Why do people feel it's necessary to own a large truck when they work at an 8-5 office job and use it as their commuter vehicle?
>>
Some people just like how comfortable a truck is.
I know a few people who are too tall to drive anything else.
I would agree, a eco shitbox would be a better option.

>>
>>14885274
I commute my truck to work every work day and use it to haul things like firewood, 4-wheelers, snow mobiles, and home improvement supplies every weekend. It doesn't make financial sense to buy a second vehicle to commute with just to save $1,000 a year on gas.
>>
>>14885332

>>
>>14885274

Honestly if you live in suburbia and you daily commute a truck you are what's wrong with America. I just assume anyone who does that doesn't give two shits about anyone else.

>>
>>14885365

That's fine but don't try to use financial sense as an argument. Most of these trucks are brand new $50k vehicles. Easy to buy a $20k commuter and a semi used but still nice pickup. Financial sense never comes into the equation when people buy these things.
>>
>>14885309

They're like a rolling living room. So damn comfy. Also fat and old people find it easier to get in and out of them than normal height cars.

On top of that there's image and tradition. Lots of middle class people romanticize being more outdoorsy than they are, plus a truck implies toys and leisure.

Goddamn fucking this. There are some parking spaces at the back of my campus that have "PARKING FOR COMPACT CARS ONLY" on a big damn sign for all of them, yet people with their fuckhueg brodozers still park in them, with their tires on both lines, forcing everyone else to either park within centimeters of them or not be able to park in the spaces next to them at all. I want to park so ridiculously close to them that they can't get in but it's not worth the potential damage to my car. Maybe if I had something that I didn't care about its cosmetics, but my shitbox is in too good of shape for that.

See pic related, the stupid angry ute is on the line and the curb. Not even close to being a compact car. I wish the campus police would ticket these assholes.

>literally noone else around
>only 5 spots visible
>implying the campus never gets busier than how it was that one monday afternoon
It's a lot worse in the mornings. I'll make sure to take a picture next time there's a bunch of retardedly fuckhueg four door short bed full size pickups in the compact spaces.

It's a space that is reserved for a specific type of car. If someone with a brodozer parked in an electric/fuel efficient car spot or if someone who is not faculty/staff parked in a faculty/staff spot you'd probably be mad at them for taking a spot that's reserved for you, if you fit into either of those categories.

Here's another pic just 4U so you can see it wasn't just the two of us in the lot. You can see other non-retarded people abiding by the rules and parking their non-compact cars in spaces that are not marked compact cars only.

You sound like someone who uses the left lane as your own personal cruising lane just because no one else is in it. It's called a passing lane for a FUCKING REASON. Same reason you shouldn't park your fuckhueg pickemup truck in a compact car space just because you can. It makes parking easier for people that don't own planet-sized vehicles made for planet-sized people like you.
>>
>>14887083
>That's why people buy them
That's why your old man bought it. Some people just want a big car because big car. Same reason some people want a fast car when "all you need is something that gets you from A to B".

It's not a matter of why. It's because you can.
>>
>>14887127
>parks non-compact car in compact space
>complains about others who do the same thing
Pot, meet kettle.
>>
>>14887234
It was technically a mid-size when new, but a new Civic is still considered a compact car and is now bigger than my Legacy. I would consider it a compact under today's standards. At least it fits between the lines with lots of space to spare, that tundra doesn't.
>>
>>14887241
>justification of why you're parking a midsize car in a compact space
The tundra owner could say the same thing, i.e., it's better parked out of the way, rather than in the middle of the lot where it would impede traffic. If it bothers you that much then go complain to parking enforcement until they do something about it, but don't act like you're not guilty of the exact same thing.
>>
>>14885308
not utes, you fuck. get your terms right. it's a fucking pick up.
>>
>>14887261
If a new Civic is a compact car and mine is smaller than it, why shouldn't my car be allowed in the same spot, regardless of what it used to be classified as? It would be considered a compact now, stop being needlessly pedantic.
>>
>>14887277
>said by the guy raging online about how one person parks their vehicle and how the definition of compact should be changed to fit your needs
You're the type that bitches about someone with 20 items in the 10 items or less line when you have 11.
>>
>>14887291
>definition of compact should be changed
It already did, I didn't have to think it. If X is compact then anything that is equal to or less than X is, by definition, compact. X has just happened to grow over the years with crash testing and pedestrian safety standards.

