/o/ff-roaders, I have a fairly simple question.
Could I replace 4x4 with a solid winch and good tires?
Where I live, unmolested 4x4s are almost double that of 2WD. I'd mostly be going up into the mountains.
Thanks br/o/thers, I tried google, but I never really got a straight forward answer
It depends on how patient you're willing to be getting your car unstuck vs how patient you're willing to be to save up for the right car for your intentions.

What this guy said. Alternatively, maybe look for something that can be converted to 4wd with some ease.
2wd will work alright if you got good tires and a locker or limited slip.

I'd like to, but I'm headed to college soon and don't have a lot of time to adjust my budget. I have a truck, but it has worn rings. So I have to get a new one. I can get a relatively nice one to get me to and from school on breaks and weekends and such, or a shitty 4x4 that might get me to and fro. I was just curious.

Shut up and buy a civic. You won't have time for offroading.
short answer: no

I just like to get to a good camping spot, friend, and Id rather not look like a complete fag doing it.
Honda cucks are the worst. "Muhh why do you care what others think you don't need more than 2L what is torque" I'll have time, friend.

Get a locking differential. You will thank me.

good thing most 4x4s come stock with a center diff lock and an R/D lock or traction control. Having 4lo really got me out of a lot shit. Whats your price range? What 4x4s are available in your region?

I was talking to OP who already has a 2WD truck, you boner biter.

with a come along you can go where no 4x4 can ever go even in a 2wd car

One thing you could do is get an E-locker for your rear differential. It's not the end-all, and it's no substitute for 4x4, but it's really helpful for casual off-roading

T armchair offroader
Just buy a solid clean old 4x4. A less desirable model will be cheaper. S10, gasser dodge half ton etc.
