Why is carmax so based? Yeah, it's a little costly, and they give you shitty trade in, but if you're just buying a car and paying cash up front, it's so based
Carmax is great for people who don't mind having their wallet raped for the sake of a perceived convenience

Have you checked out Vroom? Free shipping anywhere in the united states. FREE. SHIPPING. Plus you have 250 miles or 7 days to try the car out and if you find something you don't like or just change your mind, they'll give you all of your money back and come pick it up again. Free.
I would have bought a car from them if they had exactly what I was looking for, but I was being picky and eventually found what I wanted on a dealer lot a few hundred miles away.
I got my car at Carmax. :D

Have a close friend who works for them here in NC
Pay is fixed commission with Carmax. 160 per car, 100 for extended warranties. There is no financing/back end with them. They do direct financing, so the actual banks handle the financial side of things, the actual dealership doesn't do shit with it

It's good for lazy people who don't wanna deal with private sale. Just know you're not gonna get a great deal. It's the GameStop of automotive sales.

Carmax might be better than your local brand dealer because they ship cars all across the country so they can give you a better price on some things. However they offer no cash discount like most small dealers will. If you've never bought a used car and don't know how to haggle or inspect it then it might be good. If your a season shitbox trader they are a horrible option.

Sounds like beepi or shift in California

So Carmax is advertising on /o/ now?
I love carmax.
Don't get me wrong, I'd never buy from them, but they are great for window-shopping. They make it very convenient to go and just fingerfuck or even test drive several different models you might be considering without any hassle or delays. Only delay I ever experienced was when my 'salesman' had a broken foot and had to find someone else to pull a manual car off the lot for me for the test drive.
So go to carmax, spend a few hours exploring your cars of choice without some faggot getting anxious about 'tire kickers' and then go somewhere else to actually buy a car.

You can find just about any car they sell for a better price elsewhere.

That's fucking hilarious. NADA market value on that Escape is 5,350
KBB puts fair market at 4,010 to 5,843
Black Book sets fari retail at 4,445
Granted, this is what happens when your entire business model is predicated on offering sub-prime auto loans to high risk individuals
Every market study ever done with car sales has shown that no-haggle/no negotiation pricing results in people paying a higher average price for vehicles