>Current compact car size, as defined by theUnited States Environmental Protection Agency(EPA), for the US and for international models respectively, is approximately 4,100mm (161in) and 4,450mm (175in) long forhatchbacks, or 4,400mm (173in) and 4,750mm (187in) long forconvertibles, sedans (saloon)orstation wagons (estate car).Multi-purpose vehiclesandsport utility vehiclesbased on small family cars (often calledcompact MPVsandcompact SUVs) have similar sizes, ranging from 4,200mm (165in) to 4,500mm (177in) in the U.S., and from 4,400mm (173in) to 4,700mm (185in) in international-based models.

1998 Subaru Legacy wagon dimensions:
>184-186″ L x 68″ W x 57-63″ H

It's legally a fucking compact car, goddamn. It's less than 187 inches long, which is the maximum for a sedan/wagon by EPA standards.
>>
>>14887326
Kek. Thanks for the entertainment dude. Be sure to stand around cars and take more pictures of them parking where you think they shouldn't next time. Quite the proactive approach, I'm sure that Tundra won't be parked there anytime soon.

>>14887398

>>
>>14887407
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a "compact" car as measuring between 100 cubic feet (2.8 m3) and 109 cubic feet (3.1 m3) of combined passenger and cargo volume capacity.

Passenger Volume (ft3)95.5
Cargo Volume to Seat 2 (ft3)36.1

Right from your source. Checkmate lesbian.
>>
>>14887446
That's for sedans. Station wagons are classified as small <130 cu.ft and midsize at 130-159, if you'll look down about 100 more pixels. Admittedly it's toeing the line, but don't forget the GT has a fullsize spare and the outback has a donut, so the cargo floor is lifted about two inches. It has less space than that.

Regardless of that, it still fits the outer dimensions of a compact car. Don't forget it's going to seem roomier inside because modern cars' pillars are a lot thicker.

My grandparents had some land and an old cabin in the woods which almost all my family goes to and spends time together whenever there's a long weekend or holidays, which i never attend to because its really rough and my car wouldn't make it.

>and i've never wanted to bum a ride

I'll make good use of it.
>>
>>14885274
Trucks are cozy, the heavy duty components take abuse like a champ, great power, perfect for those that live out in the woods but commute to the city. Other pluses are weekend warrior shit, because a 2200sqft house on 60 acres isn't going to unfuck itself after 30 years of neglect.

Why do autists who don't have any friends buy 4 door sedans that can seat 2+ people? Why don't they just buy an old moped?

Trucks are pretty damn nice for winter, you can slide into a curb doing 80 kph and keep going or hit a ditch and have a slight chance of getting out with 4x4. Do any of those in a small car and you're looking at a tow truck and a $5000 repair bill.

I forgot to add, truck beds make for PERFECT shooting platforms
>Roll out blanket for maximum comfy
>Brass lands in bed
>Bed is perfectly flat
>Gun shit is ready in bed, just lock and load
You will never know the feeling of rolling out to your massive field, rolling up your bed cover, and popping steel targets at 400 yards.
Just don't try that with a 50 cal, the muzzle blast will blow out your tailights and shatter windows.

People in the USA just really love trucks. I personally think they are stupid as fuck if you aren't using them for work, 99% of the faggots who claim they "need" their truck are straight up talking out of their ass.

I use it as a way to know if someone is a dipshit or not. If you see them DDing a big ass truck, you know they are a fucking dipshit.
>>
A big ass truck kept on veering into my lane, I drive a lexus IS300. Finally at the red light I told him how I feel and spit on his gay ass truck; he got really mad and got out of the car and tried to open my car door (my doors were locked).

I waited for him to back off from m door, grabbed the bat from my backseat, then smashed him in the head with a baseball bat (it wasn't a clear and direct hit, he put his arm up to shield his face). You guys should have seen how loud his kids were crying & hollering. I never expected there to be so much blood when you hit someone in the head. This happened in Orange County, California. There are a lot of closet homosexuals who drive big trucks here.

