did about $1500 damage to my 300 today...
A stick went through one of the radiators, didnt notice because it was only a small leak, ended up siezing the engine when it eventually over heated.

Damage is most likely new bore, piston, rings and con rod, probably a new water pump, possibly the crank.

Morning from Bongistan /dbt/

I've been pondering what bike to get next, I've got till September 2017 to decide so I've got plenty of time to think, but I'm limited on an A2 license at the moment so I'm stuck with my CBR500.

I've ridden bigger bikes, and know I want something above the 110hp mark, so maybe 120-140hp. I was tempted by a GSXR-750 but my brother is most likely getting one and I don't want the same bike. I was tempted by a CBR600RR ~2008, but I'm just not sold on it. My other thoughts were a 2003 Aprilia Tuono/

Any other contributions?

636, Daytona 675.
>>
>>15112622

A Daytona could be an option if I can find a used one for the right price. If by 636 you mean a Ninja 636, I'm really not a Kawasaki fan. I know the 636 is a great bike as my uncle has a 636 Anniversary edition which is okay, but I just really don't like it.

I'm on A2 too, honestly the ER6 is a little uninspiring to be honest, and the whole restriction process is a pain in the ass. Honestly if you're stuck on A2, get a bike made for A2 like the CB/CBR500, that's what I'm running and it's way nicer than the ER6 I learned on.
>>
>>15112824
I thought the ER6 was designed for the A2 with the restriction being (at least for the past few years from what I've heard) being nothing more than a chip to change the fuel mapping.

I did my Mod 1, and will do my Mod 2, on an '05 GS 500. Fuck I want one but I feel restricting it might be a pain in the ass.

if buying a bike on your restricted license the thing you should think the most about is resale potential and the bikes ability to hold its value

Just go for whatever is the most popular sporty bike for that licence (Ninja 300? CBR500?)

This. Also remember A2 regs change next year so that you can't restrict bigger bikes, so they'll lose resale value in terms of other potential A2 buyers.

Check for the obvious stuff (bent bars, scratches/cracks that indicate it's been binned etc), make sure it starts fine (hot AND cold) and runs smoothly at all RPM and doesn't pop out of gear at any point.

Another good thing to test for is to take it for a test ride, get up a bit of speed and release your hands from the bars. If the bars start shaking or the bike starts veering all by itself or doing any other funky behaviours it's probably seriously fucked.

Would it be a waste of tires? Or do they handle it well enough? What would be the greatest cons?
>>
>>15113430
You'd definitely want to switch to road tires before setting off.
>>
>>15113430
gearing not made for street
tires not made for street
seat not made for long rides
small fuel tank
no lights
>>
>>15113413
It wouldn't be comfortable and you'd need to plan a pretty decent maintenance schedule and budget to cover said maintenance but I can't see why it wouldn't be possible otherwise.

You would need a literal ass of steel though.

>>15113430
It would be a waste of a motocross bike, they're not meant for long haul touring at all.

If you were using a road oriented dirtbike it would be fine, you could chuck some road tyres on it and a comfy seat and have at it no worries.
>>
>>15113430
Depending on how far you'd go I would suggest swapping to some road tires. If you're going REALLY far you could bring a set of weights, a balance stand, some tire spoons, and a spare set. With a socket set you'd be able to swap tires on the side of the road.

HOW WAS KICKSTARTING IT?

Is it stupid to buy a new bike? I've been on dirt bikes forever so I wouldn't call it my first bike, but it's my first street bike. I'm looking at a cbr 300r for commuting to and from work daily and I wouldn't leave that responsibility up to anything in my area. I'm doing a grand down on the 4,300 non-abs model, am I going to get fucked or is the premium worth it for a brand new unmolested bike?

its nice to have a new bike since you know exactly what its been through, get a warranty and usually get some good deals on return visits to the shops too.
however are you willing to lose 1-2k on that investment almost immediately?

>>15113564
get that pipe and engine cases cleaned up m8
>>
>>15113637
My first bike (YBR125C) was lightly used but the rest have been new. If you can afford the devaluation it's very nice to have something you know has been taken care of.

My YBR put me off used bikes because there were a number of faults from it being improperly serviced. The most troubling was that the clips on the rear wheel bolts had been reused instead of replaced which resulted in one of them popping out at 30mph, locking the rear wheel. In hindsight, it's easy to say that I should have retorqued all the bolts myself but who really does that?
>>
>>15113637
If you want hassle-free and can afford it, sometimes new is the way to go.

However sometimes you can score a bike from say, 2008 with 8k miles for half the price. Used bikes can be good deals too as long as you don't go for the cheapest things available.
>>
>>15113637
imho it's stupid to buy a learner bike new: if you have experience with dirt bikes already, you'll get tired of it rather quickly and will have a nasty hit after just a year or two
If you want to buy new get something you'll keep longer

I'm able to afford it as I've been able to budget it out easily, as it stands I have 1700 in my fun shit savings account, so a grand down and seven hundred for gear, i got quoted at $90/month and that can easily fit in with my car insurance payments and whatever the biku insurance will be along with all other living expenses. I'm not into doing stupid shit on public roadways and can't afford trackdays as it stands so I'm not too worried about getting bored, if I do I'll just fuck around on the dirtbike innawoods. I just feel I don't know enough about street bikes to get one used that isn't a pos. I'm not worried about 1-2k depreciation because the bike in itself is cheap as fuck, I'd never buy a brand new car but with how small an investment the bike is I think I'll be okay. Thanks anons, expect me posting about my new shitbike in the next few weeks if everything goes well at the stealership

I always feel stupid when I try and pass a cruiser nicely, you know, sit behind for a bit, wait until they notice and move over, like most bikes do.

They never move over to let you pass or make it easy so if you're in a twisty bit with no straights you gotta pass around/into bends.

It's not hard cunts, you see lights in your mirror, you move over, wave em on.

nah it's not the braking, you can always feel downhill makes the front tyre work way harder mid corner and front end voodoo makes most people uncomfortable.

There's a corner that claims a lot of people on that road, downhill, right turn with bumps in it, always people overload the front around it.
