You see, a truck can not only haul a (heavier) trailer and be used for loads you don't want in an enclosed, possibly carpeted area that's linked to the driver's cabin, but be converted into a shitty van when an open back doesn't suit your cargo.

Con: hard and potentially illegal to haul people

Where I live you can't haul that big of a trailer on a basic license anyway. Midsize vehicle (1500 kg) with passengers and cargo (500 kg) and its empty weight worth of trailer (1500 kg) behind it and that's basically your weight limit right there.

I own both a pickup and a van. They do pretty much the same thing.

One is only better than the other if your needs are very specific.

I drive the pickup most of the time because I'm too lazy to open the back/side doors so I just drop shit in the bed because its more convenient.

Also, visibility in the pickup is better. Less blind spots and I can actually see when reversing.

The van can carry way more cargo volume though, and I can leave something inside overnight and still get a good nights sleep.

Because you can't put an entire bedroom suite in the back of your van.

>vans are objectively better
For work vehicles, a van is better for certain trades. Just as much as a truck is better suited for other trades.
I work with heavy equipment. Most of the time Im the one building the roads, so I need something to get through rough and muddy terrain. In the US there just isn't a big selection of 4wd vans.
I also haul a drop in diesel tank for the equipment. No way would I want to smell that cooking in the back of a van all day.
Almost every day something needs moved around the site, and everything I work with is heavy. It usually gets loaded in the back of my truck by equipment. You're not going to want to stuff an escavator bucket in the back of a van.
Most everything that gets put in my work truck is greasy, dirty, or muddy. Having an outside box for that is handy. As far as security is concerned, who the hell is around to steal it? I'm not typically working in populated areas, and if they can reach back there and steal 700lb part, they can have it. I'm not going to try and stop them.
Again, I'm not saying that a van is useless. An HVAC guy, or plumber, or electrician would probably find a standard van to be the most practical tool for the job. In my line of work however it just isn't. This was decided by people who spend more time than me in my specific field, and they base recommendations accordingly. If you want to refute each of my points I suggest you talk to them. Because they are the reason my boss bought me a truck to drive.
>>
>>15007791
Greatest pickup of all time.
>>
>>15010033
but that's not really a personal vehicle though. . .

for a homeowner/weekend warrior, a fan is subjectively better, unless you live on a nice big chunk of land and need to go through mud and gunk to get shit done

in the suburbs, a van works out better, unless you're using it as a 4x4 then a truck or suv will always work better

or they are better off just renting a work truck for the weekend to haul their junk around, that way they don't even have to deal with the low gas mileage or the maintenance of a truck or van
>>
>>15005223
>there are van's that have the same open cargo
So....a pickup truck?
>>
>>15011988

>>
>>15012019

>>
>>15011966
Its a work truck, but im sure he drives it for other things. Just accept that Americans love their trucks, and Euro can keep their vans.
>>
>>15012040
and usually no carpet or interior panels from the factory, well past the driver/cockpit area

sure you could do that to any van by just removing that stuff but why pay extra for it when panel vans exist and are usually cheaper, because they are already beat up by tradesmen
>>
>>15012053
i'm american tho. . .

but i guess i grew up around vans and trucks and the vans always got more use and were more useful as a home gamer

there are plenty of tall objects/things you wouldn't want in the back of a van that could not possibly justify buying a trailer for. Plus I like being able to pop the hood and work on my shit. They top out at 9000 pounds for the e350 chassis. And that's with the fucking V10. An F150 can do 10k while being cheaper and using a much smaller engine.

yeah sure, but have you tried it? my 05 Silverado says 8k standard. I've towed 10k for 300 miles np. It just depends on how much wear you want your tranny to get suffer though. The suspension will usualy hold about 1/3rd more then rated. xD
>>
>>15016382

I've personally seen two of these econoboxes with 450 frames/suspensions. They were swapped. It dosent really matter anyway because typically the thsounads difference between the 350/450 is larger brakes, little more turning radious and a leaf spring or two. They say 9k, but that is underrated is my point. They will haul 10,000lb's. For a while. Maybe not 400k highway and 10 years, but they will do it. That is what you asked for in >>15016360

Meanwhile here in America, as soon as you get your driver's license you could be driving a vehicle towing a trailer with a combined weight of 26000lbs (11793kg), as long as it's not for commercial use (farm use exempted).

Everybody knows that in shit like this the first person to break traction loses. And those retarded brotruck tires won't get the same street traction as the TWARegg's road tires.

If the brotruck was on good street tires and didn't spin them to show off he wouldn't have lost.

Why not just strip the back of a cheap as shit minivan? Space for days, covered if needed. Rip out all the rear seats.
>>
>>15021168
welcome to my dad's van in the early 1990's that was sketchy as fuck too i had to sit on a rubbermaid cooler in the back, and a family friend at the time let him secure her baby seat, with a baby in to an unsecured bench seat in the back that would always slide around because my dad hoon'd on that little chevy astro

if you were in the san fancisco bay area and got cut off by a metallic red chevy astro in the 1990's that was probably my dad

but yea they work decently like that for carrying just about anything someone in the suburbs would need to do, it'll carry everything from 4x8 sheet goods, loose dirt, just put a trap down or an osb box filled with the stuff and cover it with a trap

i don't recommend the throwing it in reverse then slamming on the breaks to unload it though the box just disintegrates and you have to pick all that shit out of the dirt, and definitely don't do it in your driveway, it broke the fence and pushed in the garage door

but as a 6-7 year old it was awesome seeing it happen until you had to help clean it up
