Which buy, /o/rangutans?

I live in a place where there's snow 5 months of the year, and I play in a band so I need the cargo space, so the choice seems obvious, except for

>muh rwd.
>>
FiST is more fun
>>
if you need cargo space the fist isn't gonna be fun. Might like the focus st more, although the fiesta is more fun to drive. Either way, get snow tires.
>>
>>14809622
Get some kind of wagon if you play in a hatchbacks don't cut the space requirement of amps and drum kits
>>
>>14809637

Suggestions? Budget is 18k. Would rather buy from a dealership than used because of irrational wife fears that I'd rather appease and get laid than risk and be fucking doghoused.

Bonus for finding me one at a carmax. I work at a carmax.
>>
>>14809655

Fuck, and by used I mean private. Used from a dealership is what I want. Damn my pre-coffee communication skills.

> Cargo space
The back seats collapse, so it's got more room than the sports car.
However, you can't fit a lot in a Fiesta. Focus is good for packing stuff in; I manage to load mine up with a surprising amount of crap even before putting the seats down.

>>14809637
Hatchbacks have more space than a regular car, though.

If it has to be one of them then the only choice is the toybaru, if not look for a Quattro estate.

It's a guitar amp, a pedalboard, and two guitars. I don't need to fit the world in there. I'm basically worried about enough room that the metal corners of my road cases aren't ruining the interior.

The amps not even huge, it's a vox AC30.

Pic related, vox size.

Still too big for the FiST, though? I haven't been able to check one out in person yet.

As long as you're not a drummer with a huge kit the BRZ/FRS will have more than enough cargo room. I also live somewhere with snow for most of the year and I can confirm the FRS atleast, handles snow incredibly well as long as you invest in good winter tires.

Don't know much about how the fiesta handles, but it's gotten pretty good praise from some places, I'd go test drive both if I were you, can't really go wrong with either.
>>
>>14809752
Gonna second Volvo wagons, mainly 850/1st gen V70 and older. The 850/V70 are available with glorious i5, and the older models (200/700/900 series) are RWD for maximum hektik.
>>

That will go into an BRZ no problem, and be more fun than a FiST,

Yeah, RWD has some charme, but as a DD you can drift and toss the FoST (and i guess FiST) more than you would ever dare on public roads.

I like my Fiesta quite a bit, you'll have no problems fitting your music equipment in the hatch and they handle snow like a boss. Insurance is cheaper on the Fiesta too, and they are incredibly reliable. Very good aftermarket support...

Im always hesitant to buy used, especially turbos can be easily mistreated. Iunno, I got mine so cheap that it lost close to no value in two years.
If you can, make sure to get a 2014. It has the improved engine mount but not the facelift/smaller cold air intakes.
>>
>>14809924

Thanks familia.

Never owned a turbo. Anything special to know?
Do you put snow tires on it?

Just test drive it. I like almost all aspects of it. Sound (quite when cruising and deep gargling induction noise when you floor it), comfort, quickness of steering, space.
In the end it comes all down to "Does it feel good?", doesnt it?
>>
>>14809972
Sounds like a perfect DD desu
>>
>>14809979
Well in 4th on the autobahn this thing also can press you into your seats and smoke 99% of whats "blocking" the fast lane :D
If thats your thing O:-)
>>
>>14809937
Not really anything special, if you leave it stock it should be good for 200k miles (I know one guy at 160k in two years and his is running great still), it does have a little torque steer still.

I don't put snow tires on it but I know people who ran blizzaks all winter and raved about how it handled.

Interior is like 4 cubic feet smaller than the Focus, mostly shrinks in the hatch and rear seat.

I personally liked Yeezus, was disappoint by Life of Pablo.

SYNC3 works well for me with Bluetooth, but I have a flash drive with most of my library compressed to mp3s plugged into the USB port full time that I use instead.
>>
>>14809991
No autobahn m8, I just want something quick and fun but that's not tiring to drive, IE loud at highway speeds or a pain in traffic. Ease of overtake is also a massive bonus on normal roads though.

By comparison I had to deal with a 1.8 lancer diesel for 6 years, and that shit is loud as fuck once you get over the 120kph treshhold (mostly wind noise), extremely tiring for long drives imho
>>
>>14809622
I'd go with the FiST if it's going to be your only DD.

