Are corvettes good, proper sports cars?

Do they handle well?

I'm mostly interested in C5s and C6s.

Which one is a better performer for the price?

They're great cars if you can ignore the fact that most of them are owned by obnoxious elderly white men who frequent meets.

I don't really care about the fanbase.

Which generation should I look into more? I'm leaning towards the C5 more due to it being cheaper and looking better

if you just care about speed get a c5, c5 z06 if you want that affordable performance without needing a lot of mawds

dont even bother with the c5 z06 if you are planning to completly rip it appart and change everything though

it does look like a melted dildo

A C5 Z06 is some of the best price:performance you can get.

No way, the C6 is the best looking Corvette ever made.

you can just get coils, like some adjustable coils

you wont look back at leafsprings again

Couldn't you just add proper suspension? (or whatever the hell you wanted really) i think Matt Farah really boosted the Performance on his C5 and it wasn't even a Z.

C5s are one of the best looking Corvettes in my opinion on top of being in-fucking-destructible V8 sports-cars.

God why can't the C7s be that damn tough.

I think a lot of sports-cars in the 90s did (at least the RX7 did or I've heard people call it that)

It already has a proper suspension. It doesn't use typical leaf springs and it doesn't use them in a typical manner.

c6 owner here,
pic from watkins glen opening weekend last sun

yes they handle well. base suspension is way too soft though. i have z06 & zr1 springs & swaybars. coilovers are a logical upgrade but not necessary unless you're tracking it.

c5s are cheaper which helps if you're on a budget. c6s are a better car with more potential though. addons cost about the same for both cars with more performance return on the c6. then again, it's all in what you want to do with it and how much you want to spend.

protip: aftermarket seats. besides the springs & bars it was the best upgrade i've done. and i've heard the c5s seats are worse.

>>14899783
i'm not that old. and i rarely go to meets.

>>14899791
can be done. did it for a year or so when still stock. door windows freeze shut easily. but if you're coming from a miata you've dealt with worse.

I DD my c5z. Although living in so cal makes it way easier than most places to do so. Haven't driven a c6 so can't really compare but I would say c6 may have slight advantage in terms of daily. It's a slightly better c5. I absolutely love the shit out of my z06 and picked it over a c6 (ls2, ls3). As far as performance it tends to go ls3=ls6>ls2>ls1. That's stock though. Once you mod ls3 it's way better. Ls2 always seemed like the bastard in the ls family. C5z is best handling stock. And some people love and some people hate the frc look. I know some point I will own a c6, but a c5z has been "that car" for me since I got into cars.

Pic related. Mine on the inset and a fellow c5z owner I recently met.

Came with the corbeaus, they are the fx1 pros fixed back seats. Love them when I'm fully seated and for the twisties but not the best for a DD as the side bolsters are tall and a pain to get in and out of. That other vette has a4s. I wanted to sit in some before I bought a set and he was kind enough to let me try them out. Turns out he wants to swap! His is track only so works out for both of us.
Cars internally stock, just exhaust (billy boat) and cutouts before the cats (loud as fuck). Just picked this up so the 1st year is gonna be getting used to it and taking care of minor things. Next year I do want to supercharge it. Living in CA means emissions. Don't want to go through the trouble of illegal smog, did that with my full bolt on ls1 Camaro. How long have you had it? What's all done to it? Ls2 or ls3?

>>
>>14900368
Very nice. I'm very tempted to go that route (bolt ons, cam) but would hate to be sent to ref here in ca. nice numbers, bet it pulls hard. I think the ls6 can pull 430whp out of a cam fairly easy but would need huge cam or heads to get that high. That's why I want to charge. Cheapest $$/hp and smog legal. I would be ecstatic with 550 to the wheels. That's the "safe zone" for an ls6. How long have you had it?
>>
>>14900368
Also how do you like the Nurburgrings? I was thinking of getting those in machine face or gloss black. It's a toss up for me between those and some forgestars. I like the f14s but secretly want the cf5. I'm a bitch for a clean 5 spoke. What tires your running? I have nt05s out back but have a set of 305 nt555r waiting to go on
>>
>>14900408
Yeah. Upgraded but lost a smidge of power. First iteration gen 3 ls' went for 7 years! First gen 4's only made it three years? 4? I forgot how long they were in caddies. G8s too? Ls2 was a huge stepping stone for the ls3s. No hate for ls2, just got outdone real quick.
>>
>>14900446
You can easily make 500HP from an LS2.
They detuned it for reliability reasons.

