Honestly if you wouldn't do stars and bars stars and stripes is the way to go. Rising sun has a different connotation in Japan than it does in the rest of the world and would be more in line with the normal flag here.

I've had four rising sun flags that I tie to my antenna. They've all been stolen either by ricers or in the last ones case an old fucker. People don't like it due to World War II and that's despite the flag still being used officially by the Imperial Navy and Self Defense Forces.
