They're unrelated the the Cobalt. You're thinking of the Pontiac G5.
The Pontiac G6 shared almost everything with the Chevrolet Malibu, and shared its chassis with the Saab 9-3. Fairly reliable, if a bit dull. GTP models could be had with a 6 speed manual, and the 2.4L I4 models I think could be had with a 5 speed stick, but those were the only models available with a stick.

Get a G5. I put about 100k on my 07 g5 and it ran smooth with nearly no issues whatsoever.
