So I was in one of those median turn things to go into traffic and I kinda hit the throttle so not to cut off the incoming traffic . When hitting the throttle aggressively my front wheel (and thus handlebar) started wobbling mid lean into the turn to get into the lane. Any thing that caused it? Could it be because my tires were cold because I only rode for like a single minutes before I got into this incident?

Looking at getting a g650gs as my first bike. I want to take a trip from coast to coast and it seems like the best option for comfort on long straight roads as well as still being fun on misc dirt side roads. bad or good idea?

I'd personally want something bigger for highway speeds, since that will be where you'll be spending most of your time.

Depending on how big you are, F800GS or R1200GS.

i'd want something sportier too but for him the g650gs will probably suit seeing as he wants to go on dirt a bit too. though maybe something smaller for a first bike. new riders tend to struggle with heavier bikes too remember.

Not everyone is a poorfag, and not everyone needs to buy new.

I got my first bike when I was a poorfag, and I got a good deal on it.

>>14895216

I know, but I started on a 600 lb bike and I've actually taken it on dirt. Pic related.

Also why I mentioned it depends on how big he is, if he's a 6'6" 300 lb gorilla R1200GS will be a fine starter.

If he's normal sized, F800GS fine.

Then again, if he's a manlet, you're right, G650GS best. Size matters.

Those look like the adjusters just after the 90 degree bend behind the grip. You have to make those as loose as you can. Then you can feed the cable up thru the throttle housing and get the ferrule out.

Quick question, guys.

Are any of you short-sighted and need to wear glasses when you ride? How do you cope? Do you need specialised frames so they win't slip off when you're riding?

I haven't ridden a bike in years, and in the meantime my eyesight has deteriorated from passable to dangerous.

At least you're king of manlets. 5'9" is "normal" sized, it's the average American height.

I stick with my recommendation of the F800GS, not just because it's bigger, but also because it's a dual, whereas the 650 is a single.

Ultimately it's up to you and your wallet, but I'd get a used 800 over a new 650 for your purposes. You want smoothness (and size) for long distance pavement touring.

I live in LA with only a motorcycle and have done so for almost 7 years now. I manage by having a grocery store in walking distance and you can order just about anything else you can't fit on your bike/stuff down the front of your jacket/duct tape to your back on Amazon. Sometimes I cheat by using my girlfriend's car every other week though.

BBC News
Thursday, 12 March 2009
The teenage gunman who issued a chilling internet warning just hours before going on a deadly shooting rampage in his former school in south-western Germany was known by most of his neighbours and friends as "a normal, unremarkable boy".
Kretschmer had a passion for guns and liked violent computer games, people who knew him admit, but he never did anything to arouse suspicion in his home town of Leutenbach.

And hardly anyone could have suspected that Kretshcmer - who last year received psychiatric care - may be suffering emotionally or even having some sort of a split personality.

"He was a normal kid. Not aggressive," Eckehard Weiss, who had been Krestchmer's table-tennis coach for several years, told the BBC News website.
"He was quiet but he had friends. He was funny," Marcel Rupp, one of Kretschmer's friends, was quoted as saying by the Times newspaper.

"He told me he was interested in guns, but I thought in a normal way," Marcel said.

Possible motives

Investigators are still baffled about his motivation for the shootings.

There has been speculation that Kretschmer - described by some of his former classmates as "a loner" who never had a girlfriend - could have held a grudge against his school.

Some media reports suggested that he deliberately targeted girls - 11 of the 12 victims at the school were female.

Meanwhile, police revealed that they had seized Kretschmer's computer, where they found "games that are typical for someone carrying out a mass shooting".
Was he trying to prove something to his peers? Was he influenced by the violent computer games? Did he hold a grudge against someone at his former school?

Try as they may, the investigators may never know what happened to a talented table-tennis player who proudly held his trophies in school pictures.

that reminds me of someone

Hey /dbt/

So I recently bought my first bike.
I live in an Illinois suburb, btw.

I signed up for an MSF course, but it's not until June.
I rode my bike a few times in residential, and on the backroads a few times. Obviously, it's been really fun. (Almost hit deer, and even ran out of gas, had to turn on reserve. Cool experience.)

I want to be able to ride some more already, but I'm worried about the cops pulling me over and seeing I don't have my M1.

I could trailer my bike over to the DMV a town over and take the test already to get my license, but I don't know how tough it'll be, and also would like to wait for the MSF course, seeing as I'll get the chance to ride with other new riders, which could be fun, and ride a different bike.

So I'm asking, if between now and my saftey course, when I want to ride a bit, I get caught riding around without my M1, how fucked would I be?
I'm talking fines, drivers license suspension. Does my bike get towed, impounded? What is the risk in me riding around a bit without it? Please don't be mad, I'm trying to be a fuckhead in the riding community or anything.
I'm simply wondering if the cops would give me a slap on the wrist if I get caught. Something like "Ok man, you need to head home and not drive again until you get your license."
Or if they would seriously fuck me up and not tolerate my riding at all.
>>
>>14895683
why don't you try to get a learners permit? you can ride with one.

otherwise just ride dirty and don't crash and don't hoon where cops are.
>>
>>14895683
*I'm not trying to be a fuckhead.
>>
>>14895683
I'm pretty sure your bike gets impounded but it all depends on the cop.

>>14895690
In illinois you have to ride with someone over 21 who has at least held an M classification on their license for a year

>>14895690

That's not all sport bikes are good for. They're usually lighter and easier to move around than other bikes. Xr600 guy here. I'd be doing high way for the next 3 weeks, then surface streets only for on after that. I have 3 more weeks at the cc.
I will occasionally hop on the highway for 5-10 miles tops, to go across town. However once every month or two I need to make a 70ish mile ride one way. How will I enjoy that? Considering I rode a fucking 200cc 2 stroke on that route before I can only hope it will be better.

