Miata boi's. I'm looking at a 93 that seems to have been taken care of for $2300 bucks. The only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is 246k miles on the motor. I've got about a grand kept back to have a new engine put in when the time comes, should I jump on it?

Do you have the ability to swap an engine out?
If not it's gonna cost a lot in shop fees.
Otherwise yeah 1k should be fine since you can get an engine fur like 250 dollars from a junk yard or eBay.
Also look into a poly bushing set to replace the stock old as fuck ones.
Energy suspension makes the whole kit.

I wouldn't be able to do it myself. I've heard of people having 1.6's swapped out for around 1k.

Too much money. Bring the price down a bit to accommodate the fact that you might want a hardtop ($1000 or less) and for replacing that engine eventually, plus all the other maintenance work you'll surely have to do.

I ask because 1.6 usually runs around 400-500 for a good running one in social, and they seem to go around that much on eBay, with harness and ecu oft adding more at times...if you can get a healthy motor though for $250 I would say that's not a bad place to start
OP here. Would I be better off just having it rebuilt maybe?

Nah...although it would be a sound investment. You should just really look into low mileage engines that have healthy compression across the board.
Thanks for the info guys. I've got some stuff to think about.
