I dont think anyone here owns a Bentley or can give you advice. Cool buy though.

Ready for your first repair to be more than what you paid for the car?
>>
>>14898523
So which one of those guys let you hold their key?
>>
>>14898535

Oh yeah, all my friends who bought bentleys and the like told me they run like shit and break fast then need a lot to repair.

It's ok though my cousin owns an auto shop.

>>14898530

Thanks man.

>>14898529

Did I over pay?
>>
>>14898564
>Did I over pay?
not sure of used bentley prices, but I'm sure you paid around market value. you're going to end up paying for it in broken parts

>It's ok though my cousin owns an auto shop.
3 months tops before you want out

seriously why didn't you buy a used luxury lexus instead? 35k can get a decent IS/GS/LS
>>
>>14898512
Don't ever buy a eurocuck luxury car that's over 5 yrs old. They fall apart faster than a 90s dodge

Everyone here is going to call you an idiot, but it's a good buy, especially if its a dream car for you.

Just be ready for a lot of repair bills, do a lot of preventative maintenance so that expensive stuff doesn't break.
>>

It's a Bentley, everything that breaks will be expensive.

Everything.

Cool buy though, OP. I imagine it'd sound pretty beastly with a good exhaust on it.
>>
>>14898695

Yeah man, I was driving it to show it off to my friends and it went 110 like nothing.
>>
>>14898512
Cool car OP. Hope you're rich. My mother has a 13 Continental and got a minor fender bender when someone ran into the side of her bumper and drove off. $21k repair fee. Be careful out there.

Buying a old used Bentley doesn't buy you into the Bentley club. Just like buying an old S class doesn't buy you into "that club". Rich people lease their luxury cars, very few of them would put money into a money pit like that, rich people are usually really cheap.
>>
>mfw op fucked up so badly
>mfw he is going to be paying 2x buying cost on repairs and maintenance alone

I hope this will be a learning experience that doesn't drive you into bankruptcy.
>>
>>14898512
I had a friend who took out a $20,000 loan to buy a used jaguar in high school and everyone thought he was an idiot and made fun of him but for some reason a $20,000 bentley is hilarious and awesome.
>>
>>14898904
I think they were making fun of him for taking out a 20k loan in high school.
>>
>>14898787
they dont even do that. their business leases it for them then the cost of the lease is written up as a tax deduction.

You didn't do that... wait is that a Bentley? Why the fuck did you buy a Bentley? Sell! Sell! For the love of God! Shouldn't you be able to make nearly $10k off it?
>>
Thats cool as shit but jesus the parts are going to bankrupt you.

If you dont mind literally throwing away 21k to look like a baller for a year or 2 thats an amazing car.

Most doctors make more than that, and wait until you find out what Wall Street guys make. I literally know people making that alone in their first job out of college.

>>14898980
Lots of them do this but a lot of the time it needs to be a truck.

Some people are just crazy rich and like to own their stuff. I know a guy who owns an S63 despite normally being pretty cheap relative to his income. He just knew he wanted to keep that exact car for longer than two years because the next gen might not be to his taste.
>>
>>14899733

I know truck drivers that make more then that, kek. 240k aint shit.

Nah it's not salvaged or anything.

I just bought it from a rich friend, second after I paid the guy he took 150,000 and bought another car that blows this Bentley the fuck out.

In any case though I'm pretty happy, although I'm a bit scared now with everyone talking about repair price.

Ahh I'll be fine.

British luxury cars are total money pits.

They're not particularly well-built and it takes how we will politely say "abnormally high" maintenance to keep them running.

Plus the Brits often do tard shit to over-complicate their design like a braking system that looks like it was designed by NASA.

Plus for bonus points parts will cost a fortune simply because they're Bentley parts.

That's why most don't even buy them new, and instead lease them for a year or two them dump them off onto someone else, and that's why they have such harsh depreciation.
>>
>>14900126
an owner operator with a few trucks can gross that much.

of course using yoru gross income when you are running a business is pretty shit.

That being said, 240k isn't rich as fuck.
>>
You'll be spending more than 20k just fixing the car if you plan to put any number of miles on it, and I'm not exaggerating a single bit.

