When I went to the BMW dealer to pick up parts for my god machine E36 M3 and sat in a $90,000 (USA dollars) M4 that felt as big as a fucking 5-Series.

The Alfa is more expensive, less practical and actually slower than the M2. Also very flashy when compared to a BMW.
And the M2 has a nice inline six engine, and it is turbo too.

How's that low bar? Alot of cars feel like you're driving a fucking van with how low you can get the seat even in its lowest position, and some cars you can't get the wheel close enough. BMW's I find you can always get comfortable while driving.

Fairly recently, but I'd say it was gradual and had signs of it as early as the '80s then they were back it at in the early-2000s. By the later part of the decade their reputation for being douchemobiles for people that can't drive was solidified.