Loooooooong maintenance schedule(for a dirt bike), oil every 1k miles, I do mine every 800 in the summer, valve check every 5k. They're the locknut type so it takes about 30 mins. All the other stuff is wear and tare, lubing, cleaning eetc. I got about 45ish mpg taking it easy(once) and ~40ish when flogging it(99.9% of the time). Granted mine was totally rebuilt by the PO, so your mileage may vary.

>>
>>14896662
Starting as a groundman in linework is pretty easy if you have a class A and a tough backbone. You don't need a college education to even become a lineman. The work is tough and you can get some long hours, but the pay is really good and it will get you into the IBEW which is a great union that takes good care of it's men and women.

All of my previous jobs were pretty standard "kid" shit, like pizza delivery or food service. They took me quickly. You just get your class A, then go to the nearest union hall, tell them you want to work and they'll ahve you sign their books. Within about a month you'll get a call from them offering you work with a contractor and you go get hired by them and you're usually working the next day.

>>

It'll be ok, lack of wind protection will suck, but as long as you keep it 65-70ish you'll be ok, if you do end up getting it though, I recommend regearing it, an oversized tank, oversized pegs, and some better handlerbars(to help with vibrations). Check the bike for 2nd and 3d gear whine, if you hear it, the geara are about to blow. Also check for timing chain noise, they have issues with the tensioner going out too.

/Dbt/ Serious question Does anybody make bike sounds when driving a car? I mean like acelerating, shidting and downshifting.
>>
>>14896961
Hasnt rained either, sunny all day. its supposed to rain when Im taking my MSF course this weekend down in Hudson Valley Community Wish me luck.
>>
>>14896840

Super comfy, super hard wearing (I've come off and it had fewer scrapes than my leathers), takes weight off your shoulders so you can move on the bike, the R30 is fully waterproof...

Just great kit. Well thought out. Girlfriend also has an R25.

I knew this would be the answer but I was really hoping it wasn't. When I look at it it looks like so much and I feel like I'll fuck it up or not be able to put it back on. Am I working myself up?
>>
>>14897059
Yes. It's a simple carburetor. Just follow an instruction video on how to take it apart, clean the shit out of everything, and puit it all back together again and reseat the carb.

I did my first carb job when I had absolutely zero knowledge of motorcycles and managed to do a decent job. You will be A-okay.

me and my friend used to have a lot of fun on this thing, he got it as a gift from someone
>>
Okay I got the booze home by pinning the bag between my chest and the tank. Going to liquor stores on a bike is a great way to meet middle aged men.
>>
How autismal would it be to put some decals or other things of such nature on my bike, ie gas tank or fairings?

Generic things, like an edgy jolly Roger or a wolf head or some shit like that.
>>
>>14897104
Why didn't you just zip it up inside your jacket?
>or, you know, bring a backpack

>>14897111

>>
>>14897086
Why? The hard part is taking it off and putting it back on, not spraying some cleaner and letting it sit.
>>14897065
Ok cool thanks man. I have pretty much zero experince as well beyond oil changes and some electrical. I know how to diagnose things but fuck working on them. As I said, the biggest thing I'm sacred of it taking it off and putting it back on. Did you have to take the tank off?

Then it worked when I got home. It might have even been broken before that and I was hauling ass all day thinking LOL I HAVE A RADAR DETECTOR ITS OKAY. Glad that worked out.
>>
>>14897121
It gets cleaner if you use an ultrasonic, and you don't actually have to take the thing apart.
>>
>>14897118

Fug, that's at least semi encouraging.
>>
>>14897121
I did, but I think it could be managed without taking off the tank. Just makes everything way easier IMO

all right I try to find a used one.
I think I'll go with the 20lt or 25lt, are they water resistent or have a rain cover?

Its like you've never heard of the old bottle boner before. Step your game up.
>>
>>14897134
Ahh ok, too bad those shits are like 50 bucks. trying to save for college. Wouldn't those little peices it uses to clean get into the carb and furthermore your engine once you put it back on though? Come to think of it I wonder if an autoparts place would let you check out a ultrasonic cleaner.
>>

I wear my glasses under my goggles.
I wear a dirtbike / motox type helmet.

I have never had a problem.

Aren't they ilegal to have while driving? And do they detect actual police cars?
>>
>>14896887
Its a common swap, the 600r motor is exactly the same as a 500r, its just bored out. I'd say if everything is clean and it runs right thats a decent deal
>>
>>14897150
I see, I'll have to the the seat off anyway because I got that aftermarket ait filter so just another thing to add to the list tommorow.

so far:
clean carb
put on skidplate
put on air filter
take off upper roller
lube chain
put on countershaft seal (which includes taking off front sprocket)
and put on new magnetic oil cap.

good thing I have a buddy coming over to help with this shit.
>>
/dbt/ sometimes men whistle at me on my bike because they see my ponytail from under my helmet and assume i am a girl. it's one of my greatest joys in life to turn and look at their reaction as they see my mustache poking out.

Scrambler is a super little bike in person. Seating position is almost perfectly upright, and the meat of the tank ends up right at my knee caps. The tank also isn't that long, so it feels like you're really close to the bars.

The Yamaha has a bit more aggressive seating position, your hips are further back.

Only in like 2 states. In order to detect there must be a source of radar. So if a cop is sitting somewhere clocking people, I'll know up to a mile beforehand. Lots of cops drive around with it on.

Instant on or laser and you're screwed. All the cops in my city use laser so that is fairly annoying but I'm still happy I have one.