Nothing beats those stupid flowing 300cfm LS3 heads though

did suspension right off the bat
the seats & wheels & power mods last year. also put in a mgw shifter that i forgot to mention. short, firm shifts.

a few ls3 c6s at the shop i took mine to also like thet s/c route. 700-800whp and they DD them.

How to tell if a car is a good, proper sport car in one question
>is it american?
>if no, then it might be
>if yes, then it's not
>>
>>14900527
I wish the c5 had the customizable dash. But we have code reader so I can't complain. I was thinking of picking up a mgw shifter with the lower billet box. Been waiting for one to pop up on the forums. Been to the track? You in Texas? I ask only because when you say the shop you went to has 700-800 whp daily c6s seems very Houston
>>
Whoops. Seems your in ny area due to Watkins glen. I would love to the vette to a proper track just need more seat time with the manual. This is the 1st manual car I've had.

Why are there no riced out Corvettes? Is it just because Corvette owners are all old and/or boring or does it have anything to do with the fiberglass bodywork?

PA. the shop is near philly, close to 2 drag strips. i saw they prepped & tuned a few cars and went to tx2k16... along with prob 1000 other 1000hp vettes.

was just at watkins glen, ny for their opening weekend doing grouped paced laps

i go to a few corvette corrals at imsa races each year which also do paced laps. will be at detroit, watkins glen, and vir this year.

i want to upgrade to a z06 before really tracking. i want the trans, diff, & oil coolers .
>>
>>14900668
That's for license plate. If your state requires front plate, you pull that cover and mount it there.
>>
>>14900668
You can replace it with a plate holder for markets that use front plates
>>
>>14900692
>>14900693
Thx! Thought it was something like that. But couldn't they have made it a bit more subtle/clean then? I think it looks weird like this without a front plate.
>>
>>14900676
Nice. I really want to get in the vette scene more. Wasn't much into it when I had my camaro, just kinda kept it to myself.
Yeah a c6z would be amazing. I'm hoping there's still some available by the time I feel like throwing cash at one. The person who I bought my c5z just bought a c6z. I'm pretty jelly.
>>
>>14900701
I get what you're saying. I do wish it didn't have as huge gaps as it does and was more of a panel line than a definitive fill in plate. It's too rounded and would be better looking if it was a sharp edge to sharp edge to eliminate gap. The front of a c5 is my favorite part of it. It took a few to grow on me but I love how there is almost nothing on the front. During day all you see is paint, no lights, no plates just body. I much prefer the hatch on the c6 over the c5. The rear looks way better on the c6. But I'm a bitch for the c5z/frc look so I like it better than the c6 back half.
>>
>>14899773
They're driver quality sports cars; meaning they can run fast but unlike the Italian stuff they can take actual high mileage on the odo without going to shit and with much cheaper maintenance.

They're just not exotic, and with the exception of the current one they look plain and boring.
>>
>>14900648
>This is the 1st manual car I've had.
Question for Vette ppl. How easy are these to drive in traffic? I test drove a 350Z and the clutch was super annoying, plus shit-tier visibility.
>>
>>14899773
C6 is like a top of the line C5. C5s are pretty good.
>>
>>14901809
>>14901809
Before this I drove stick once, for 1.5 hours 7 years ago. I had someone drove it home and after 15 minutes of start/stop in parking lot I was driving it. Took me about a week to say I was fully comfortable. Only stalled a few times in that week. Obviously mah torques in a vette help. Really depends on you desu. Once you hit traffic once you figure it out. Just is more of a hassle than anything. After driving out past L.A. on the 101 I feel completely confident. First time my left leg got a bit sore. Clutch really depends on what kind you got. Mines not too terrible but I can't comment as i haven't really driven other stick cars. The other one in my pic was tighter than my ex, couldn't imagine dailying it. I don't mind the c5 visibility. My previous ls1 camaro was worse. The hood was so long and took a long time to get used to where it ends as you never see the front, it just runs off. The c5 has a mini cowl naturally so it's easier to discern the front.
