I've been led to believe that all American cars are poorly built shit heaps.

How accurate is this stigma
towards GM, Ford, chrysler?
>>
Buick is solid. Top 10 brands in the world according to Consumer Reports. Better than Toyota
>>
>>14845062
very accurate.
>>
>>14845062
GM is really dependent on brand, basically Buick and Cadillac are good and the rest is shit.
Ford is shit.
The entire Chrysler group is definitely shit.
>>
>>14845062
Well, Chrysler is definitely garbage.
>>
>>14845069
>>14845116
Why do people think Buick and Cadillac are any different from anything produced by GM?

All their models are literally rebadged Chevys with fancy headlights and some chrome instead of plastic.
>>
>>14845135
Because they aren't, and because the various studies that have been done have proven so.
That being said, if I'm buying a luxury car it's sure as fuck not going to be American, or even Japanese, so the point is really moot.
>>
Traditionally true imo. Parents bought a Chevy (Holden) Suburban for some stupid reason, and the build quality on that is bloody awful.

And would you believe this plastic fantastic car^ is from 2007, not 1997. 2007. Amazing haha

Apparently Yank cars are good these days though so who knows
>>
>>14845062
not really, it's very easy to make cars not shit these days
>>
>>14845062
Ford is good

I can say that I rented a Chrysler 200 on a California trip last year. One of the worst cars I've ever had the misfortune of driving. Terrible interior quality and wonky transmission. Immediately regretted not choosing the Corolla or Hyundai offering from Enterprise.
>>
>>14845140
Buick's lineup consists for a large part of rebadged Opels.
>>
>>14845224
>but muh Shaq
>>
>>14845212
Why the fuck did you pick the chrysler? The corola would have been 100000x more fun and even looks less retarded
>>
>>14845231
>Corolla

>/o/
>>
Anybody who calls every car by any country shit is just a moron who clearly has no idea what they're talking, shit even Korea made a couple passable (read: not good) ones.

Ford is overall decent now, Chevy is a mess (Impala/Camaro/Corvette are good), no idea what's going on with Buick, Cadillac is good and worth buying now, Chrysler makes a couple half-decent cars (new Challengers/300s/Chargers) and so on.

Absolute horseshit
The interiors between 1995 and 2009 where fucking horrid but mechanically they seem ok if their not a Ford or Chrysler/Dodgey pos

i have a 2001 Commadore Calais trim which is basically a tarted up modded 1997 Opel Omega B with a v8 stuffed in it and some mad max mods to the suspention and chassis with a 4l60e trans from GM (hopefully us made could a yankfag confirm?)

IT has the nicest interior ive ever been in for a car its age and considering it costs 85k aud+ when it was new i'm not suprised.

It has all the options except for leather and memory seats i think
>>
>>14845288
As for the cars I listed, assume last 5 years or so.
>>
>>14845062
Ford got way, way better in America post-recession.

GM is still mostly shit except for the occasional Buick.

Chrysler is still shit except for the occasional cheap, but those Renegades will surely cost a lot to maintain despite what good things they have going for them.
>>
Does anyone here have any actual experience with an American car built within the last 5 years?

Does anyone here have experience with a Euro or Japanese car built in the last 5 years?
>>
>>14845062
>all American cars are poorly built shit heaps
and consequently death traps, yes.
>>
The chrysler jeep dodge thing is FOR SURE shitbox. I've encountered more problems with these than any car ever. Older jeeps not too bad but anything modern is a complete shit heap that's impossible to work on
>>

American cars, the possible exception of any chrysler made before 2008 are no less reliable than their japanese counterparts, they simply don't tolerate piss poor maintenance as well as a japanese car.

Pic related, on original engine and transmission. Not one single major problem.
>>
>>14845140
>All their models are literally rebadged Chevys with fancy headlights and some chrome instead of plastic.

Your ignorance is amusing.

Or your baiting is bemusing.
>>
>>14845062

There are 3 or 4 American cars that I would probably buy before foreign made

Volt/Bolt, Camaro, Mustang, Model 3, model S, ATS, CTS, ELR, not counting trucks.

Honestly the only bad American cars are Fiat/Chrysler
>>
>>14845062
Chrysler vehicles are trash. GM just has shitty management.
>>
>>14845411
because of muh fanboyism
>>
>>14845517
>Honestly the only bad American cars are Fiat/Chrysler

And Daewoos. Don't forget the Daewoos. First gen Cruze was all right (probably because Opel had its hand in it), but the new thing....ugh.
>>
>>14845140
Buick and Cadillac actually aren't chevy rebadges, pontiac and Oldsmobile were, thats why those brands don't exist anymore. Consumer reports typically ranks Buick much higher than chevy.
>>
>>14845482
For modern cars, yes. Older American cars were durable as fuck and could be safely neglected, that's not to say they were reliable by any means.
>>
>>14845367
I have a 15 mustang gt with 9k on it no problems so far :^)

>>
>>14845548
The mid to late 90s and early 2000s were bretty good desu. Anything too close to the 80's was a piece of shit.
>>
>>14845062

American stuff is generally good for the price you pay. They generally last with basic maintenance, the interiors typically get made fun of by Eurofags for being not as fancy as German cars but you have to bear in mind the price difference.
>>
Chryslers fine, its mostly a reddit meme when it comes to people saying they're bad. Chargers, Challengers, 300s, Magnums were all very fun and hold up well. Dodge trughs are bretty gud, too, but mostly any V8 truck is going to be a reliable workhorse. The nitros and avengers were souless but they seem to have a lot of happy owners. The new darts were wonky with a certain engine option that escapes me.

