I look forward to it. I just wish I had more vacation time saved up; using most of it to go to Colorado in August. There will be Miats. There will be braps. There will be lamenting that my wallet is not near so fat as I'd like. There will be good food and a few old friends. AND THERE WILL BE CO-82.

There's actually very little surface area to put the sticky pad on but they're so damn sticky this tiny triangle of flat bit on the raised bit of the chin section is enough to hold it on no worries.

I packed some double sided wall hanging tape on either side too but I don't think it does anything.

that valve rocker-arm breaking seems to be pretty much a standard problem with KTM and has been for years judging by countless forum posts.

if you ride single-cylinder KTM and are out of the warranty you should probably replace them every 3000Km or so.
>>
>>14976934
lol he bought one of their pianos.
>>
>>14976937
>>14976923
iirc the rocker arm issue was from the 2008 models and was fixed in the 2010 version, so you just update to the 2010 rockers and you're good, or vice versa

haven't looked at 690's in a long time though so I could be wrong

Ktm makes race ready bikes
Yamaha makes keyboards for children
Honda makes lawn care devices for retirees
Kawasaki makes water treatment systems
Lol
>>
>>14976945
nah its with 2014 versions as well.

should just make the head a little larger and give it another camshaft or create rockers out of titanium dunno.

Everythings better than risk trashing the engine.

hey dbt,

I've been browsing the motorcycle section of craigslist in my area, and I saw this guy parting out 3 different bikes:
https://charlotte.craigslist.org/mcy/5528812675.html
https://charlotte.craigslist.org/mcy/5528817028.html
https://charlotte.craigslist.org/mcy/5556944378.html

I'm wondering if these are stolen bikes and if I should alert the police.
Is it at all common for someone who works on bikes to part out 3 legitimate bikes at once?

Also, anyone's taken a bike to a shop to get it looked at before buying? Approximately how much was it? $100? Just know the basic stuff about bikes and would rather have someone take a look at it before I buy it.

Fuck. I had a semi-related issue, pissed me off big time. Turns out the float in my fuel tank gets stuck if the tank is draining too fast (WOT on the highway for a couple hours) and the gauge displays full all the way to putt-putt-fizzzz... Even counting the odometer didn't help me, budgeting 270km/tank, didn't factor in higher consumption at inefficient speeds & ran dry just past 200km.

Those are amazing bikes and will out perform plenty of shit riders while teaching you pretty much everything there is to know.

One thing to be known about the GS250 and GS300s is that they're hilariously lean out of the factory. Like the bike will backfire and refuse to go above 15mph in 5th gear. When you get it, turn the idle A/F adjustment screw out about 3-5 turns to fix the issue.

>>
>>14977697
Check the condition of the rubber boots that hold the carbs on. They're expensive and tend to get old and crack easily due to all the heat cycles they run through. Replacing them isn't anything difficult, but it's a bit of a hassle if it's the first thing you have to do.

Check for the lean cold running issue mentioned in >>14977691

If it's present, you should be able to fix it without pulling the carbs off though.

Check for rust in the tank, and under the exhausts. The exhausts on those bikes are one piece header to muffler so if the muffler happened to rust out any backfiring or anything will have holes popping up.

Finally, try to get it up to ~60mph. Mine had an issue where the little tab for the ignition coil on the left cylinder would vibrate off at 55+mph. should let you know that all electrical systems are well taken care of.

the engine is pretty much the biggest brake on your bike. let the clutch lever out gently, and don't always downshift. occasionally, i even upshift to engine brake, like coasting toward a red light or something. but coming in for a corner, downshift braking can drop a lot of speed quickly, leaving you at high enough revs to pull straight into your powerband & out of the corner.

I already have black gear. It works perfectly fine for the summers here, especially since I ride late into the year, so the warmth from the sun is nice. Besides, it's not like every other one isn't black. They just have gigantic logos on them
>>14978224
Fucking genius m8. Think of the street cred I'll get.
>>
>>14978203
>what look you going for?
Plain, not necessarily classic.
Regular fit, i like the dainese racing line but is made for an aggressive riding position.

>>14978212
I don't even need a 1 piece

something more casual?

How is soap going to remove scratches from a face shield?

>actually scratching your shield in the first place

>unironically wearing jackets
chicks dig scars ;^)
>>
>>14978279
soap turns the larger scratches into many more miniscule scratches and eventually into a surface so fine you can't see the scratches at all

I've been looking around at reviews on the 390 Duke lately. How is the throttle? I've seen people complain about it having a lot of play. Does your get really hot in traffic?

it does run hot. looking forward to riding on a really cold day. it will be like bringing a camp fire with me.
the clutch lever is something to get used to. you only have to squeeze it in a little to use it. every single other bike i have had requires full use of the clutch lever, but you only pull this one in about an inch and that's all you need. it's an adjustment to make, mentally, but once you've got it, you're good.
the throttle can be jumpy if you aren't used to it.
much like the issue with the clutch, once you are used to it, it's a non issue. just keep the clutch squeezed in a tiny bit if you are doing light on/off throttle, such as in a parking lot.

one thing, i am not a big fan of is the short gearing. to get to 60 mph, you have changed gears 4 times. just to get to 35, you are probably going to be in 3rd. 6'th gear is so huge.
>>
>>14978326
Friend got one and complains about the throttle being snatchy. New rider so dunno if he just sucks.
>>
>>14978349
lil' duke again... overall, i really like my bike, but i think i might have had more fun with the cheaper cb300r... i dont know... maybe. i know the quality will be superior on the honda, over my high maintenance indian bike.

that's how a properly adjusted clutch lever works pham
>>
>>14978353
he just needs to get used to the throttle and clutch
>>
>>14978357
Adjusting it like this is really convenient because you don't have to hold it very hard, but first time after dealership adjusted it like this for me as a part of safety check up, I dropped the bike at 0mph because I got used to the great area being close to the middle, and I released clutch too little due to muscle memory. I had zero doubts that I will give it enough gas to balance, until I didn't.

In general, it seems the deebeetee consensus is Yamaha, ktm fall apart, Honda and Suzuki are missileproof, and Kawasaki just is. Is this trufax? Are there exceptions? What about HD, Triumph, Ducati?

Bought new balaclava. Two actually, the other is a cheapo thing I got since I was already in the shop. (Center in pic is gift from friend for go-karts.) Tomorrow at noon is my 4th bike ride out of legally mandated 8 before the exam, expecting traffic exposure again. Hopefully I'll make less of an ass of myself this time. Please continue to pray for me. Blogpost over.
