Are Jeeps trash? For some reason I have a feeling that they are but I have no idea why, people must have said it before. I'm thinking of buying a 1998 cherokee, what do you guys think? Planning on driving through the outback.

Honestly do it, I have had mine for 3 years now and I love it. Decent gas mileage, awesome torque ( as long as it's the 4.0 ) and unstoppable. I thrash mine on a weekly basis. Things to look out for are pretty simple/ easy fixes. My friends and I have all had to replace fuel pumps and I had to replace my clutch a few weeks ago. They also have a huge aftermarket community and parts are pretty easy to find

If you're using it for its intended purpose, no. Otherwise, yes.

My 2 Cherokees have served me well
My 96 Cherokee got to 212k miles before getting rear ended and totaled

How much did you get yours for? In my city I can find about 10 people selling a 1994-98 for around $3,000 AUD. No idea whether that's too cheap/whether it'll be dodgy, but they look good from the description and pictures
>>
>>15082936
Do you mean they're bad for city driving or that you just shouldn't go fast & furious in one

Picked my 99' up for 2,500 us with about 120,000 on it. They go from 1,800 to about 5,000 for a low mile here in commiefornia Mine has 2 inch lift, MagnaFlow exhaust and supposedly a rebuild at 100k and is fantastic for the dirt
>>
>>15082943
Oh and now that I think about it the starters can be a bit spooky, and as far as the body goes just make sure no one has beat the bottom structure to death. Panels with dents just add character and are easily replaced
>>
My. Other use to own a 90's Jeep Grand Cherokee. I think it had a V6. That thing went through 2 transmissions. But I always hear that from Chrysler products having awful drivetrains. Why is that?
>>
>>15082946
Yes.

this desu, anything made after 2006 is trash als

Well owning a grand cherokee was the first mistake. I haven't ever heard anything bad about the transmission going, that car must have been built on a monday.

Thats the Shafer Canyon Road. If you have any decent stock 4x4 you can drive it.

The XJ cherokee with the inline six is bar-none, very reliable engine

Everything else is Chrysler garbage
>>
>>15082938
My 96 Laredo got to 316k before the repair prices began to surpass the worth of the vehicle. I probably would have fixed it if it had 4WD and/or wasn't automatic. Pretty sure that engine would last to 500k.

Chryslers are trash in general