Removable ball hitches cause thousands of deaths on the highway each year. Ever seen one of those pop out at 80 MPH and bounce into a windshield hitting the mother of a family of four in the face and completely destroying her beyond recognition? Then you pull up to help and all her kids are screaming and crying as she gurgles her last few breaths and meekly paws at one of her ruined eyes before dying?

>such is life for glorious EMT

seriously, fuck each and every asshole that leaves the hitch in place while not in use. That's just pure fucking carelessness. Also, just remove his hitch and steal it, then do it every time you see him parked with a new one until he learns to keep that shit in the cab when not in use.

The Equinox was bought for hauling my tools around to my job (I avoided getting a truck because I'd be constantly hauling lumber and shit in it for work at no additional benefit to myself aside from being paid to drive instead of dig).

I drive the Equinox nine times out of ten because it has air conditioning, a good sound system and is comfortable. The Toyota is driven at night to the grocery store.

The truck is an extension of ones own inabilities in their life.

I'm not sure what you meant by his. Are you saying having your tow hitch ball come loose and go flying through someone else's windshield isn't your fault even if you did secure it? I've gotten the gritty details on a lot of court cases revolving around our collision and response scenes to know that the majority of the people who lose a tow hitch and have it kill someone go down for:

Negligent homicide and
Involuntary manslaughter.

If that is indeed what you're saying, then the only thing I have to say in response is you may think you're being safe, but dotting pins come loose all the time. The only safe way to transport a ball hitch not in use is inside the cabin of the vehicle.

I need the capability about 10% of the time when I'm plowing or moving palettes of mulch or Innawoods, and the other 90% I'm on the roads being judged by you fags
Also with the long wheelbase, long travel suspension, lazy V8 and 6 speed, trucks make great highway cruisers, which is where I do 70% of my driving. Plus it's slow, so I get less tickets.
>>
>>14885274
there is more sense to it than you realize. boomer faggots made 6L engines normal. it was the only way to get up to modern speed limits. somehow this stuck around due to production limitations. its easier to use the existing supply chain of available engine blocks and parts to build new cars because fuck retooling the factory. now the most popular cars still have these engines or slight variations with tack on mods.

so now the most sensible car to buy is a massive truck because dat reliable engine that's been in production for 50 years. you'd be mad not to own one compared with other platforms.

being the most popular car, parts are everywhere. you can literally go to a junkyard and drop a 30yo engine into your modern truck if you wanted to do so.

so now if you want to into performance vehicles or just have a car that mechanics will be familiar with or just cheap parts incase it breaks, you need to get one of these. modern engines have shit tier parts like VVT control units that cost a thousand dollars and need to be replaced every 50 000km.

>>14902201
this isnt true at all. trucks are about utility. you've never needed to repair anything so I can see how it might be hard to understand that fitting a 6m length of conduit, pipe or timber inside a compact sedan is hard. but see, hardware comes in standard sizes. sure you can get it cut for you but really its easier to just turn up to a hardware store, load it on the back and cut it yourself at home.

If you are only going to own one vehicle, a truck is a pretty versatile one to have.
Good for helping buddies move and other random shit.
Leaving the tow ball on and parking in a compact space is kind of a dick move though.

Truck owners have tiny peepees and hate vehicles made for performance

Obviously not, or you would be having panic attacks every couple of minutes on the highway. You do realize the truck in question is made out of a commercial Kodiak truck, right? About $60,000 for the base truck and then a whole pile of custom shit. 150K total cost for that rig wouldn't be surprising if everything was bought retail.

> tfw drive dented shitbox and purposely park as close as possible to brodozers so they can't get into their trucks.

Couldn't be more untrue. Well at least where i'm from all the spoiled kids have highschool parking lots FULL of brand new half tonnes decked out with awful matte black wheels covered in fake bolt heads and stars and shit... aswell as spring spacers.. Yes there are tonnes of stance millennial shit birds, but even that's more of a niche market than millennials in mall crawlers. I like trucks, I had to drive them at different jobs when I was younger, And i never question my trades working friends owning them because they have a bed full of tools and park them at a construction site every day.