These things are ridiculous money pits only fit for an occasional weekend drive. You take it out any more than that - or God forbid think you can use this as a daily driver - and you're gonna be wishing you never bought the damn car.
>>
>>14900966

> he took 150,000 and bought another car that blows this Bentley the fuck out.

>>14900126

Owner operators can hammer 250k easy kid. Heavy/specialty haulers make even more. A 13 civic and 2014 odyssey is what you should drive if you only make 240k a year.

Dont listen to these faggots. Its actually not that badly built. Learn to wrench on it and give it the best fluids and it should easily hit 150 before anything catastrophic. For your suspension what will fail first will be the bushings, the other shit is pretty well built.
>>
>>14905676
Please stop giving advice without prior experience. I used to work at a Euro garage in Utah, older/classic Bentley's and Rolls' came in all the time, each having major malfunctions that ranged from anything before hitting 80k mi. Learning to wrench on those vehicles isn't good enough since you must have special tools and patience.
>>
>>14905676

>not that bad

If we are working under the assumption that OP's parents are making a $500,000+ a year and have over $10,000,000 in assets, then yea, it's "not that bad." Otherwise it's fucking retarded.

I buy classic luxury cars as a hobby and used to own a '67 Rolls Royce.

If I were you, I'd list it on eBay immediately and try to make $10k.

It appears to be an Arnage; the last of the dated aesthetic, and a constantly depreciating asset.

Parts are expensive now, but the older it gets the more expensive it will be; think exponential increase.

If you intend to drive it, expect $10k for annual maintenance. If you don't plan to drive it, $5k.

If all you care about is the prestige, buy an early '70s model and do a 350 swap. It bolts up to the stock transmission. Then, replace the rear end/brakes with domestic parts and you should only have electrical issues to deal with. I recommend a Painless harness.

I was going to do this, but I bought a '78 Excalibur instead.

You were spot-on, in terms of how he should approach the car.

I would've advised that he keep it, drive it sparingly, and enjoy the car at its best, but I assume that OP is more concerned with the aesthetic and the "I own a Bentley" factor based upon the humidor and the champagne.

If I were still in the car business; I'm an undertaker, but I dabble in classic cars, then I'd drive it a little, pay for a high-end detailing, and get a quality photographer to take glamour shots of it for eBay.

White is not a desirable color for a luxury car; it makes people think "wedding rental" and can be a hard sell, but, with proper pictures and starting out at a dollar with a reserve of $34,000.00 you could make a tidy profit and pay to have a classic one built for daily use.
>>
>>14905755
If you knew anything about luxury vehicles then you'd know a nearly 11 year old Bentley will count as old. And congratulations, your knowledge of replacing bushings on Bentleys means nothing when it comes to tearing down other vital components such as the engine and transmission. It takes well over 11 hours of labor to remove the dash to get to simple shit such as the cluster wiring and heater cores on these types of vehicles. I've rebuilt a 6.8L for an Arnage, and a fuck ton of time was spent checking over every little clearance detail to the exact manufacture OEM specification, had to send back one OEM crank because it was defective since it gave way too much play, had to spend 2 more weeks awaiting another crank and so far, complete bullshit.

If you want decent luxury, you'd be better off with a Lexus or a Lincoln, not euro made shit.
>>

Man you would be an undertaker wouldn't you? I actually never thought of using some old ass Bentley for a restomod but it makes perfect sense for someone like you - and I could see myself even enjoying it. Where do you find rollers though? I guess you just look for someone who's fallen behind on the maintenance to the point that the car's been parked or perhaps stored. Wait, does this have something to do with the mortician business? Do your clients' widows barter shit like that to you? Weeeeeeird.

Anyway, I bet OPs friend gave him a deal on it because he wants him to enjoy it for a while and pay that bargain back in maintenance. I wonder what the best explanation will be for flipping it and/or how long the exact right amount of time/miles to drive it will be that it won't start getting loose but he also won't upset The Godfather.

It's a great job and, when I open my own funeral home, I'm going to use the Excalibur as a lead car in funeral processions and a Rolls Royce or Bentley restomod as a limousine; eventually acquiring a '59 Cadillac hearse.

As for finding a good candidate for the swap, eBay has a few in any given year; Craigslist is also a great resource.

Give me a city and I'll find a car near it that could be built for under $21,000.00.
