors or starter would fail in such short time?
