What in the fuck am I supposed to do about replacing these damn things?
They dont peel off like a sticker or anything, and they dont pop out like a trim piece.

They look like this on both sides, and I have no idea how to go about replacing them.
Locally I'm fucked. No shops around here will touch a German car.

Do you mean your stone guard/protector? Simple fix but requires some finesse. I'd find your local body shop.

Those are just scratch/scuff pads. Dealerships offer those as an accessory (like all weather floor mats) when they sold the car new. It's a little protective film they put over areas that are likely to get dinged or scratched up.

Over time, they start to look like ass as they oxidize. Just get a decent body/detail shop to get them off for you, it isn't exotic work

>>14791325
If you want to do it yourself I could explain it to you.
>>
>>14791325
>>14791338
Ok, I had no idea what they even were.

>>14791342
If you don't mind. I'm always up to try something.
>>
Just tape it off and spray it with plasti-dip. Problem solved.
>>
>>14791351
Not him but heat it up with a heat gun and try to scrape it off.
>>
WD40 and try to slowly peel it off?
>>
>>14791306
use a hair dryer and a pieve of dental floss and slowly saw away at it being careful to pull away from the cars paint so as not to damage it
>>
>>14791408
>>14791494
Sure this won't damage the paint?
>>
>>14791525
If I was doing it? Yes. If you are doing it? we'll find out :^)

I used a razor blade. It did dig into the paint a tiny bit. But this was a Ranger with 190k miles. We'll be the last owner and it doesn't rust where I live. If you're more careful and using heat it'll be less dangerous. A plastic scraper might be better.
>>
>>14791880
I'm hoping it doesn't come off in tiny bits. Fuck that.
>>
>>14791904
It will.

Use gentle heat and floss, that's the safest way.
>>
yea ive done that just don't go too hard on the heat and you'll be fine, i just peeled it off with my fingers though.
>>
>>14791525
It shouldn't as long as your hand is steady. Some 3m adhesive remover works well when used with a hair dryer/heat gun. After it's off just polish off the remaining sticky goo with some more 3m stuff/soapy water/denatured alcohol.

Sorry OP I got wrapped up I got wrapped up in shit yesterday. I'd advise using some lacquer thinner and cleaning it off, or applying heat and peeling it. It will come off in pieces since its cracked. DO NOT USE AN ERASER WHEEL You'll melt it and ruin your rubber disc.

After its off you'll need to buy a new one, make sure it's the same shape and size. Yours looks like it angles into the door jamb. Be careful not to put any fucking fingerprints or creases onto the new stone guard. Get a spray bottle and mix about an inch of alcohol in a 1 qt bottle (wish I could give you ml measurement), 1 drop of baby shampoo, and fill the rest with water.

Make sure you clean up the dog leg where the guard was and spray the mix over the area the guard goes. Also spray the backside of the guard, don't be afraid to soak it. Carefully line up your top edge and make sure you keep some overlap to angle it into the jamb. Using a squeegee, push your fluid out from the center outwards and put some force into it. Air bubbles trapped towards the edge are easier to work out so try not to let any be towards the center. The hard part is rolling the edge into the jamb. You'll have to keep working it to get it to shape right and stay down.

It takes about a month for smaller air bubbles to work themselves out, but that's about it. I'd honestly recommend you take it to a body or tint/custom shop because they are quite easy to fuck up.

Best of luck
