Aside from the Corvette, what are some pre-2000's American cars which had good handling? Was pigfatlolcantturn always just a meme or have American cars only caught up recently?
>>14784011
late model fieros probably
In the 90s we were producing FWD cars with V8s
So the short answer is there are no good handling cars from America in the 90s
>>14784025
1988 Fiero's had lotus suspension, right?
they have only caught up recently
the c4 corvette was literally the first american car that cared about turning at all
3rd-gen Camaros and Firebirds handle pretty good and Neons dominated SCCA autocross for a long time.
Allegedly the Dodge Daytona (the FWD sports coupe from the late '80s) was also an excellent performer.
>>14784011
it's not a meme /o/ is always right
How 'bout the Dodge Omni GLH?
IROC-Z?
AMC AMX too probably.
>>14784026
>Dodge Neon
>Saturn SL
>Ford Escort/Focus
u wot
I take it none of you ever foxbody before
>>14784026
Corvettes, Z/28s pretty decent, pretty much all of chrysler's shelby vehicles, dodge neon acr, svo handled pretty well also.
trans am ws6
>>14784074
yeah they still can't turn for shit
Ford GT
BUUUUUUURN
>>14784088
British
>>14784091
It's American, so is the Shelby Cobra.
>Thank you based Britannia for your aluminum can beat together with sledgehammers
>>14784101
On the note of the Cobra
The Daytona is indisputably American and turns even better.
>>14784109
God damn that looks erotic
>>14784109
Looks like the majestic love-child of a Jaguar mating with a Muscle-car.
>>14784055
2nd and 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds were the BR-Zs and FR-Ss of the day... sporty looking but not very powerful (90hp Iron Duke or 143hp 5.0L V8 in their worst years).
In the '90s, they became very cheap, most got bought up by 16 year olds and wrapped around trees. How do you wrap a 90hp Iron Duke around a tree?
>>1478408
Im not talking about the little shitty n/a 4 cylinder automatic you owned.
WS6 Firebird
later Fieros
Z28
Neon
AMX
W30 Cutlass/Hurst Olds
Ford Probe even tho its a Mazda
none of them are good handling in modern times
>>14784502
no Foxbody can handle when stock
>>14784074
M8, no, just no.
desu senpai, 1960's ford falcons. doesnt take much modification. modern tires are probably one of the biggest upgrades lol
Why do people always say Z28s can turn? I've been told that for the catfish gen, 4th gen, the Z28 was the base model while the SS was the sportier model with the ram air hood and shit
I only ask because people say Z28 specifically but don't say catfish/Camaro in general or even SS
>>14784925
The Z28 has always been higher on the trim scale than the SS
Third and fourth gen GM F-body cars (Camaro and Firebird twins). F-bodies in general, really, but turds and catfishes are what you'll find for cheap.
>>14784011
Z24 Cavaliers were good.
OG Vipers actually handle great, they just have about 100 hp too much for chassis.
1LE Camaros, SLP Firebirds, Neons, Panoz, those early 90s Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais 442s and Acheiva SCXs were actually fantastic.
Ford had some stuff too, but it doesn't stick in my head like those.

>Ford had some stuff too, but it doesn't stick in my head like those.
Taurus SHO?
>>14784070
That car is forever the dyke mobile after trailer park boys used it as such
>>14784925
It's not that it can't turn. It can corner pretty damn fast, that's what happens when you have wide sticky rubber.
It just has terrible steering feel and feels bigger and more ponderous than it actually is. It doesn't give you confidence to push the car on the street like you'd get out of a shitbox like a BRZ or Miata.
On that note the Mustang Cobra was relatively good.
Classic 1970s Muscle Cars, I'd say the Camaro Z/28 and Mustang Boss 302. Those were pretty damn good for their time and compared to European sports cars of their time
>>14785123
Lol that's why the 98 + ss models had more hp. They were the better option
>>14784011
That poor Mustang... ;_;
>>14784049
you are correct. Great car right there
ford falcons; in 63 they competed in monty carlo rally races and won
auburn speedster
Taurus.
mustang boss'
>>14784075
Turd Gens can actually handle when modded
>>14784101
AC, not Shelby. British, not American.
>>14785477
>Classic 1970s Muscle Cars, I'd say the Camaro Z/28 and Mustang Boss 302. Those were pretty damn good for their time and compared to European sports cars of their time
Yeah this. All the SCCA homologation specials had good handling by necessity.
10th gen Thunderbird
2nd gen Corvair
Any Viper
>>14784011
Friend had a thing for american cars so he had 90's corvette, camaro, mustang, STS and few other cars and he described them all as snappy and unpredictable.
He did some drifting with Camaro on narrower than standard "eco" tires and car behaved nicely so maybe it's just that there's too much grip in stock form.
>>14784011
The neon ACR. Quicker steering ratio, more power than a civic, adjustable struts from the factory.
I owned one, it was a great car. Neons are hugely underrated, especially on /o/.
>>14785123
No the 4th gens camaro's base model was the Z28
Notice theres no "/" so its not Z/28
The SS was up a trim level and featured more performance
