why dont you have a meet in florida for a change

Because I'm poor

You could get one started for the Florida fags. Just imagine, an /o/ club in every state.

there was one florida meet but apparently it was terrible and that one guy just kept making fun of people's FWD cars saying they're terrible compromises

So I've got my replacement Corolla, and it feels good to be back on the road again. Being a nocar in Houston is like being in prison.

Which means this name is officially obsolete. Probably going to follow Spoderstang's lead and trip as Dagumi, since that's the only nickname that's stuck since the inception of /hou/, and having a Corolla means it's actually closer to reality than before. Hopefully no one sees it as hubris or that I think highly of my driving skills.

Looking forward to a photo op mini meet before the 17th or 22nd.
>>
>>15171873

Seawall and Old Port Industrial/Harborside are really comfy drives at night, at least. Especially if you do it after like 1-2 AM when there's no traffic.

>>15173242
I don't think Galveston's cops hang out outside of the city itself.

They'll shut down racing quick. Cruising, as long as you don't go crazy, they won't give a shit about it.

Unfortunately, that does mean obeying the speed limit in the city itself.
>>
>>15173242
Yeah, but Galveston doesn't ever have "minor" hurricanes. Whenever they get hit, it always wrecks the island and floods the crap out of it.

As an aside, I still don't have a job, two anons from a previous thread gave me a couple of leads, but no one's gotten back to me on either of them so I guess those are fucking dead.

Don't have a lot of money left, but I'm doing what I can on my end to find a job, but in my experience, at least around here, who you know is more important than what you know. All the jobs I've had except for one happened because I knew somebody. Meanwhile, I've put in 40+ applications in one day before to places I had no personal connections to, and not a single response.

It would also be cool knowing I got in somewhere through an /o/ connect, but that's just a bonus.

Anyway, /hou/-related point is, gas is going to keep eating away what's leftover until I find something, and if that takes too long, then I'm out by default.

Sorry for rambling/blogpost.

two words

staffing company

maybe youll be in a warehouse and get laid off kind of often but you will stay on a job because of the staffing company and youre going to have a shit ton of hours and decent ish pay. probably from 11 up to 14 starting then youll probably have to get familiar with a forklift and that's where your hourly pay will fly

a mean a Galveston cruise sounds ok, but its a pretty played out thing that truckfags and boomers do, we should do something more enthusiast oriented like a hill run.

>>
>>15177640
Aw shit, so no mad Zello comms?

You can pick the meet spot and I can give you a time estimate of when I'd be there. Then I could just follow you from there, or if your phone is broken, I can lead with the GPS.
>>
>>15177656
Yeah. best case scenario, I get my backup phone from my gs assuming my mechanic is still at work (not likely)
I go to boost and they're going to tell me I need a new sim card which will have to be shipped in.
Its high time we got a couple of 2 way radios for the crew.

on the other hand , boost mobile tends to have dirt cheap phones which are new as long as you don't mind having the crackhead model. so I might go that route.
>>
>>15177656
Lets meet up at home depot 45 and gulfgate around 8??
>>
>>15177699
6810 Gulf Fwy, 77087?

Estimate is 50 minutes If we're headed up north anyway, we could meet on the north side, but it's either way.

>>15177681
Yeah, Boost was the first to popularize the push-to-talk feature with "where you at?"

Cheapest two-ways I can find anywhere are $20, and it's only got an 18 mile range. Didn't realize they were so expensive. Most of them start around $50.

http://www.buytwowayradios.com/products/midland/midland-lxt-118.aspx
>>
>>15177811

It was voted on a few weeks back. We're meeting at happy tea house, doing a run on circuit of the dagumis, then meeting at an "empty parking lot" to chill as we leave
>>
>>15186807
but what circuit exactly? Also we just chill is not always a good. It will become boring. I can see the future, no seriously, I can see it.

For what its worth dagumi and I discovered something that seems more fun than the Livingston dagumi circuit. We ran FM 3090 near navasota and FM 149 north out of Montgomery. It's not mind numbing straight followed by the occasional sweeper like Livingston roads. The straights are short and the corners are tight. Especially the 149, which is a tight, close quarters, if-you-fall-off-youre-hitting-a-tree kind of road

I'll try to remember to add it to the next survey. If I forget just remind me

If we have a night meet where we roll out at 9 then that circuit won't be a possibility for many of us. That's a three hour drive after spending two hours to get there. Dagumi and I did 149 and half of 3090 (road closure) we took off around 8:30 and we went there did all the driving and we were back in Houston around 12:30 in the morning
>>
>>15188733
That's a long ass drive. Seems more like a special meet track than a monthly meet track.
>>
>>15188750
4 hour round trip vs a 7 hour round trip.. I think the thrills are more concentrated at 149/3090 than at the livingston circuit
>>
>>15188733
>>15188750
We'd probably just head out earlier so we get to the course around 8 or 9
>>
>>15188843
Hmm sounds good to me. To be completely I was hoping for something more local a bit like the Dagumi Circuit.
>>
>>15189102
The 17th is the dagumi course. We'll only do that one if it wins the vote for meet #4, and a vote for it will include an addition saying we would leave early to get there on time.

We put his old Trans am wheel on it. So now it's running 235/55 15 up front and 295/55 15 on the back. Still waiting on his roll cage to show up so we can weld it in. He already bought some cross braces and those need to be welded in too. He's really wanting to get it together so he can take it to one of our future meets. And do 24 hours of lemons. Maybe some scca races as well.

>I've put in 40+ applications in one day before to places I had no personal connections to, and not a single response.

What you don't see are all the other applications not from individuals like you, but are put in by agencies, head hunting firms, contractor firms, and talent agencies. It's a huge number. As for applications, my corporation gets over 500,000 applications per year.

Because of the sheer number, the only times that a live person reads your resume is if they know you or you have found a way to meet them in person (job fair, friend of a friend, common activity, public speaker forum, produce demonstration, etc). Otherwise, your resume gets scanned and categorized by a very capable expert system that not only scans for keywords, it tries to validate their context, automatically check other databases for cross reference, and then stores the info.

Some desperate people have tried the trick of gaming our system. They deliberately misspell their name a little bit AND their birthday or something else so that a company will have TWO or more separate listings in the database. They know when a supervisor has a job opening, that human resources dept sends over XX number of resumes out of the much larger pool. So by having multiple resumes, they theoretically will have more chances someone will see their resume. Before you try that, I point out that I saw a person from Nebraska do that. He misspelled his name and one other thing to make it unique. When I saw that, I made a note in the database that this person is possibly gaming the system which is unethical. I clicked NO and added my name as the reference to see for validation if an override was going to be done to circulate his unethical data. So far, years have passed and no one has asked, so his data has never been considered. We can train knowledge, but ethics is nearly impossible as it's a character trait. People can pretend to have it which is good enough, but genuine is best.

>I went and turned in the application, he said he would call Monday. I don't know if he got the wrong number, or ...
>I haven't heard anything.

Not that guy, but you should follow up without waiting too long. That's a standard thing to do. And remember, while many followups are fruitless, there's still a substantial number that do work because the person hiring is still debating who to get, and in your followup, you should be ready to continue making a sales pitch for youself as if it were a personal interview. After all, your application served as the introduction or "excuse" to generate this phone call. You can treat it as a simply hello didja get it goodbye call. Or you can use it as the opportunity to give the personal interview info that complements the written application.