But the FiST might be a little small, check one out, fold down the seats and see how much space you have

I can barely fit my bmx bike in the car with the seats folded down

So consider the FoST or some other car if you need more space
>>
>>14810004
on 100kph it is at 2100rpm. The engine is basically muted by the sound proving. When you overtake in 3rd/4th it goes BRRRROOOOOWWWWWM and swooshed past. Then 6th and back to cruising.
The seats are also a-fucking.mazing. drove 500km in one go, nothing sore or anything. And they hug you in corners extremely well.
>>
I just bought a '16 FiST for DD. I tried the FoST and it was too big and understeer was much more apparent than in the fiesta.

The fiesta was just much more fun to drive, and I got a pretty good deal @$21k with recaros before tax
>>
>>14809629
Maybe if you don't know how to drive.

Be honest, have you driven both cars?
>>
>>14810016

>>
>>14810022
Understeer, really? Well, yeah, I had that at the very first tries tossing it around a corner, now it swings impressively. It may be an unusual setup, but one you get used to it, it follows you with great accuracy and predictability.
>>
>>14810068
not saying it was a lot of understeer, but it was more compared to the fiesta I had just driven

Actually even more aftermarket for the FiST/FoST including factory offered packages that will not void your warranty.

>>14809655
It will be easier to find a used GT86, people that bought the FiST are holding on to them.

>>14810029
I don't know about the guy you were talking to, but I've driven both extensively. I did three extended test drives in each because I was in the same position OP is and I couldn't make up my mind. My best friend actually ended up with a new GT86 about a month before I bought my FiST and I've now had track days in both as well. The FiST handles better and is way more responsive. The GT86 has lots of "lose the tail" fun factor though.

OP you probably won't go wrong with either choice, but you definitely need to get behind the wheel of each for an extended test drive. Keep in mind the GT86 target market is entry level young male drivers who want something sporty for cheap. Anything used is going to have been hooned much harder than a FiST.

>>
OP, it sounds like the fiesta would be the better car for you. Both are great starting points though.

>>14810448
There is no way the aftermarket support for the fiesta is bigger than the 86. It might be big, but the 86 has a massive following already.

I'd also disagree that the fiesta is more responsive, but that is more subjective than anything else.

>>14810496
The same can be said of the 86.
>>
>>14810563
You have to remember that the aftermarket here in the US supports the mustang, focus, fiesta, and f150 with a surprisingly large amount of interchangeable parts. The accepted aftermarket Non-warranty-voiding list for the Fiesta ST is absolutely massive. The same cannot be said for the GT86. While it is large, Fords list is larger and caters to more vehicles, if thou look it up and think the FiST list is large, go check out the FoST.
>>
>>14810563
We are talking about aftermarket that doesn't kill your warranty otherwise you are correct

How could the Fiesta not be more responsive?

Not trying to be combative, but stock the Fiesta sits at 197hp/202tq.

>pic related is a stock BRZ dyno
>>
>>14810590
With the gt86 you have both STi and TRD parts to choose from, neither or which will void the warranty.

Hell, you can even buy CARB legal turbo and supercharger kits now. The Edlebrock comes with its own 3 year drivetrain warranty.

Not to mention countless of aftermarket companies.

Like I said, I'm sure the support for the fiesta is big, but it doesn't match the 86.
>>
>>14810603
When I saw the word "responsive" I was thinking of things like steering feel and throttle response. The fiesta has minimal turbo lag, but it cant compare to a NA 86 when it comes to throttle response.

This guy lol. There are literally no TSBs for any mechanical portion of the Fiesta ST.

If you google anything about it, you will find threads titled "clutch problem?" or "transmission problem?" all posted by people confused as to why their car is acting up after they've dumped the clutch over and over from WOT first lol.

I'm a BRZ owner and lover myself, but I enjoy hot hatches as well. Out of the BRZ and Fiesta ST, I cannot find TSBs for any major mechanical components.

Can confirm the torque dip is the most maddening part of my BRZ. When I first bought it I was dead set on keeping it completely stock. Now I'm not so sure, but I also don't want to destroy the resale value. I'm actually considering selling it, but at this point I'm not sure what I would get instead. I was looking at a used Audi s5, but still on the fence. I've never driven the fiesta or focus performance models, but I hear a lot of good things about them. One of my coworkers bought a 2016 fiesta st and I would like to bother the guy for a ride but I don't know him that well

I would never buy either, but the FRS is what I'd choose if forced. I wouldn't keep it stock so whatever the fiesta has vs the FRS or the other way around is a non-issue. I'd turbo it and put wide wheels, sticky tires and coilovers on it.

Why not the Fiesta?

I don't like hatchbacks, don't like how FWD drives (muh skids basically), and I really don't like how it looks.