200s were trash though from what i have experienced, the 4cyl ones at least. Then again, 4 cyl, who cares.
>>
>>14845621
This only applies to US. American cars are fucking expensive in Europe.
>>
>>14845411
It's not. Mustangs run forever no matter how many mangled corpses are clogged in the radiator and the F150 is the best selling vehicle in the US.
I would assume other models are just as good, after all 95% of police departments here exclusively use fords for cop cars.
>>
>>14845153
That's not a 2007 towncar. I own a 2007 towncar and the interior and radio are much nicer. Still has retro styling, but thats by design.
>>
>>14845652
>American cars are fucking expensive in Europe.

>>
>>14845794
Not him but leather in non-6 figure cars is for poorfags who want to feel like they're not poorfags. It's uncomfortable as fuck and requires a shitton of gadgets just to be tolerable but still less comfortable than alternatives
>>
>>14845809
>leather in non-6 figure cars is for poorfags
>trying to rationalize why his car doesn't have leather
>>
>>14845809
That's a really long winded way of saying you're too poor to afford leather. Air conditioned leather has become affordable, and is by far the most comfortable seating arrangement.
>>
>>14845829
>>14845832
>g-guys my car has leather look how rich I am f-fucking poorfags
Also the QUALITY of leather in sub-6 figure is abysmal and only really exists so aforementioned poorfags can feel like their car is more expensive than it is.
>>
>>14845838
Lol. Dude, the only person talking down to people is you. You're the one pretending like you're too good for leather unless it's in a Rolls Royce.

Yes, I imagine certain kind of people find irrelevant things funny...

>>14845755
Mate, would you be so kind and actually check the prices? That'd be great, thanks.

I'll help you: I live in Czech Republic and I can buy a 535i sedan for 1.467.700 CZK (MSRP), which is roughly 61k USD. Do you know how much is American MSRP for a 535i sedan? 56k.

Now if I wanted to buy a Camaro or a Corvette? Too bad, pic related.

But wait! Mustang is for sale here. Let's say I'm poor and want an EcoBoost Mustang. The price? Only 40 fucking k USD.

So kindly screw yourself with your "euro cars are expensive in the US".

Most americans like american cars. You're on a japanese anime discussion board, don't you think the sample's probably a little skewed?
>>

I said many, not most. Many Americans do prefer foreign cars. Why is this such a controversial statement?

2000 Buick LeSabre.

Oil change ever 3k and a trans service every thirty. Finally the transmission gave out at 545k, and sentiment notwithstanding, a car with half a million miles on it isn't worth dumping fistfuls of money into, even though the engine still ran like a top.
>>
>>14845062

Chrysler a shit. except for the new Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Ford/GM is ok now probably.
>>

many americans molest children too. That doesn't mean the standard for america is diddling kids. It's a niche opinion at best.

Terrible example. Do you really think the portion of Americans who molest children is anywhere near the portion of those who prefer a foreign car? This could be one of the most idiotic arguments I've heard.

>It's a niche opinion at best
Just not true.
>>
>>14845062
American cars are varying degrees of "what the fuck, this actually works!" and "what the fuck, this actually works?"

All of the big 3 have had their best sellers and their terrible shitboxes.
I for one have always like Chryslers of almost any age, aside for the ones ruined by Benz, fuck those. 300 can stay though, so can the "new" 200.

Case in point. i wish whenever they struck something that worked they stick with it. the Saturn S series cars were reliable and great all around. once they had that they should've kept it and did like Honda/Subaru does with its cars. build on top of its platforms and engines even if they are nearly a decade old and just keep refreshing the exterior/interior for as long as you can.
>>
>>14846087
Same for Chryslers K cars. Sure they were shitboxes in the beginning and shitboxes through their life, but towards the end they actually managed to be very nice shitboxes and after they worked out the problems in the engines, even the ridiculous turbocharged ones were bomb proof. Like, the later turbo engines just cannot be stopped if you as much as think about maintaining it.

Anon I just bought myself a 93 LeSabre. Right at the cusp of 80,000. I will treat it well. Hopefully it lasts like yours.

>>
>>14846680

There are a couple of things that can go wrong depending on where and how you drive, but for the most part, if you don't abuse them, the internals will run strong for many, many miles.
